Great video. How would it do on unsealed roads? Head says KTM 390 advent, heart says svartpilen, and for some reason they are heavily discounted here in Oz right now.
Thanks, glad you enjoyed it. It would be good on unsealed roads, the MT60's are OK off road. However, the suspension is pretty sporty, so probably not the best for really rough work. Thanks, Aaron KNOX

Actually, no, havent tried the 401 yet. Depends on the kind of style you like really, but sure there are plenty of good options. Think Yamaha tracer 700, Honda CB500x... Or plently of custom style options... Hope that helps? Aaron KNOX
Knox Armour thanks! One of the draws to the Husqvarna is it being lightweight and nimble but still packing some power with the duke motor. I doubt the 401 would be comfortable for someone if this one isn’t. Looking at Yamaha MT-07, CB650r or Ducati Scrambler. BMW r9t is nice but too bulky for where I live.
I think I'd personally prefer the Vitpilen, especially since it's a naked bike with clipons (which is one of the sexiest looks a bike can have, have a look at Speed Triples and MT's with clipon conversions). But then I can't say much, I've still got another few months until I can do my A2. The side panel behind the right pillion peg ruins the look a bit for me, if either both sides had it or neither sides had it, it'd look a lot better. By the way, with the Lake District, I'd love to take a trip over there, what roads would you recommend riding?
Thanks for the comment! In the Lakes there are loads of great roads depending on whether you want scenery or great riding. A favourite loop has to be Keswick-Ambleside-Kirkstone Pass-Ullswater-Matterdale-Keswick. Try that for a start and you wont be disappointed! Thanks, Aaron KNOX.
Hi, love your videos. Quick question: between the Svart 701 and the 790 Duke what do you think it's the more fun bike? And wich of those do you find the best all-rounder? Best regards from Portugal
Hi Joao, thanks for the feedback and great question and not an easy answer!!! No doubt, the 790 Duke is a faster engine... but, both are really fun bikes. I think some of it might come down to looks too, that is up to you though. But both bikes handle really well, have great engines, great brakes and components. The 790 has excellent electronics too, more adjustment on TC. If you want more speed though, the 790 is way to go. Hope that helps in some ways. Thanks, Aaron KNOX
If it’s any help, I have a Vitpilen 401. Great bike, been a pleasure but ride position, like 701, is pretty aggressive / forward so on longer rides it can be a bit uncomfortable. Sat on a Svartpilen 701 last week and position is more upright which would work better for longer rides. Great bikes all round.
The price I find is actually pretty spank on with some other options, its lacking torque but HP is very comparable to a triumph T120 which will weigh more, cost more, and doesnt have that adjsutable front suspension, or brembo brakes.
I'm fifty years old and getting a license to ride soon. Bucket list. Safety is my primary concern. Fun is next. The Svart 401 is leading the way for a first bike, but is the 701 too much as a first bike?
Hi Joshua, I think the 401 would be a great choice for you, still powerful, but not as snappy as the 701... The 701 has got a real kick to it, much faster than a comparative er6 for example. If safety and fun are your priorities, I would recommend the 401 and getting kitted out in Knox protection. Thanks, Aaron KNOX
I guess since it's a bigger bike, it should offer more. Yet I think the 401 look better than the 701. But that's just me. I'm on the market for a fun small bike, and I just happen to seem both on sale; the 401 going for $5k and the 701 for less than& 8k.
Hi Everyone, can anyone suggest to me if the 701 is considered good as a beginner bike? I ask, because I was thinking about buying the 401 Svartpilen as my beginner Bike, but how different can the 701 be from a Ducati 800 scrambler, Yamaha MT07, or a Kawasaki 650? Should I just go straight for the 701 Svartpilen, or get the 401 Svartpilen? Any help from anyone?
Thanks, yes I would consider the 701 a great first "big bike". Just have to be a bit careful with it as the engine has a lot of snap, probably faster than all the other examples you gave due to weight and power delivery. Thanks, Aaron KNOX
Does that engine still rattle when stationary at traffic lights, does it still have false naturals between 4th 5th, 5th 6th. I owned a 690 and never ever again
I have a 2017 701sm with the same engine. It is noisy, it sounds like my granddads farm tractor. However I have never had a missed or false shift. Not on a track day, not on a commute not even while doing hooligan 5h!+. Admittedly shifting is not like a Japanese or German bike, there’s no snick snick feel with each shift. It almost feels electric. If you want positive shifts, keep your toe off the shifter between shifts and it’ll be fine.
just bought one, but i feel like the only premium stuff is the mechanical stuff. esthetics are all feeling like cheap plastics. the mudguards, handles, tank, all the visual sensors and elektronics. under 3000rpm its horrible, i dont like the sound coming from some triumph triples. but it made me smile like a child when testriding. you need to be in the right gear or you get punished and i like that 😅, and the gears are short and way more usable instead of the 70+ mph first gear on a 675 cc triumph street triple f.e.
You should definitely ride this back to back with the sv650, (you might prefer the 650 cafe racer version)if you like fun mid capacity bikes. I had a 2004 tuono for years and sports bikes before it, fancied a change and after selling it a local dealer had a 03 sv650n, I had no intention of buying one but took it for a spin and loved it, I live in Ireland so with the type of roads we have I can have much more fun on the 650. The new sv would not be as premium a finish as the husky but if you haven't tried one, and you enjoyed the husky, you definitely should, especially considering the price compared to the husky.
Thanks Frank. Actually, not really its pretty good in our experience. We have the 701 Enduro now and that is much more vibey... getting back on the Vitpilen 701 late last year showed me how much they managed to control it on the Vitpilen and Svartpilen. Thanks, Aaron KNOX
@@millennialmalaise9386 yeah most of them are actually Japanese which are very reliable but not European shit and KTM engine are unreliable anyone with decent bike knowledge would tell you that.

