Hope you get it sorted it's a lovely car the red is nice we have a green one 1981 and it had a leak in pipe from water pump I have patched it got new pipe to put on great little cars when going well
....sorry to hear that David. My first thoughts when you said screeching sound was a belt slipping maybe, perhaps on the water pump or alternator? Hope you get it sorted. All the best, Gaz.
Oh dear...lack of coolant is never good is it...regular checks on older vehicles! Belts all OK? Nothing nasty exiting the exhaust pipe? Water traces on the dip stick? Good news if not...fingers crossed....
The thermostat housing has pink deposits around its base. I have bitten the bullet and sent to Eurosport for a new one. I repaired the existing one some years ago.
My alternator squeals under load. It has got worse over this year to the point where you can smell the belt burning. I would also say you are running the coolant too low. I keep mine about 1/2"-1" above the highest hose in the engine bay. That's one of the coolant hoses. If the heater goes cold, l know it has lost coolant.

New thermostat housing coming this morning.
First the squeaking noise then it goes TWANG!!!
Check if coolant is bubbling when engine is running

Thank you.
Look at your oil cap and dipstick. See if it has coolant mixed into it.
I haven't seen an x19 in a very long time.
Not many about. Rare in fact.
Perhaps you should mend it with TIG weld instead of plastic weld

That is a good tip. I will mark a dip stick.
