Great video! I definitely feel myself along this path too and how you charted everything out I think it gives me a sense of comfort with where I take myself in my work
Really great to hear - X100 is a fantastic camera for learning photography, pity it’s gotten so expensive! Thanks for watching
I just stumbled upon your channel and I'm really impressed with the video I watched! Your explanations are clear and your descriptions bring the content to life in an engaging way. I appreciate the effort you put into making your videos accessible and informative.
Keep up the great work - you've earned yourself a new subscriber!
Thanks so much Richard! I love photography but am not a pro - seems like there’s a lot of us on the platform that appreciate a broader view of the art apart from the latest specs and gear (although I love that part of it too). More content coming this week!
👏🏽 👏🏽 👏🏽
Your storytelling and progression are amazing.
Instant sub 🫡
Thanks so much! Photography is storytelling in its purest form, I’m trying to do it justice on this channel. More to come!
Love your storytelling, Jack! Really like your video style, great insights and shots 👌
Thanks so much for watching! Working on this week’s video now
Beautiful video and clarity around around your voice as a photographer.
Thank you for sharing
Glad you enjoyed it! More to come, working on this week’s video now
I used Provia film for my visit to the Seychelles in 1989. Beautiful results. Cibachrome printed. But I had to wait many years before I could share the images on social media.
Provia film! How close do the film simulations now get to the look of your photos back then? Thanks for watching, happy shooting!
Mate. This production. 👏🏽
Thank you Ravi! Lots more to come
Wow what fantastic storytelling. You made me question my own journey and intentions too. Subbed. Looking forward to your channel exploding!
Welcome aboard! Thanks so much, more content to come!
somehow your videos are mirroring my photographic journey, where i am at the "slow down and use manual lenses" stage, but kinda wished i have autofocus at the same time. not sure what the next video is, but im sure as heck looking forward
Thanks! Manual lenses are a lot of fun, and some really affordable options now on the market
beautiful narration and excellent synthesis. thank you for this video.
Thank you for watching! More content to come
Great story and reflects some of my own growth as a street photographer. I too had an OG X100, and have preordered the X100 VI.
Yes congrats! Hope yours arrives in the first batch.
I would add for street photography, try the dr400 extended dynamic range mode. The dr400 mode, in short, distributes the exposure more evenly thru the exposure of the images, removing the necessity of underexposing for highlights. It does this by requiring you to shoot at iso 640 or higher. This allows the camera to underexpose the hi lights of an image while boosting the mid tones and shadows…. basically what you eventually do in post if you underexposed your images. It does all of these calculations prior to the analog to digital conversion, so it works in RAW!
If I manage to get a preorder filled sometime this year I will try this out - would love to edit less to shoot more
Very creative and entertaining video. Thanks for the upload.
Thanks for watching! More content to come
This is such good storytelling man!
Thank you Justin! Every photographer has their own story to tell. Happy shooting!
Your art is beautiful.
Thanks for going through the archives! Not too many vids on the channel for now, hoping to stay consistent with 1 video a week for the rest of the year
Exceptional Video! Just subscribed! Warm regards from Melbourne 🇦🇺
Fellow Aussie! Melbourne is one of my favourite places for street photography, Brisbane is not as scenic. Thanks for watching!
Great video Jack , I have followed a similar path to you ! I now use the Sony A7CR and the small Sony primes as my travel / street camera. I see no reason at all to go back to the X100 series. I had the X100V and sold it . I have been a Nikon shooter since the F1 film days ! Yes I am that old ! I still use the latest Nikons for my sport but the Sony makes the perfect travel camera, the ergonomics are so much better than the X100, I have very large hands and the X100 just didn’t fit.Do I have a need for satisfying nostalgia from those years ago? No way!
Sony really is on to something with their A7C line! I wish they would put in a faster sensor from the A1 or A9 into the compact body and make the shutter essentially silent. I’m waiting for the new X100 announcement in a couple of days to make the final call, but at the moment I’d rather save my money for a new G Master lens. Thanks for watching Chris, more to come!