Styling of Vitplien is much better, they should have just retained that with handle bars of Svartplien, and the lovely paint job of Svartplien , would be much better and appealing thing than this.
MAKSTR If the new 890 doesn’t intrigue you I’d like to hear what bikes you have. I wasn’t knocking KTM, just stated a fact. My first bike was a Duke 390, second a 690 and regret getting rid of either.
No offences, KTMs are great, but it's just a matter of taste, so there is no "correct" bike here. I would pay even more to have duke690 specs, but not having its' look. Never considered duke for myself, but when 2018 vitpilen appeared in local ktm/husky dealership it was the bike of choice immidiately, without even a test ride. It's my daily (any weather, winter as well) commuter and weekend twisties fun for a bit more than a year, no regrets at all.

Lovey bike, shame you had to do wheelies on it, you shouldn't really as it encourages street cred muppets to do the same. You can enjoy any bike without doing wheelies. These should be kept for track days and green lanes.
But you would have to have money to burn, to consider a bike so tiny. I would hate to think how it would handle rough surfaces and strong crosss or head winds. To me it is an example of form overwhelming the function.

Does anyone know if you can remove that rear side panel? It really ruins the look of the bike imo.
Hi, not really possible as its part of the side fairing. Thanks, Aaron KNOX
@@KnoxArmour Shame. Thanks for the info.
You actually can, check out this quick clip th-cam.com/video/otYcCWz40is/w-d-xo.html
How suitable would it be for a 6.3 ft rider?
Its a small bike, so you might look a bit big on it, but you'd need to sit on one to work that out I think. Thanks, Aaron KNOX
@@KnoxArmour Tanks for the feedback. 👍👍👌
Does the vitpilen feels uncomfortable compared to svartpilen?
Hi no the vitpilen is awesome riding position in my opinion... having the that I am used to a sports bike. Thanks Aaron
@@KnoxArmour is that people who arent used to sports bike might take time to adjust..?
If it’s any help, I have a Vitpilen 401. Great bike, been a pleasure but ride position, like 701, is pretty aggressive / forward so on longer rides it can be a bit uncomfortable. Sat on a Svartpilen 701 last week and position is more upright which would work better for longer rides. Great bikes all round.
whats the difference between this and the vitpilen 701?
Hi, its mainly just the looks and the riding position! Thanks, Aaron KNOX

