That people hate on the fact that Elphaba was cast with a black actress is the epitome of irony. The entirety of the story is that she gets hate because she’s a different color. If I rolled my eyes any harder I might dislodge a ceiling tile.
I can’t believe people have time to be mad about that! It’s crazy!
Ironic, isn't it?
It really upsets me to see people react that way. Some of these are diehard Wicked fans who CANNOT accept any variation from the Broadway, which is frankly just sad. Especially the comments about Elphaba being played by a black actress, what an awful and disgusting opinion to have. It's just heartbreaking for me that people feel that way.
@@revendax2584 sadly it’s not just Wicked fans. I had the unfortunate experience of stumbling across a YT video by some racist, misogynistic incel who’s clearly never even seen the show going on about them race-swapping Elphaba and how terrible having female characters in a movie is in general. It had almost 5K likes and I don’t want to humanity any more.
@@XeonAlpha Unfortunately, I find some of those people to hold rather extreme world views and kind of live in a bubble surrounded by people who echo those same thoughts. I just report those posts and move on.
It will NEVER not be wild to me that we have seen so few black women play Elphie. The analog is so clear to me, and it makes the casting of Cynthia, who was already perfect for it anyway, even sweeter. I cannot wait for the non theatre kid world to experience this magic.
Truly a powerful message for anyone who’s been treated as “weird”, “ugly”, or “different”, especially when it comes to black women in particular. So many people don’t realize that it’s an allegory for racism and how corrupt societies will demonize POC for speaking up against them. I’m so excited…this movie was definitely needed in this era we’re in.
They don’t realize at all!!!!!!! Thank you for your comment! Powerful words!
an era created by wokeness and delusional trans people!.
How cool to see a reaction from someone involved in the production! Thanks for sharing!

While I could never truly understand the importance of Black actors in such importance roles, as a gay guy I understand the importance of representation, and shed a tear with you. Cynthia is incredible... the best actor got the part. Simple as that.
The best person got the role and she happens to be a black woman! I love this perspective friend. Thank you!
Everyone looks so perfectly casted. Cynthia blew me away (which I knew she would) but all the tiniest details, like her hand gestures or that amazing swirl of the cloak at the end? Morrible is right about one thing, “absolutely remarkable” is a perfect way to describe it.
It’s perfect!
Your reaction, especially with your connection to the show, is so special! Thank you for sharing.
Thank you for watching and commenting 🫶🏾
@@TishFergusonBeauty One unique thing I will say to you is I only welcome people of diversity that aren't the woke type.
Hopefully that checks everything out!
I have cried every single time ive watched this trailer. Ive watched it atleast 40 times now.
The trailer is that good!!!!
I love it when I see people who have worked in various productions of the stage musical react to this trailer!
There are more?!!! I need to search for them. I would love to see their feedback
@@TishFergusonBeauty yeah. There are at least two. One from Ryan McCarten (former Broadway Fiyero) on his TH-cam channel. And the other is on the musical's official Instagram featuring Mary Kate Morrissey (current Broadway Principal Elphaba), Lissa deGuzman (current Broadway Elphaba standby), and their green team!
I am soooo excited too!!! The only thing that has me worried is the splitting in 2 parts; my fear is that people who don't know the show will be left wanting by the first half, since so many of the emotional gut punches, plot twists and tie-ins to the Wizard of Oz happen in Act 2. I hope they found a good balance with that somehow, so that Wicked part 1 will still feel like a complete movie experience of its own.
I think they thought a lot of this out and I believe it will surprise us! I’m expecting the best
I've watched many, many reactions to this trailer, and was particularly moved by yours. I was a little surprised I didn't see anybody mention the racial implications of Elphaba being played by Cynthia (and young Elphaba played by Karis Musongole). I'm just a middle-aged straight white guy, but the social implications of this casting are not lost on me -- especially, as you say, in this moment. Thanks for taking the time to share your reaction with us.
She was the best from the auditions not sure there is social implications
@@terintiaflavius3349 The creator of this video SAID there are racial implications of Cynthia playing Elphaba. I didn't make it up. I was just agreeing with her.
It’s always downplayed when a black person specifically a black woman is casted. I am a black woman so I see from a black womans eyes. And Elphaba being casted in this film as a black woman amplifies the feelings of black women specifically in America. Any marginalized group can relate to Elphaba but I as a black woman relate in my own unique way.
Thank you for sharing your reaction! I feel like we're so lucky to get to experience this with Cynthia as Elphaba~ I can't wait
We are soooooo lucky! Thank you for watching
Your reaction was so sweet! 🤗 Thank you for sharing!🙂
Thank you for watching!!!!! I couldn’t believe I was crying! It was like 5 year old me saw all possibilities through seeing Cynthia play this role
Girl you made me cry and I seen this trailer like 5x , but just the connection on Elphie being black just really connects with a lot of things we go through ….
Girl I can’t watch it again bc I’m afraid imma lose it all over again 🤣🤣🤣🤣 this hit my heart so hard. Thank you for watching!
This trailer gives me goosebumps ❤ casting Cynthia as Elphaba is outstanding. The struggle she faces is going to ring true to so many. Love Cynthia and I know this film is going to be OUTSTANDING 😍 Fab review hun x
Thank you so much for watching
When I tell you I SCREAMED and sobbed hysterically 😭😭😭😭
Listennnnnnn
I love your reaction! This definitely looks special. I can't wait to see it!
Thank you! This is a special story to be told! Now even more special being told in this way!
I just loved your reaction! I see a common theme watching reactions of this trailer people just getting so unexpectedly emotional (myself included.) Cynthia and Ari are perfection in these roles and I can't wait to see this movie!
Like how?! I’m like how did I just start crying like this! 🤣😭
This was such a special reaction. I cried together with you. Thank you for sharing. Can’t wait to watch this is theatres 🤩
Thank you for sharing this!!!!!! 🫶🏾🫶🏾🫶🏾
I love that trailer!!!! Dope video.
For someone like me, who never saw the stage play/musical, this trailer is so powerful. I get emotional every time I see this. Top of my list for films to see this year. Love that casting and the music is magical.
It’s top of my list toooooooo! Thank you for your comment and thank you for being here!
Representation really matters! Great reaction ❤
It really does!!! It’s sooooo important!
You’re so lucky to have the job you do. What a delight. Love seeing people’s reaction to this trailer because I’m so excited for it. Cynthia is perfect, her voice, her emotion, her makeup, the micro braids!! I can’t stop looking at her hands in the trailer, the makeup and nails are amazing, but the way she uses them to emote! I just cant wait.
I feel so blessed every single day!!!!!!!!!! Cynthia is perfection! I was already a big fan! Now she has a piece of my heart
I have been waiting for a reaction video to this trailer that captured the magnitude of this film, and this was it. Your perspective is so special and so important, I immediately rewatched this entire video when it finished and cried with you both times. Cynthia is just going to be so magical and memorable. Thank you for sharing 💚
This made me tear up again. Thank you so much for this comment! 🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾 thank you for being here
I really hope that this movie will be good. That trailer was something, i have watched it multiple time while seeing others react to it and something just feels so special about it.
Im Very Excited!!! 🥰
It’s cool to see someone who was involved with the production react to the new movie! Thanks for sharing!

