"The rear wing wasn’t just for show - it reduced lift at the back of the car by 30 per cent, and the sculpted aero lip under the front bumper also helped keep the car stable at speed."

Adding a rear wing to a FWD car is simply going to increase rear downforce, which may be exactly what the driver requires.

As an automotive engineer the issue which he is correctly discibing is aero imbalance. Having a just a rear wing shifts the load of the car more rearwards. In same cases, and I have experienced this in some people cars, massive wings will cause the car to squat at the rear in high speeds. This then makes the front end go lighter and you can feel the steering get light and in some cases you get vibration through the steering rack as the road surface starts bumping the wheels of the ground microscopically. This phenomenon isn’t just at super high speeds I’ve experienced this doing 80 mph on a motorway. Your correct that any wing will as downforce but you need to add front splitters to help balance. The integra that you mentioned has a big front lip and quite a shaped front bonnet which helps keep downforce on the car.
Huge rear wings do look cool but just make sure they are balanced. One for safely and two because you just look like an idiot if you don’t haha

Down force isn’t just to get power down it’s also to provide the car with stability in high speed corners allowing more force into the ground securing the tyres place on the road if you knew something about this you’d also realise that a lot of fwd racing cars such as the cupra Leon competición also has a large wing.
You could argue that in certain situations a fwd requires more down force in the rear, compared to rwd and 4wd due to the lack of weight in the rear of the car, down force isn’t just for high hp rear driven cars it’s for cars that require the added stability due to the use or error in engineering, like the f56 jcw for example all the weight is up front and so is the majority of the braking force, this combination lead to a nasty lift in the rear under heavy braking now a easy solution would be to add more weight but seen as performance is all to do with power to weight ratio and weight distribution, as well as many other factors, this would in fact decrease performance and agility of the vehicle. The correct solution is to add down force providing the rear end of the vehicle with additional down forcing increasing the stability of the vehicle in such situations without added any unnecessary weight that you’d have to lug around with you.

Eh? How'd you work that out?
More weight on the back axle of a car simply adds more weight/grip to the rear.
It can't have an effect on the front unless there's a fulcrum point somewhere between the front and rear axle... which there isn't.
When you hitch up a poorly balanced trailer, OTOH, this becomes an issue.
When you have a front-heavy trailer attached, the weight is between the trailer axle and the car's rear axle.
That WILL allow the rear axle of the vehicle to act as a fulcrum and lift the front of the car.

Oh, I love it when people aren't smart enough to understand the difference between a wing and a spoiler.
Officer Owen needs to read more and ditch the smug, ignorant, comments.
A spoiler (the clue's in the name) is intended to "spoil" the air-flow around the rear of the vehicle.
There are many perfectly valid reasons why this might be desirable, or even essential.
It might be there for something as mundane as to reduce the differential pressure between the inside and outside of a car (thus getting rid of that irritating "thrumming" some cars make when the windows are open) or it might be there to prevent the car developing a low pressure area at the rear, thus preventing the car from developing unpredictable levels of rear grip.
Obviously, some ARE purely cosmetic, as well, but it'd be dumb to assume that's always the case.
Also, since I'm here, what's wrong with fitting a WING to a FWD car?
Just because the power is delivered via the front wheels, that doesn't mean it won't be beneficial to have more downforce at the rear.
Worst case scenario is that you end up with a car that has more rear grip than front, meaning it'll understeer instead of oversteering, which I would have thought a cop would approve of since it's safer.
