Is there such thing as a perfect violin? Even the master del Gesu instrument has a wolf tone at @5:30 :(

I imagine the reason some violins are so revered not just because of the maker but that lack of perfection, each has their own personality and tone etc..

this violin is hardly original though. paganini would often move the bridge up an down without concern, this left the top deeply grooved in by the feet of the bridge.

@@treatb09 why did He displace the Bridge ?? Longer and Shorter Strings , IS IT for playing in different Keys or persolal Taste or for different String thickness ...
      Can you Tell ??

Shlomo Mintz just attacks a most beautiful instrument. Why does he pull out such a horrible scratchy rough sound, the very first time he touches it with the bow?? Does he have no sensitivity for sound? Is it really the way to find the sound? Scratch scratch hit bang bang!

Although he was testing the A wolf note on the G string at the beginning, I agree. As he gets older, I've noticed that he applies more and more weight to the string, choking the sound. I really admire him, and I realize it's subjective, but I just wish he'd make a more beautiful sound.

If you are a professional...the first thing to try on a violin is to see how it performs in 5th+ position on the G string...there is where wolf notes are possible to exist and also if that sounds scratchy or muffled it is mostly because of out of place sound post or loose base bar or loose tail piece

I understand. The comments about are interessant too.
Well, this is a little his style of play, muscular, but he is a great player.
For me, i was more surprise about he hold the violin between his legs while changing the strings...

Vengerov and other violinists have said that great violins (Strads, Guarneris, etc.) are actually harder to play than “normal” violins
