    I love that you talk about the Manager + Waiter combination in the end. When talking about EDCing SAKs, people sometimes seem not to think about combining a 58mm knife with a larger one. I think the biggest hurdle to pocketing a SAK is both width and weight of a singular object, and both are so much more manageable, if you divide them up into two items. The ideal combination is - of course - a matter of taste and personal requirements. To me, it comes down to the question, if I need the excellent 91mm scissors on me, or not. If I can get by with the 58mm scissors, it allows me to pocket a slimmer and lighter full-size knife, such as the Waiter or the Cadet Alox. If I pocket a knife with 91mm scissors, I can reduce down to the 58mm Rally as a carry-along.

      Yes, the scissors issue is a deal breaker for a lot of people - solved by carrying a little 58mm as well. It’s always a little struggle deciding what to carry each day isn’t it!

    Yes. Pairing any SAK with a keychain SAK like the Rambler or Classic SD creates a very pocket friendly system with wide capabilities. I love my Waiter/Classic SD combo, and use them almost every day.

    Happy Saturday again Mr.A. I like your customization of the Waiter with the addition of a pen. I have not attempted that on any of my 84mm SAK's, if I do it will be first on my favorite - the Sportsman ( I have 2 - new & old nail file models ) & then my Tourist as these are the three 84mm size SAK's I have in my EDC rotation (along with some Wenger 85mm models). I have a Waiter that I have dressed up a bit with a Firefly ferro rod in place of the toothpick & a mini-screwdriver holding down a tinder spiral on the corkscrew but I no longer include it in my active EDC rotation. Regarding the parcel hook, it serves several other functions besides hooking the string on parcels. Firstly it holds down the pen when slid into the hooks channel & you gently close it so it grips the pen enabling you write with it, next you can use the parcel hook to pull out nails & screws that are protruding from wood, you can also use it to lift the hot metal wire handles on any tin can type of pot you have on a camp fire & you can as I have done used it to lift barbed wire coils when I had no safety gloves with me on reserve duty but had my trusty Hunstsman in my pocket ( you can of course use it to lift regular coils of wire fencing or to help stretch, straighten & bend disconnected electrical wires.

      Hello again, Steve! I do like to hear other people’s uses for the hook - I know it can be actually useful, it’s just always my least used tool and I always feel like I have to give it a bit of a ribbing when I talk about it!
      I’m with you on the Sportsman - brilliant little knife: I’ve got several 👌😃

    I’ve just gotten a Waiter. I’m going to pair it with a Jetsetter. I’ve already added a pin (slot behind corkscrew) and a mini screwdriver. I’ll add a Firefly to either the Waiter or Jetsetter. It’ll make a banging set with loads of functions and still cheaper than the Compact.

    • @accoutrements4469

      Brilliant! That'll be a great setup! I must say, i haven't got a Jetsetter yet - they're really hard to get hold of where i live. The Waiter is a great little knife though, i really like it.

      Thanks for the comments 🙂 I do love the Manager so much: it’s probably my most carried SAK over the years and is honestly more than enough on its own for most urban situations 95% of the time to get you buy for small tasks. It’s only really lacking the larger blade of the bigger models in terms of utility imho 👌👍

    It's the same as the Bantam except for the corkscrew. Strange thing is that the waiter is 1 euro cheaper in the Netherlands

    • @accoutrements4469
      @accoutrements4469  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yes that’s a bit odd isn’t it about the price!? I’d always choose the Waiter over the Bantam as the corkscrew can come in useful and it’s also somewhere to store an extra tool too (little eyeglass screwdriver or one of those tiny tinder/striker gadgets) 👍

    I didn't really know a better way to get in touch with you, I am a huge fan of the Victorinox Sportsman and I have noticed you have become quite experienced at adding a pen slot to the 84mm scales. I was wondering if you could lend some guidance about the process/share any "must know" info that would help your followers who are interested in doing the same avoid any mishaps and mistakes. Thanks so much!!

      Hiya and sorry for the slow reply: I’ve been meaning to do another vid showing how I did mine but just haven’t had the time. Felix Immler did a video about it (that’s where I pinched the idea from). U basically need some really small files (got mine off’v Amazon for just a few quid) - I use a square file to cut the opening in the edge of the scales (the files I got the square one just happens to be exactly the right size - same width as the pen plastic tip) then use the round file to file away enough of the plastic to make the channel. It did take me a while to get it right but there’s not many after market plus scales available for the 84mm models.

    • @flylaw5613
      @flylaw5613 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@accoutrements4469 Yes, thank you. To anyone who cares, I was actually able to achieve the above by using only my swiss champ (I assume anyone who is deep enough into Victorinox collecting to own a sportsman and be interested in converting 84mm scales into plus scales must own a swiss champ). I used the 3rd side/hack saw portion of the file to carve the opening for the pen in the scales, it wont be wide enough to fit the pen plastic tip but you can widen it to perfect size by flipping the file around so the hack saw/3rd side is replaced by the smooth top and then continue the same sawing movement but place lateral force to widen the opening with the main side of the file. You can also use the 3rd side/hack saw portion of the file to clear out a light channel for for the pen but it will not be enough on its own (it will only clear a general path for it). I then used the chisel (which I regularly sharpen and mine is always very very sharp) with the bevel side down to carve a "trench" in the light channel created by the file until it is deep enough to allow the pen (test on a counter top, downward pressure with your fingers, the scale cannot rise at all when you slide the pen in). I did this first for practice on some old 91mm scales I never threw away and then again on my actual 84mm sportsman scales (after soaking them in hot water and removing them with the can opener from swiss champ) and both came out shockingly perfect. It is not an easy job by any means and not a quick job either but both of my attempts literally look they are factory plus scales (once put back on the knife of course).

      @@flylaw5613 that’s excellent to hear you’ve managed a good result!! I started to attempt another one last night on some old nylon scales thinking they’d be easier and quicker but they seem more resistant to my tiny files so I’ve not finished it yet! It is a bit of effort - I wonder if a dremel tool with a suitable attachment would be easier/quicker…? Have to be careful to not go through the scales though. There’s a seller on Etsy - Taschenmesser Mad - he makes some really beautiful 84mm plus scales but only intermittently and he’s about the only maker I’ve found who caters for 84mm.
      Good effort and I’m glad you got a good finish! 🤘

    Hi. I can't find 84mm plus scales. How did you make yours ? I thought the Waiter would be the best EDC knife for me. In theory it was. But actually it became the knife I use to eat only. The problem is that if I open a box or make another task I can really dirty the blade I eat with. So I decided to use it for eating only. Having another tool on the back can be useful. That's why I'm going to buy a sportsman. I can use the Sportsman's awl for opening things while keeping the blade I eat with clean.

    • @accoutrements4469
      @accoutrements4469  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I used very small files to cut the slot. Felix Immler has a video on TH-cam where he shows how to do it.
      Yeah I think the sportsman is a wonderful knife and, like you say, the awl can come in useful for so many tasks. Thank you for commenting 🙂

    This is my daily edc. If a knife gets any bigger than this im not likely to carry it an a daily basis. I normaly just use it to open packages and cut fruit. Used the pin and twezzers today to get out a splinter in my daugthers finger. I pair it with a manager on my keychain to:) Only complain i have with the waiter is i would have liked the compo tool to be slighty thicker. Im not exacly confident using it as a prytool or skrewdriver.