I got a Ricoh GR3X recently. Serves my purpose without the extra price tag and smaller form factor. It’s perfect … for me
I really like the GRIIIX too although mine broke recently! Made a video about it a couple of weeks ago: Bored with your Photos? Try 40mm | Ricoh GRIIIX
th-cam.com/video/vVmCtsdEvnM/w-d-xo.html
@@BokehTherapyHow did it break? It seems the durability (incl. dust on the sensor) is the biggest issue with Ricoh GR III.
Front lens plate fell off and warped - it doesn’t fit back together. I have contacted Ricoh in my country but no response, all my research says the repair will cost more than a new camera.
Amazing video. Love it.
Thanks so much for watching! More to come
Loved the X100V when it was announced but figured I'd be smart and snap up a new one at a discount when the replacement was announced. Welp. Didn't see that surge coming. So instead I bought the TTArtisan 25mm lens for my XT20 that I had set aside a while ago.
Nice! Ttartisan make some really great affordable lenses. Maybe we’ll get lucky once the X100VI is announced. Thanks for watching!
I want an X Pro 4 ☹️…. Nicely done here, great video and you make some very worthy points
No XPro4 until next year at least according to the rumors. Come on Fuji! Thanks for watching!
Fair warning...I was told today by my favorite big electronics retailer that my pre-ordered X100vi will not ship tomorrow with the first batch of cameras. I am starting to wonder if I will ever get one. At least I can watch others enjoy theirs on these cool videos.
Commiserations - bad luck that your camera won’t be in the first batch! I am in the same boat and am leaving for the trip soon. I might need to rethink this plan and start packing other gear
Very enjoyable...would you mind sharing with me what color you would prefer? Black or silver?
Black looks better to me, but silver has the retro charm! Get whichever one is in stock! Happy shooting
nice statements, for getting better picture.
Thank you, photography is a process of learning that never ends. More to come!
May I ask what glasses do you wear? They look very cool!
Thanks! They’re from an Australian brand Oscar Wylee
Good video! Subscribed :3
Thanks so much! Interesting to see what’s announced by Fujifilm next. More videos to come!
Rocking the Wotancraft
Yes I reviewed them in another video! “Photo Panic Packing for Japan? | Wotancraft Pilot 7L”
th-cam.com/video/NNJqhbk3v8I/w-d-xo.html
Hi Jack. I share the "nostalgia" you're reflecting upon. I owned and tricked out an X-E2 with an arca-Swiss base and thumb grip. It was a joy to carry around with the small original 23mm lens. Thus, the X100VI is on my radar, despite also looking at the Sony a7CR. So, the Fuji isn't a zoom lens camera? Sad
The Fuji X100V is a fixed lens camera not a zoom, although if the Rumors are right the VI will have higher resolution so cropping is always an option. The A7CR is an amazing camera, it’s my go to option. Thanks for watching!
Love the video. By the way, which camera strap is featured in the video?
I’m not sure actually, I think it’s from Amazon? It’s my friend’s camera, I don’t own any X100 cameras any more and the VI Is sold out everywhere. Thanks for watching!
I mostly use Wotancraft camera straps (bit.ly/3uIBZ94) and Barton 1972 (www.barton1972.com) myself. Great quality materials and vintage look.
Love your sketch of HC-B’s The Cyclist.
One of the best! Thanks for watching
@@BokehTherapy he’s the reason I sold my Canon gear and bought a Leica M2.
I loved street photography with my 5D3 and 40mm pancake. But manual focusing my 65 year old Summaron is like nothing I’ve experienced.
Every brand is talking about faster autofocus, but nothing beats a solid manual focus experience through the rangefinder. Pity Leica is the only one doing it, more people should be able to experience this style of shooting
I own the Fuji x100v but looking to buy the Sony 35mm f1.4 for my Sony a7r4
I’m a little concerned that once I buy the Sony 35mm f1.4 my Fuji will sit on the shelf gathering dust.
