Turned 51 this year, these songs are the soundtrack of my youth- was at the perfect age to experience this along with MTV, all these videos played constantly. I wish we could go back to those times. Good memories for me! Really glad to have grown up an 80s kid/teen!
Yes!! Several of my all-time favorites came out that year. Karate Kid, Ghostbusters, the original Terminator, and Footloose (the first movie I remember seeing in the theater) are just the first four that I think of.
Corey Hart, my High School won the School Spirit Contest, from 93Q in Houston, Tx. Corey Hart did a personal concert for just our school. We collected the most bottle caps the entire school, LaPorte High School went to the concert, we had some 1800 students and we were transported by bus to Houston probably 50 or 60 buses, this was 1987 I believe, awesome times!
Very Crazy Ride You Just Took Me On 1984 was My Last Summer in Brooklyn NY Before My Parents passed Life Changed ... LOTS TO BE THANKFUL FOR TODAY .. THANKS BROTHER
I agree with you that the 80’s was a fantastic decade for music. But there was one year that stood out to me besides the 80’s -> 1991! We had the beginning of Grunge with Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Soundgarden. We had the big return of Michael Jackson. We had the last album of Queen before Freddie’s passing. We had the New Jack Swing, the Dance music, new artists debuting such as Mariah Carey, Seal. Artists and bands at the peak of their career (REM with losing my religion, Red Hot Chili Peppers with Under the Bridge).
Here’s my list of songs turning 40 Depeche mode- people are people Thompson twins- sister of mercy Frankie goes to Hollywood- two tribes The human league- life on your own Laura Brannigan- self control ABC- be near me Spandau ballet- I’ll fly for you Howard jones- hide and seek Simple minds- speed your love Fiction factory- feels like heaven Omd- locomotion Ultravox- dancing with tears in my eyes Pointer sisters- automatic Gary human- berserker Bronski beat- small town boy David Sylvian- red guitar Duran Duran- the reflex Reflex- politics of dancing Nik Kershaw- wouldn’t it be good Bananarama- Robert de Niros waiting Tears for fears- mothers talk Heaven 17- this is mine Phil Oakey and Giorgio maroder- together in electric dreams Foreigner- I want to know what love is Wham- last Christmas Echo and the bunnymem- the killing moon Paul young- I’m gonna tear your playhouse down Talk talk- dumb dumb girl Grandmaster flash- white lines John Waite- missing you Billy ocean- carribean queen Rockwell- somebody’s watching me
Great List of songs great list and yes the 1980"s was the greatest decade ever wish I could get back there and stay there Forever dam I miss it such a better time !!!!!!
I turned 45 2 weeks ago. But yeah I remember most if not all of these 80s songs and I was a kid back then so go figure. But hearing it just makes me remember greater and simpler times.
The 80's were awesome and soo was the Music. I will be 47 later this year and 1984 was probably the year of Music during that decade. Thanks for the memories, great video 😊
This could be a Greatest Hit Record ad! 80's Life Presents! The Hits of 1984!!! And that's not all!! And I just realized I was only 16 years old!! Now I really am bummed! LOL!
I only just found your channel the other day from watching your bones brigade locations video. Fantastic work, amazing posts. Yep 80s was the best but 90s was my era. I may of met you once in 97 as I was in a band called Symposium and we played the Whiskey. Anyway great stuff, big love Rossy xx
and that's just American Top 40 stuff, I listened to a lot of non mainstream radio stations in the 80s and loved a lot of new wave and punk songs from Europe, songs from bands that they almost never played in mainstream Top 40 stations here in the US - Echo and the Bunnymen, the Smiths, New Order, Ultravox, The Cult - so much great music
You didn't mention that you just saw Dave Wakling of General Public/the Beat open for Adam Ant and he sang "Tenderness". Talk Talk "it's my life" is always on a playlist of mine. I saw them June 28th 1984 open for Berlin. If you like 99 Luftballoons check out that album. There are so many cool songs. Check out "just a dream."
A real story.... Dee Snider lived in my building on MDR and left me a voice mail to walk he's (dog Chase.). When I was a kid living in Puerto Rico, I could have never imagine something like this could even happen. Dee Snider leaving me a voice mail to walk he's dog??? 😶. I guess in life you never know.
Yes! I agree. The mid to late 80's but the entire decade overall was the best decade ever. Admittedly I am biased? LOL. I must say? Talk, talk? No doubt did it Justice.
"I Want To Break Free" should have been a lot bigger hit in the United States but since the video showed the band in drag MTV didn't think American audiences could handle it so they didn't air the video 😮
Kurt, you need to make an Ultimate 80s Spotify Playlist for people to add to their libraries. Not a Top 100, not a Top 1,000, but the ultimate playlist.
Nothing will come close to the 80s for music TV or movies it was truly a fantastic decade to be a kid growing up.
Absolutely bro..!!!

