Hi, I know this video is old but I have a old high end amplifier(audison vrx) and last time I had it installed was 2012 and one channel stopped working. I opened it up and didn't see anything burnt or "off" looking. I've read about a spray called deoxit, can this be sprayed on anything inside the amp? Or into connection points? Wondering if that could help? Otherwise maybe try your set up to figure it out? Any ideas?
To properly test an amp one has to test the output voltage and current. Use both to workout if its has the correct impedance and wattage. Didn't see this to be fair, which should of been one of the first things.
I was hoping this video would show how to get those numbers through bench test. Not just if the amp is in working condition. Would you be able to guide me on how to get wattage with a multimeter?
Hey bud thanks for all you videos helped me alot. I have a question on buzzing in my speakers im running a 4 channel amp and checked everything from grounds to power and made sure my speakers were not touching metal. So the buzzing is not engine in fact it buzzes with the car not running i ever ran other rca just in case and still buzzes then i pulled all rcas and still buzzed. What am i doing wrong? Please help! Thank you!
does it matter how many amps the bench power supply to test the amp ? amplifer is like 40 Amps and thinking 20 amp bench supply will work otherwise the 40 amps is worth alot
I am getting blown fuses every time. I tested all my connections and all just over 12 volts. Have a good ground and remote. Could it be the Amp? It’s pretty old.
Are you still in business for repairs? I’ve got a PPI A404 4 channel Amplifier. It has blown fuse. I’ve opened as I’m not worried about warranty since it’s from the early 90s. I notice nothing burnt or disconnected. Please advise
Hey les I have a pair of Memphis pr components the recommended power is 70 watts RMS I have a hifonics amp that puts out 75 watts RMS in other words would I blow my door speakers if they're getting those extra 5 watt RMS? I've never connected my amp to them bc I'm scared of blowing them being as they cost me 140 per set thanks in advance
My advice is this, adjust the max gain output on your amp to match the speakers just before they start to sound distorted, the speaker will tell you when it's had enough. Don't go my numbers, go by what you hear..
Hi man! I have problem. Amp has only 1 light and its red. and its not turning on. (light) I tested + it recives 12.8v(amp) I tested ground it has . Remote took from + or power. RCA cabels are good(working). Any ideas ?
Dear I have pioneer AVH-295BT ,JEC1200w amplifier 5cha.. and Alpine subwoofer 1500w so I can connect power supply ( Silver stone)700w 12V 54A please help me
Should the amplifier be slammed hard on the table to bench test it!? I literally caught a technician slamming a tube amplifier onto the tabletop where it was just repaired on by him with new parts soldered in place and everything and he gave it a good slam! Have you ever heard of anything like this? It was a lunch box guitar amplifier... 15W... Plays like a dream and has no issues... OOPS! YES, it was/is mine...
So for me to test my amp in my car just plug my phone in with that jack play the mousin through my phone only not through the head unit and the subs will hit if the amp is good ?
Any way to test inputs on a factory amp? 07 cts with Bose system.. I have the gmos-10 interface and the warning chimes work but no audio from any of the sources FM , CD Aux etc.. I tested outputs from amp to speakers with tone generator and all checks out.. only thing I can think of is either my interface is defected, or the amp inputs are shot.. any suggestions?
I have a dumb question - I have an amp and my positive and negative for speaker connection erased how do I know which is positive output it negative for speaker
Hello, I ahve a set in my car. Whenever I turn it on no sound comes out and the Amp heats up. But heats up a lot. After that I stop it. My lights work ok. Red and then Green normally. Please help.
Lessco Electronics Hello, I did some searching in my amp and I discovered that what burns is 2 tranzistors named c 4467 and A 1694 which are next to each other. I have no idea... :(
This was pitiful. You never power up an amp that you know nothing about until you take the cover off and do a quick visual of the parts and probe some of the internals with your multimeter before you power up with no problems. By powering it up like that , you could have done a lot of damage to it. Never trust a second hand amp until you inspect it first.
Im no lowbrow but seriously if an amp is gonna explode from meeting at 12 and then ground then you should be going and getting your money back not attempting a circuitboard repair. most of us ,even the seasoned, are not electrical engineers. I have tested 15 used amps in my short lifetime in this method and every single one has turned on
@@rmblwgn What is this guy even talking about?! "Never power on a used TV unless you take it apart and probe the internals!" Are people booby trapping Amps?? WTF It's car audio, not rocket appliances.
"On all iPhones and most Android phones they all have this 3.5mm jack..." oh, simpler times in 2013.
Legend has it he still has this iPhone in 2019
You need an audio jack adapter for iPhone
@@nightfury20101 Yep. We know
TheRealTruman 😭
right!?
right on brother you made it look so easy. i was useing a multi tester but it takes to damb long after seeing your video to hell with the multi tester
Is it risky to buy an amp that turns on but there's no audio coming on?
Multimeter never used in this video
You need to get fancy

check the impedance on your grounds, if all else fails there's always ground loop isolators...
Do you need to run a fuse on the power cable if its only going to be tested? Its a jl hd 900/5 no on board fuses, going to be tested indoors
I've got everything hooked and have volume but it is very low. volume on phone is maxed. setting seem to be maxed. any suggestions?
Would a old car charger work if it's only rated at 2 amp output

I cant get my subs working again. One day they stopped working. I'm getting 12volts at the amp, then with the key ON I'm getting about 10.7V..werid?
wow! awesome man! I just struggling how to test my car amp....

Look for cracked power connectors they look like tubes if there cracked there not keeping power and if it’s blown replace them copper feeders

Can you Link power subly what you use
are you using AC 12volts charger that you connect to your ampflier?
Yes, I use DC power supply

what if my speaker output is not pushing out sound how could I check n repair
you most likely need to test the power ic chips inside the amplifier
I did the video is was fine I put it back in car no speaker s or RCA's hooked up and still no green light
Very good vídeo, and simple. Thanks
12g power ground comon
At least some 4g lol

I'ma go test my amp right now. Good info thanks!

Probably your head unit right
I have a dumb question - I have an amp and my positive and negative for speaker connection erased how do I know which is positive output it negative for speaker
do a continuity check from the amp chassis and either wire, one will buzz out, the ground..
But does this fully test the amp under heavier load ? I can see it's amplifying and no noticable noise. But is it amplifying to spec ?
Obviously not

I'd have that amp tested by a professional. There are a lot of components in an amplifier that can go wrong.

I was doing a simple bench test here, Bot a full on circuit board operation!