I’ve watched soooooo many reactions to the trailer and yours is BY FAR the best. Seeing your passion and the pride in your eyes and smile throughout is incredibly inspiring ❤️💚
Thank you! I love what I do and I’m so passionate about seeing POC on stage, behind the stage, on camera and behind the camera. Marginalized communities of ALL backgrounds don’t have as much of a voice as we would like and I’m here to help move the meter in the right direction. That was 5 year old Tish crying… seeing herself on that screen. Seeing that anything is possible.
Your reaction was so pure and i hear and see you! I cannot wait for this to come out! Thank you! 💜
Thanks friend! Thank you for this!
GREAT reaction! Thank you so much for this, and your insight! This movie comes out on my birthday this year, and I couldn't be more excited!
It’s going to be so good! Thank you for commenting and watching. 🙏🏾🫶🏾
You made me cry!
Listen I can’t believe I was crying like that 🤣😭🤣😭. The whole time people were telling me it made them cry I was like come on yall it’s a trailer and we do this everyday 🤣😭
I was also so thrilled and excited
It makes me sad that so few people talk about how Elphaba's prejudice relates to real-life prejudice
I really liked you
New subscribed here ❤
Thank you for these words! I play no games about being real about where we are as a society. Facing the reality is the ONLY way to create change. I’m extremely passionate about being a voice for marginalized on and behind the stage. Thank you for being here! Thank you for subbing! 🫶🏾🫶🏾
Bless you when Elphaba is green anyway this tells me a lot about the intention of this amazing story .. The ladies are fantastic from the trailer and that’s just the trailer ❤️🥰 I was crying with you x
It’s going to be amazing!!!
This movie could and will be a movement!
Without a doubt! Everyone is a key player
I felt the exact same emotions when I first watched the trailer! There is something so extremely special about seeing a black woman especially Cynthia playing Elphaba! I cried like a baby watching this and can’t wait to see the entire movie! I don’t think I’ve been this excited for a movie in a very long time! Thank you for all the work you do in our live theater productions… what an enormously special and important job to have❤️
I haven’t been this excited since brandy was Cinderella!!!!! This is everything. Thank you for watching!
@@TishFergusonBeauty yes ma’am this is everything! I was 16 when Cinderella with Brandy and Whitney came out and I have been a trained dancer since I was 3 so my dance studio owner planned a special night for us to watch it and I was only one of three black girl’s in the studio and we were all so excited and enamored by seeing a black Disney princess! The next year I was given a principal position in our ballet production of Swan Lake and later booked the part of the sugar plum fairy in the Nutcracker! I will never forget the little beautiful black girls coming up to me after the ballet and saying they wanted to dance! I truly wish Thanksgiving was tomorrow lol! I know I’m going to need tissue while watching Cynthia as Elphaba!
Im right there with you, I cried waychinh this trailer. Ive only seen Wicked once at the ASU gammage theatre snd it gave me so much LIFE! Sadly, some of the other reactions ive seen were shocking to say the least. Some reactors got real nit picky at some aspects of the trailer such as the slight change from the song popular and even more upsetting was that some people had the disgusting opinion that Elphaba shouldnt be played by a black woman, like for real? This looks AMAZING and people shouldnt get themselves all bunched up just yet. Wait until you see the movie ffs! I was initially leery about Arianna Grande playing Galinda but after seeing a small video where it showed her gettimg the call that she got the part of Galinda, she was crying and said she wanted to do the part respectfully and in a seperate segment she just emphasized how important it was for her to do the role as faithful to the source Broadway show. I feel bad because Im spacing on the original Galindas actress's name but you can clearly see how shes trying to do her best to emulate her sound. I am just beyond excited for this to come out and everything from the sets to the costumes look gorgeous. Thank you for your beautiful reaction! Much love!
I've seen you paint Elphabas on press videos! So cool to see you react to this.
It’s so cool that you responded to this video! Thank youuuuuuuu!!!!! 🫶🏾🫶🏾🫶🏾
Omigosh... I have watched a LOT of reactions to this trailer, but yours just might be my favorite. 🙂