I agree, and this gives away my age but I was class of 89.
HANDS DOWN, the BEST year for music in the 1980's was 1983. That was the year that BOTH "Thriller" & "Synchronicity" were released.
1984 was also one of the best years for movies.
Yes!! Several of my all-time favorites came out that year. Karate Kid, Ghostbusters, the original Terminator, and Footloose (the first movie I remember seeing in the theater) are just the first four that I think of.
I turn 47 tomorrow. Man how time flies. I still firmly believe the 1980s were the best!

The 80’s was a juggernaut for music. Not just in pop but punk, metal and rap. What a time to be alive and young! Great video!

I cant believe it
I turned 45 2 weeks ago. But yeah I remember most if not all of these 80s songs and I was a kid back then so go figure. But hearing it just makes me remember greater and simpler times.
It's because of the fact that all of the music from the 80's is memorable whereas today's music will be forgotten within months.
Thriller is 42 years old. It came out in 1982.
You're 100% right! Thriller was released as a single in 1984. My bad
All good. Love your show
The "Thriller" video also came out in late 1983, only buoying the album's popularity and leading to more cable companies getting MTV.
Music was kind of hard to hear
The 80's were awesome and soo was the Music. I will be 47 later this year and 1984 was probably the year of Music during that decade. Thanks for the memories, great video 😊

So sad your channel still doesn't have over 100,000 subscribers
If I Had To Pick The Best Year For 80’s Music, I Would Go With 1985. Just My Opinion.
The Never Ending Story by Limahl and Tina Turner What's Love got to do with it turns 40. A part two would be great. Thanks for sharing.
In Australia we have great Aussie music in the 80s and we could go to the pub or club to see them nearly every night.
Yes! I agree. The mid to late 80's but the entire decade overall was the best decade ever. Admittedly I am biased? LOL. I must say? Talk, talk? No doubt did it Justice.
Spinal Tap's Big Bottom, Sex Farm Woman and Stonehenge are turning 40.
I’ve heard Rock Me Amadeus played in the original German on the radio but not sure if it’s considered a “hit”
Dude, who's make the package store run? We need some Bartles and Jaymes, and a pack of Jakarta's. ;)
How is Safety Dance not included? Tiffany or Debbie Gibson.
The Eurythmics Sweet Dreams (Are Made of This)
"I Want To Break Free" should have been a lot bigger hit in the United States but since the video showed the band in drag MTV didn't think American audiences could handle it so they didn't air the video 😮
Follow the Professor of Rock. He clearly knows exactly how long the clip can be to not get a strike or demonetized.
I respect your opinion, but for me, I grew up in the 70s, so that's the best. But everyone will have their own opinion
Kurt, you need to make an Ultimate 80s Spotify Playlist for people to add to their libraries. Not a Top 100, not a Top 1,000, but the ultimate playlist.
It's sad to know that July 29th of this year will be 40 years since I lost my mom!! 😔
Kurt, I love all your videos but I have to admit this one in particular made me sad from the overwhelming nostalgia.
Yep. 95% of those songs are still on my USB stick on my car stereo.
Can you create a Spotify playlist?
Great video.
Kurt 👋🖖👀 you're a great DJ. Another song that my son Max likes is Take On Me....
"I got my, PENCIL!"
I love Head Over Heals too but it was considered a disappointment and it was their last album, no?
I was also playing "I can name that tune in 3 notes" thrill this whole video!
Princes output at that time was superhuman.
I liked 1988-1989 and 1990 best songs for me
