- Better than meat! Do you have cabbage and potatoes at home?! Easy and delicious dinner recipe with simple ingredients! Just like slow-cooked onions, when cabbage is cooked slowly, it transforms into a sweet and tender delight. By adding potatoes to this dish, you can easily turn it into a satisfying vegetarian main course or a delicious side dish. This cabbage gratin will definitely leave you wanting more! INGREDIENTS:
1 cabbage about about 1 kg /2 lbs
3 garlic cloves
130g / 4.5 oz Gruyère
30g / 1/4 cup Parmesan
450g / 1 lbs potatoes
470 ml / 2 cups whole milk
4 tbsp sour cream or crème fraîche
Spices:
season with salt black pepper
1/2 tsp Nutmeg
2 tbsp fresh sage or 1 tbsp dried sage

Just made it. I loved it. Added some rosemary. Even my daughter who mostly loved the meat from a meal and then turned vegetarian ate her whole plate. Next time I think I would add one or two eggs.

I recently made this w/o cabbage it was delicious I added Sliced tomato to top right out of oven add a pinch of salt to tomatoe.. also if you haven't try lemon pepper their is also lemon pepper gluten free it enhances the veggies nicely. Even on pasta with oil n garlic as,a simple go to quick dish

I don't know about saving much if you have a budget...those are expensive ingredients and it's cheaper to just buy meat. But as a cabbage lover, this is definitely a recipe I'll try for a family gathering or potluck 😉

Looks delicious I have a few similar recipes I can relate the ginger is an option to try I add poultry season which is sage based it's wonderful addition I wish parts of this could speed up watching the butter smear.is a bit too long and chop of 1 garlic though calling for 2 or 3 or to taste I love adding fresh green beans to this as well it cooks steaming in the delicious flavors beautifully 😊

Why must everything be compared to meat. Can't we just appreciate this recipe for what it is.
Some do some dont. Seems like we expect others to want what we want when we want it. Opinions arent an ingredint
Dude, it has nothing to do with meat comparrison. For some of us, our bodies have rejected meat all together. So we're stuck wading through the mediocrity of vegan, vegetarian and other such types, trying to find something other than mushrooms, nuts and spinach and fucking ricotta, to act as a staple in a meat and 3 veg type meal. The struggle is real.
Could it mean nutritionally, or bodies turn it into protein?