I know that both are completely different cameras and both have there strengths and weaknesses but I really don’t want to waste money by having a camera that’s not used often enough to justify keeping.
The Sony is so much bigger than the X100V - I wouldn’t worry too much. Can always use the 35 in crop mode for a 50 field of view on the A7R sensor. I get it though, wasting money is a big problem in our community. Let me know what you decide

I’m looking for a piece of cheesecake😂
Haha yup. Cake goes well with photography that’s for sure
hi Jack, may you share what is the strap you used for your cameras?
I mostly use Wotancraft camera straps (bit.ly/3uIBZ94) and Barton 1972 (www.barton1972.com). Great quality materials and vintage look.
@@BokehTherapy thank you
No problems glad to help
does your x100v tends to get warm? Mine was like that after taking few short burst shoot and not even doing video. it took around 15 minutes to cool down but tend to get warm again. since i mostly use hand strap with x100 series, it really was not convenience to use x100v. my x100f never had that issue.
im thinking to sold my a7c2 and get back to x100vi. same like you, x100 series taught me a lot about photography. my trip to japan with only x100f was the best trip i ever did despite i brought complete systems in others trip. do you think it worth to let go sony full frame system and back to fix prime apsc?
Yes mine tended to get a bit warm, think the new sensor and processor runs a bit hot. I shoot with the A7CR, but still considering an X100VI depending on how they have changed it. I would hold onto your A7C2 until you hear more about the new camera!
@@BokehTherapy funny thing about x100v warm issue is most of fuji ambassador dennied it. some users and camera stores agreed with me that x100v tends to warm.
im thinking like you. availability is the biggest problem if we dont do pre order.
I think as long as you can cancel the preorder still worth getting in first? Who knows how long the wait will be anyway
@@BokehTherapy pre order system in my country works with full payment or down payment. you could not asked money back when you give it. best thing you could buy other things with same amount of money that you have paid but not get the money back.
Oh no that’s not good. Have you tried the smaller lenses for Sony? 55mm and 35mm f1.8, or newer 40mm and 50mm f2.5 have a similar form factor.

Technically, thats what using film does!
Love the idea of film, don’t have the setup for it. Will need to take the plunge at some point. Do you shoot/develop your own film?
Have owned 2 sets of x100v. Its a weird one. I miss it when i dont have it. I dont use it enough when i have it again. The JPEG film simulations are good to have but the novelty wears out and the limitations of the x100v system does show when the sun is down. It has turned into a hype driven desired camera these days. Have recently setup a a7cii with a 40G to take the place of the x100v. How many cameras do we all need. That was the question i asked myself before selling off the ricoh griii and x100v.
Sold off the X100V so I’m in a similar boat. I have the A7CR and the 40G too. Video coming up soon about that combo. I have downsized the camera collection a lot over past few years, more to come
@@BokehTherapy FOMO got the better of me. Managed to secure one for delivery next week. Hope the ownership experience wont fade that soon this time round. Gave myself the excuse that the accessories I've kept around works with the vi as well.
Congrats! Did you go for black or silver?
@@BokehTherapy Silver. Had owned both colors for the x100v. The Black is a lot more discreet and feels more premium/metallic in hand due to the paint finish. The silver felt quite a bit cheaper like a toy camera but aesthetically pleasing and pairs better with my 3rd party accessories. Was hoping for the Durablack to be an option.
I thought the limited edition would be titanium! Instead it’s just some extra accessories. Black does look premium, even after it gets knocked around a bit. Hope it arrives for you soon, preorders went bananas from what I hear.
Do you prefer silver or black X100VI?
I would take either one, as long as it’s in stock! Previously I liked the silver more but the new black looks even sleeker than before. How about you?
I ordered the X100VI. I sold my X100F years ago and regretted it. When I went to buy the X100V, well you know. So this time I was going to get things right.
Congrats! Hope it arrives as part of the first batch. Entirely unimportant superficial question: did you get black or silver?
