I’m so happy they picked John Burns to review this bike. He’s my favourite motorcycle journalist. I really like his take on motorcycling and the way he approaches every bike in an open and honest way. I’m half his age but relate to his style the most. Also, I really like the fuel injected 701 engine paired to the 6 speed. Big smiles all day
I test rode and was very impressed. Smooth but ready to wheelie if not careful. Tyres grip well and quickshifter/blipper great at higher revs. Dash digits are small but suspension and brakes are the better investment.
Some of the other reviewers appear to at least minimally script their remarks. Burns always gives us a sort of improvised stream-of-John Burns-consciousness report. At least it isn't boring.
Both very much style exercises - take an existing bike, give it an image and play around with the looks. Not many mechanical mods compared to the original. And as Burns said, cost about the same in the US at least. This Svartpilen, in producing an "urban hip" tool, actually looks practical, and more useful than the original Duke. And better than last years Vitpilen 701 despite little more than bars being swapped.
All these comments about the bike being over priced....Its not cheap, but dirt bikes are over 10 grand these days....The new honda crf 450l is almost 11 grand.... This thing looks incredible ...has the strongest single engine in production....it has all high end components....and has some exclusivity going on.... I want one!!
Full Wp suspension which is usually aftermarket and a trellis frame, that’s why it’s so expensive lol people love to bitch and I’m getting one because I love singles and twin cylinders
@@NudaMan Brembo brakes with steel braided lines, hydraulic clutch, spoke wheels on 2020, full adjustable WP suspension. Lots of premium parts. I agree the initial MSRP was off by a couple k but I got mine last summer for $8k out the door. Fun, flickable, makes a great commuter.
Who edits your videos? The voice over over and the wind is unacceptable. Not to mention this guy is comparing this to the Katana?! I know you just reviewed the thing, but how about you compare it to other bikes in its class
This bike has nothing to do with Katanas and Volvos. It a bike from our dystopian future - A true hooligan bike for those daring to stop for Starbucks after robbing the bank or surfers finding waves beyond the city potholes, and forest streams.
Man , I love Portugal , especially Lisbon. Wanna go there sometime. I like this bike too , I prefer it though in with the colors and the wheels of the Vitpilen. Thanks for the vid, I am not complaining because it was really a moment of fun but the guy wheelin' it , erased all commentary sound!
I think this is a cool way to harken back to the old cafe racer days of single cylinder bikes. Just slap some clip-ons on it. 75bhp is MORE than enough to get you anywhere you want to go at 85mph all night long.
Crossplane transverse parallel twin with dual exhaust Or longitudinal V twin with dual exhaust. Either one should have hydraulic valves and be slightly under-stressed, but not crazily, just enough so they're delivering excellent power, torque, have a good powerband and are bulletproof. Shaft drive should be considered, or perhaps belt drive, too. Wish manufacturers would just make better all round universal looking bikes like they used to. Half or 3/4 faired UJMs with bulletproof, but well-performing medium displacement (400cc-750cc) motors, 6-speed gearboxes, and 4.5-gallon to 5.5-gallon tanks (including reserve) need to return with other modern upgrades like monoshocks, USD forks, and 17" wheels.
I’m in the market for a 690 variant (duke, SMC-r) and I would definitely consider one of these but I just can’t justify the premium in price over the KTMs
2024...you can swap out the instrument panel for a TFT with navigation, a French company...these are really cheap in France, best place to buy a low mileage used one in Europe,€4500 will get you one with a couple of thousand miles! Amazing design details, moving art!
Why can't Harley just build one? I don't get this constant market study to grab millennial only come up with cruiser after cruiser. Just start a small displacement class of bikes that's designed for hipsters.
So, what this guy basically did is a head-to-head with Suzuki Katana without bringing the other motorcycle to the show. Talk about a video on a budget! hahahahaha
thats crazy the dealership down the road has those brand new on the showroom floor for 3800 and 4200 dollars super cheap hell the new hondas are only 7 grand
John thanks for the review but I think I would rather have the Volvo. The looks of the number plate and gas tank are just too much...I probably would not riding it but I wouldn't want someone seeing me on it.
the big seller is the 701/690 enduro and supermoto. it makes sence to make some tweaks on it and sell a second bike out of that and aim for a niche market.
If I were to go for this bike - and I've test rode the Vitpilen, which was a whole load of fun - I'd get rid of that awful looking side panel under the seat. For me, it spoils the styling. Be interesting to put the Vitpilen handlebars on this. Booking a test ride soon. As a side note, here in the UK, the Vitpilen is priced at £6,999 - exactly the same as the Honda CB650R.
The bike looks great and checks a lot of the right boxes...except price. That purchase price is much too steep. As for the review itself, get some new blood in here, Motorcycle.com. This guy is terrible and, at times, is pretty condescending to large groups of people/riders/demographics. Plus, he's dull and self-focused in his reviews rather than considering the greater riding audience when he speaks or presents his opinions. In fact, new personalities are needed across the board.
Terrible review, the katana and the svartpilen are two different bikes two different engines and different power 🤦🏾♂️ this shit pissed me off, yes they are both naked bikes but that’s it. That’s literally it!

