- Multiple police vans and cars respond to an officer who pressed their emergency button for urgent assistance during a disturbance outside the High Commission of India in London.
Featuring a new cell van, dog unit and Incident Response Vehicle all in white as the MPS begin to phase out the common silver/grey vehicles.

I think you’ll find London is a lot busier than anywhere else in England. On top of most other places the cars will be used on long country roads and in London the cars are spanked down small roads in second gear.
large cities almost always have more and newer police cars than rural areas and smaller towns.
The Met absolutely doesn’t have new everything.
A majority of the population lives in London, the GLA has around 14 Million of the UK's 68 Million. In some areas you can see old Vauxhalls driving around anyway, which go for about £200.

How do the emergency assist buttons work?
There called the panic button where all unit available must go to and to help the officer who pressed the panic button
Once the panic button is pressed the officer has, I think, six seconds of prioritised airtime where their message cuts over that of anyone else speaking over the airwaves at the time. Just enough time to yell “officer in trouble” and give heir location. Then every police officer who hears the message drops everything and goes to help their colleague. I also believe a gps signal lights up their location on the screens at the control centre in case the officer in trouble is unaware of their exact location, or if the radio message is inaudible. Some forces call it “the chicken button”.
YelpBullhorn that’s exactly how it works I know as I’ve asked some of my mates who are police officers and yes the “chicken buttons” do trigger a GPS alert

@@gary63693 3, Years ago. But to answer your question yes they do have to go in. Its a lawful order if a rest day is cancelled. Its tough luck. There are very few minute excuses to get you out of it.

Somebody didn't have there butter knife permit, this crime is common in London, I read it on the news in the US every other day, a damn shame criminals like these are on the streets.

Although based off of this video it looks like the police have lots of funding, in reality they dont. The main issue with funding is the cars the police have, as although they're sort of whick, they're not really quick enough for criminals on mopeds weaving in and out of traffic. Another main issue with the police funding is training officers. To get into the armed police it takes around 10 weeks of trainings in a specialized facility. The police have to pay for the facility useage for all ten weeks, they have to pay for the instructors, ammunition, and hundreds, if not thousands of pounds per officer, and I sont know the exact timings but every so often, I think once a month, they have to do more training to make sure they're up to scratch. So in total lots of the police budget goes to training officers aswell as to counter terrorism branches given the increase in terror attacks. So after all this, they have to use whatever they have left to fund the response officers, investigations unit, tsg, vehicles and the upkeep of them, and the training of police officers. (Also I'm not trying to start a comment war by countering your point so please dont shout at me 😃)

@@Painter-Bill yeah, I do understand what you're saying too and agree it's a bit over the top. But as far as I'm aware the way the red button works is that if there are officers who arent at a call, or the red button call is more urgent like if someone was getting stabbed, then all officers have to attend it. So I'm guessing that in your area not many calls were coming in but I might be wrong.

Shame they don't respond like this if there's a burglary or theft taking place or there's been a road accident. Of course, that would mean they have to work which is not in their remit....

They are oncall public order units that are on standby to flash protests, mass disturbance/disorder.

Do any U.K. friends know why you use so many different makes and models? To the outside observer, it seems overly complicated and expensive when you have to customize 50 different car models, instead of a few, like the states.
Everything on the pricing of cars is worked out to a minute detail. Choosing includes the best price at the time of purchase, availability (if the fleet needs to be turned over specifically fast) and function of the vehicle. You'll find most RTPC vehicles, for example, are BMWs with the exception of the Shogun. Same for ARVs - they're all X5s. Every force in the UK could be having BMWs right now right across the car fleets, but that was decided against on the grounds of public image despite being cheaper.