So which Svartpilen offers the best bang for your buck? The 401 or the 701?
Hard to say... 701 offers a lot of bang! :)
I guess since it's a bigger bike, it should offer more. Yet I think the 401 look better than the 701. But that's just me.
I'm on the market for a fun small bike, and I just happen to seem both on sale; the 401 going for $5k and the 701 for less than& 8k.
@@balkenkreuz2063 Sure they're both great, just haven't ridden the 401 yet. All the best! Aaron KNOX
Hey, wheres the location of the shoot?

I love this, but I can't help but thing they dropped the ball on the dash.

honestly i have it, rather have these than all these tablet looking things on your dash..
I get false nautrals using quickshifter from 5th to 6th.its in for service so hope to get it sorted, brand new 5999 👌

Awesome look.
just bought one, but i feel like the only premium stuff is the mechanical stuff. esthetics are all feeling like cheap plastics. the mudguards, handles, tank, all the visual sensors and elektronics. under 3000rpm its horrible, i dont like the sound coming from some triumph triples. but it made me smile like a child when testriding. you need to be in the right gear or you get punished and i like that 😅, and the gears are short and way more usable instead of the 70+ mph first gear on a 675 cc triumph street triple f.e.
Thats great Sigour, enjoy it! Aaron KNOX
Hi, haven't tried the SV650, but rode an ER6 for a few years and loved that, which I believe it pretty similar. Thanks, Aaron KNOX
Nice review, thanks. Does the bike suffer in terms of vibration at highway speeds with its single cylinder design?
Thanks Frank. Actually, not really its pretty good in our experience. We have the 701 Enduro now and that is much more vibey... getting back on the Vitpilen 701 late last year showed me how much they managed to control it on the Vitpilen and Svartpilen. Thanks, Aaron KNOX
Westerners call this a beginning bike. Europeans call this the right on bike! I always loved single cylinder bikes. SR 500 for example..
Husqvarna Svart and Vit are worth every penny they cost.
Add the Coober piggyback module and the Husky will smoke that BMW

But anyone who pays more for a “brand” - come on! Check yourself.
Design? Awesome! Good? So good is discontinued after 2.5 years.
Loads of fun till 6 months then comes the problems with the reliability😏🕶👌

Styling of Vitplien is much better, they should have just retained that with handle bars of Svartplien, and the lovely paint job of Svartplien , would be much better and appealing thing than this.

Glad you enjoyed it Aaron KNOX
It’s a KTM, at a higher cost.
MAKSTR If the new 890 doesn’t intrigue you I’d like to hear what bikes you have. I wasn’t knocking KTM, just stated a fact. My first bike was a Duke 390, second a 690 and regret getting rid of either.
I would prefer the KTM dash.
joetca I’d prefer the KTM, period.
It's my daily (any weather, winter as well) commuter and weekend twisties fun for a bit more than a year, no regrets at all.

at 9300 GBP the bike is cheap. If you think that is expensive go get a job.

Lovey bike, shame you had to do wheelies on it, you shouldn't really as it encourages street cred muppets to do the same. You can enjoy any bike without doing wheelies. These should be kept for track days and green lanes.
They didn't get the sound quite right. It is not even as impressive as the Royal Enfield bullet.

er yes, probably!! ;) Aaron KNOX
But you would have to have money to burn, to consider a bike so tiny. I would hate to think how it would handle rough surfaces and strong crosss or head winds. To me it is an example of form overwhelming the function.
Couldnt spot the difference...