Hah! I ordered from B&H within the first minute of the listing. I hope so. I went for the black. My other Fuji's and my M11 are all black :)@@BokehTherapy
Yes I am going with black as well. Normally silver gets me but the all black sleek look has grown on me!
The problem with the X100 camera occurs about six inches behind the camera. This can be fixed with experience, workshops, YT videos, and looking at art & photography books.

It’s a great tool to realise how pedestrian our skills are - inspiration to keep learning. Thanks for watching!

Ahem…..FUJI….listen! 😂
Yes please - did you end up snagging a preorder?
Is it recommended to filmmakers 🙄
The X100VI has a built in ND and IBIS and 4K60 with not too much of a crop - good enough as a B-cam to film B-roll?
@@BokehTherapy im the guy who prefers filming and my wife likes taking pics. We wanna travel light so this camera but be a good option then. Would love to see 4k 120fps but 60 seems reasonable too 👍 thanks mate
Good luck with getting a preorder - I’m sure both of you will love it!
Well done. And, to answer your question, I'm willing to pay $1,599 usd for nostalgia.
Yes so are many others! Hope you get the camera soon
@@BokehTherapy Unfortuneatly I waited until last weekend to order, so it may be awhile for me.
I’m in the same boat. Think I missed the first batch of preorders
I’ve had lots of holidays better than my first…this entire analogy is fairly personal and subjective. I’ve never owned an x100 camera. Nothing nostalgic about it for me.
Haha “personal and subjective” and “tenuous connections” can be the alternate title for this channel. Thanks for watching anyway. What interested you about these cameras if you never owned a X100 camera?
Three years ago, I bought X100V after several tests shootings I decided to return it and refund. This Camera is NOT for me despite of being beautiful design look. Personally I ain't Fall into this stupid Hype Category of Social Media influencers garbage post and said about it. I prefer XT1 and 2 models instead they have everything I want and need. Nowadays the price of this X100V Camera has raised up ridiculous High.
Photographers tend to over romanticise our cameras, and companies like Fujifilm have done a good job selling the nostalgia to us. Great cameras but priced too high! Thanks for watching and keep shooting
Actually, you did fall into the “stupid hype” because you bought the X100v.
As long as we’re out there shooting I don’t think there’s such a thing as a “stupid” camera purchase. Only if it’s not being used!
@@Amcacs5654 Read my comments before Posting. I Said I bought it to try out, it didn't fit for me. So I returned and get REFUND. I Didn't Lose anything but just my Time and Experience with this Camera. Btw it's Not that Stupid to try something that I never owned before.
Trying something new is how everyone learns! Glad you’ve found your camera zen
It's costing too much. With that price, you can buy a Leica M8 already.
Sure can, M8 doesn’t have the CCD sensor corrosion issue either. But then there’s the cost of Leica glass! Thanks for watching
@@BokehTherapy You have a great point here, but considering that Fujifilm lenses aren't that good anyways, it might be a better idea to use a Zeiss or Voigtlander lens, which might even be better than the 23f2 on fujifilm's x100. Also, because of how slow fujifilm AF is, manual focus with leica might not be much slower.
I find rangefinder focusing is quicker than punching in on the EVF even with focus peaking. Who knew the little X100 would get so much buzz when it was released so many years ago - kudos to Fujifilm but there are lots of options on the market.
I found the Leica Q to be much better than the x100 series. I regret selling my Q but not my Fuji stuff.
Leica Q is fantastic, I am not a 28mm shooter by default so harder to use as the only lens. I had the Q2 for a while but sold it because of that reason. What do you shoot on now?
X100vi being made in China makes it just another camera. Not because of quality issues but because of the legacy. Almost like of Leica were to start making their cameras in China.
It’s a common sentiment, probably just an economic reality at this point. This helps get the camera into more people’s hands which is a good thing imo. Leica will never ship anywhere near the same number of cameras as Fujifilm (they don’t want to or need to!)