I loved your reaction! It's really very emotional. +1 subscriber! ❤
Thank you for being here
I’m the biggest Cynthia fan. Moment her name was on this, I knew I would be throwing my money at this film.
She is EVERYTHING!!!!!!
I liked it tbh i dont get why ppl r afraid to see this work out but i see some big potentials for this and i love ur reaction sm i never watched the actual musical but i listened to the soundtrack and it was iconic 💖🤩
Thank you for watching! It’s so disheartening when people can’t open their hearts and their minds!
The movie seems like it's going to be a pretty good interpretation of the musical with serious nods to both Maguire's novel and the 1939 film. I think the novel (more than the musical) hits on themes of manipulating public image for power and it looks like we're definitely going to see some plot lines around that. And the art deco themes are soooo nostalgic.
Whewwww! This breakdown right here!!!! I think we will see the books true purpose shine through in the movie!
This is my favorite reaction to this!!
🫶🏾🫶🏾🫶🏾🫶🏾 thank you for watching. This was so raw and vulnerable
no idea how this ended up in my recommended. Didn't like the show and have no interest in seeing the movie but i genuinely TRULY LOVED watching you watch this. Hope this thing ends up exactly what you want it to be.
Thank you for this! I hope it is tooooooo!

Yasssssssssssssssssssssssss!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Love youuuuuuuuu
Girl I still haven't recovered from this trailer
😭😭😭😭😂😂😂
Cynthia pushed to have hairstyles like micro braids, she knew it was an important part of her story in playing the part of Elphaba. Fun fact - the make up department on the film never created 1 big batch of green make up, so they had to make it every day. Unfortunately it was made up of so many colours, that it was never the exact same shade as the day before!
Thanks for the fun facts! Wow!
When the first trailer came out I saw a video where this guy reviewed it and essentially said that the casting was forced diversity and I about LOST MY FUCKING MIND. It absolutely ENFURIATES me to see people disregard the blatant meaning behind the story of Wicked and everything it represents. Having Elphaba be a black woman and ON THE BIG SCREEN is the culmination of everything Wicked should have been and I can't say enough good things about this movie ❤
It’s so crazy bc they did the same thing when Brandy was casted as the black Cinderella on ABC. That cast was soooooooooo diverse and people said it’s not believable. The reason why we create is to create a world we don’t see but we want to see! That’s the meaning of art to me anyway. Thank you for watching
Nice.
Thanks!
And some people even dare to say they don't want to watch the movie...
well, it's Ariana Grande that's causing this. People think Ariana is so mean and wrecked a family by pulling the husband away, but:
1. That is not what actually happened. The man left the home. Ariana never did anything to seperate the man from the family. She even held their new baby.
2. The information people got was not fully accurate and the website who published this fixed the article with false information. Ariana was just mentioned in the original and there was a seperate article that said the words "colleteral damage". People only pieced them together. Ariana's name was too big.
This comment is very random but also one thing: Ariana Grande isn't the only human in this movie. People should watch this because of Cynthia's amazing voice. People just have way too many opinions. I love this movie already!
Thank you for this breakdown!!!!!!!!!! People are so unforgiving of women and slander us with the little bit of info they can get. Mean while men can mess up 1000 times and society says nothing unless they mess up to the extreme. It’s Patriarchy at its finest. I’m extremely happy that these women have this chance to shine.
They used your reaction on the "Wicked" movie channel.
Oh em geeeee! Thank you for letting me know!!!!!!

