SWATCHING 40 YEAR OLD WATERCOLORS: Swatching and paint with me

Hello! In this video I swatch, demo, and review an old Rowney watercolor palette from the early 1980s. This watercolor palette I review is over 40 year old. With these vintage art supplies, I swatch each color and also take you through a speed paint to demonstrate the watercolors and show you how they work! This was an old palette that my mother bought in either the late 70s or early 80s. It has been sitting in my basement for years untouched until I decided to start painting again in fall of 2020. Follow along to see how such an old palette is still holding up!
This palette is most closely related to the Daler-Rowney Aquafine Box set of 24 colors.

wow! The colors still look so opaque 😍

I was using the cadmium yellow during the eye study, which is one of the more opaque colors. It's a very unique color!

Omg those colors are beautiful! I just bought a set of vintage grumbacher finest watercolors online from the mid 70s and I love them so much. Very happy for you that you are able to have the experience of creating with old world paints :) cheers

Vintage student art supplies are soooo much better quality than their modern equivalents. When I finally exhausted the stuff I inherited (found in a cupboard) from the 50s and 60s and replaced them with new my colour work took a nosedive. 😢

I bought two Rowney travel palettes at an auction last year. Your paints seem better quality, but perhaps with mine it is an age issue.