Those Vitpilen and Svartpilen bikes are growing on me.
I test rode and was very impressed. Smooth but ready to wheelie if not careful. Tyres grip well and quickshifter/blipper great at higher revs. Dash digits are small but suspension and brakes are the better investment.
SOUND! Dang, y'all do not watch the videos before you publish them? Work on the sound! LEVEL it out will you?
Yeah that was pretty jarring when the wind tunnel simulator kicked in
RIP Headphone users, 2:32
What's the obsession with comparing this to a katana?
he just reviewed the katana
Right? nearly every specification of this bike, he compared directly to the katana lol. Totally different bikes.
Some of the other reviewers appear to at least minimally script their remarks. Burns always gives us a sort of improvised stream-of-John Burns-consciousness report. At least it isn't boring.
@@nergispaul9022 "stream-of-John Burns-consciousness" XD that is the best way to describe his reviews ever.

It's not a dirtbike though?

Am I the only one that heard him say Husqvarna's fartpilen in the beginning?
I swear was about to say the same thing, and I was waiting for him to put a smirk on his face Lol
Pronounced Shart-Piling
Sorry 'bout your son been a hipster, but we always will love them no matter what.
Who edits your videos? The voice over over and the wind is unacceptable. Not to mention this guy is comparing this to the Katana?! I know you just reviewed the thing, but how about you compare it to other bikes in its class
@ 2:30 in the video...
I posted the exact same complaint. I miss the older Motorcyclist videos. This new group have no idea what they are doing.
He compared it to the 690 ktm for a minute straight, what are u on about.
Pity this thing isn't worth the giant price bump up from the duke.
Just gotta wait for dealerships to sell last year models for a more reasonble price.
Big price drop in Oz now, $10k AUD, very good value just dont know about residual.
They didn’t sell that well lol but they are around 9k now
$9k...yes, $12k, no thanks.
$10k AUD in Oz now, very good value..
Price has been lower to 9k now
Also- I thought John did a great review of the bike
So this is the new single cylinder Katana...
hahahaha
Nothing says I spent 25% more than I should have than a Husqvarna...

Good looking bike!
Im no where a hipster but this would bike would look super sweet with the plate delete kit
Looks better in the flesh after you ride it...has character.
Why does he keep comparing it to a Katana?

2:34, so many wind noises
Can you name them all?

The ol shartpilen
Why can't Harley just build one? I don't get this constant market study to grab millennial only come up with cruiser after cruiser. Just start a small displacement class of bikes that's designed for hipsters.
Nice bike, but hard to compare to Katana, different class....Like GS 1250 to smaller GS
“To compare it to a different bike that it’s not like anything it is”
When the ftr just happens to be the other option you’re looking at lol
On the 👃🏻

jeremie a I think you seen the 401’s, on cycletrader in my area they are 8-9k right now
Futuristic look
John thanks for the review but I think I would rather have the Volvo. The looks of the number plate and gas tank are just too much...I probably would not riding it but I wouldn't want someone seeing me on it.
Yea the bike looks “cool”, but $12k for a single cylinder and 75 horsepower? How are they still even in business?
the big seller is the 701/690 enduro and supermoto. it makes sence to make some tweaks on it and sell a second bike out of that and aim for a niche market.
Dom Von Hutch Swedes have nothing to do with it and haven’t for years. Husqvarna is Austrian now, and was italian before that.
Nice bike
How's a 700cc a 'little bike'?
350 lbs.
looks like a bike you dont need to add anything to it

I love the Svartpilen, unfortunately I would be like a bear on a bicycle on that bike... : (
Is the 1:1 model version available? : ) : ) : )

Buy the Honda CB650 instead! Cheaper, faster, better looks, and more reliable!!! Plus plenty of dealer support!
The FART-Peelin' 701?
The wheels are shit... Mod that shit asap. 😂😂👍👍👍
Light weight single
i want one !
Why keep mentioning a Katana, irrelevant. It’s like the cameraman reminds him and he forgets

rip headphone users
good luck with that design & price:))
That's one weird looking chainsaw #twosix4
You'd swear this is a review of the Suzuki Katana
mkay
Short video
Similar layout of a Ducati Scrambler...
Sonomann 33 both carry the famous trellis frame
Cool bike. Very over priced in my opinion
would rather have a 2004 sportster.
Probably the worst video review of a motorcycle ever.
wat
Fartpilen
Stop talking i want to hear the bike brahhhh
With those looks and that engine wouldn't give $10 for it.
The headlamp eww
It got only one brake disk. It pulls you to side when you brake. I dont like that :)
That is unnoticable in real life.
Ha, not even.
Wtf are you talking about, my ninja 250 has a single disc and it brakes fine in a line or corner 🤦🏾♂️
This isn't a review, it's a marketing piece.
this isn't a comment, it's an opinion
Terrible review, the katana and the svartpilen are two different bikes two different engines and different power 🤦🏾♂️ this shit pissed me off, yes they are both naked bikes but that’s it. That’s literally it!
Like the concept, but way too ugly.
This thing is going to age horribly. Shame KTM killed the 690 duke in the states
Small tank. 👎
Over priced