I am white as snow. But as a bisexual women - this looks amazing.
I love this musical.

So I am curious....as a professional makeup artist who specifically has done the makeup for Elphaba's character, what do you think of the makeup they did on her in the movie? To me, It looks SO MUCH BETTER than the ugly CGI witch face they did in Oz the Great and Powerful. Yes, she's green and she has the FABULOUS glasses, but it seems like they are still letting her expressions and emotions shine through on her face. Its not fake.
This is a great question. I would have to see the whole movie to really make a an opinion about it. I feel like I haven’t seen enough
Same, sis.
🤣😭🤣 same! 🤣🤣💚💚
Listen - never saw the musical once. Couldn't do it. Felt no connection to it. I just about cried too and have watched the trailer about 10 times.
It’s so moving!!
there were other actors in the trailer ..........
There sure were. I’m glad u noticed.
I heard someone say that, in its entire 20+ year run on Broadway, they have never cast a black woman in this role. Shocking, given the essential story of a woman persecuted for the color of her skin. Thrilled that the potentially defining cinematic version will correct this massive mistake.
Very shocking ain’t it? This movie gives me hope that we will see one soon
Elphaba is green…
Thanks for sharing
This looks good, but both female leads had a problematic past and I don't know how much people will support this.
Very interesting POV. I’d like to think if male actors with problematic pasts can succeed that they can too. Let’s see what happens.
That's not a black girl, it's a green girl with SOUL! Cynthia is spectacular and will kill it!
Definitely a black girl in my eyes. I’m seeing it from my lens as an African American woman so my eyes and heart will feel something uniquely different. You will see Elphaba how you will see her and that’s the magic of story telling. It’s all up to our individual interpretation
@@TishFergusonBeauty I got ya, and it wasn't disrespectful on my part, or at least I didn't mean it that way. Cynthia is an exceptional singer and actress. Love her!
Having a black woman play Elphaba is such a great choice. I'm one of the people that wanted the cast to be close to original as possible, but Elphaba's story fits as an allegory for vlack women. More than the obvious skin color is her relationship with the Wizard and Oz as a whole. She is made to be the common enemy by people in power that pretend to be compassionate. Black people are often portrayed as the enemy if you watch the news. She is seen as nothing but a convenient pawn when she wanted to save those being put down by the same system using her. My only critic of this trailer is that there are moments that feel action/adventure which really wasn't the focus of the musical. I hope they don't stray to much from the source material. Great casting though
This is a great outlook and breakdown of the trailer! U have me thinking a whole lot deeper
why play the racist card > the film is already getting called out for this very reason.
That’s what the whole musical is about though. These conservatives criticizing the casting of Elphaba are perpetuating White victimhood. The irony is astounding when you look at the message of Wicked. This is exactly why I’m so happy Cynthia was cast. Having a black woman play Elphaba underscores Wicked’s theme of prejudice.
I get why she feels this way. There have been less than a handful of black women cast as Elphaba on Broadway. Now, it is on the big screen and I bet, if it had been any other director- they would have cast a white woman to play Elphaba.
Its not a racist card. Anyone can play Elphaba because she's GREEN. The reaction is because so few woc have that opportunity. Anyway, you don't see me getting upset that Fiyero is always white when he's canonical dark skinned.
I’m sorry you feel like I played some card. I’m responding to a trailer as a black woman with my black experience. Thanks for watching
I don’t think we can name one black woman who played Elphaba on Broadway. Please do if I made an oversight.
This movie will change my life 😭🤌
My exact thoughts 🤣🫶🏾

I will never forget my first experience of seeing the musical and seeing all the beautiful sets and the costume designs, as well as the amazing talented cast. And I had just recently saw it again this past Christmas as I was introducing it to a family friend, so I am so hyped to see this iconic story come to the screen!
