I appreciate your honesty. You have a way of taking a “bad circumstance” and turning it into a good one. Simple. Straight to the point. Honest. Awesome channel.
@@AntonelliBaseball He says you are honest but I find many of your statements in this video to be misleading. To the uninformed, it would seem like you played Major League Baseball for 8 years, when in fact it was less than a month. When I listen to how you phrased your experience, you may be technically telling the truth but again to the uninformed it would seem like you were this longtime Major League player which is untrue.
@@ShadeMiller yes and what he said was not true. He said he did about a year of Major League service when he was actually in the major leagues for 28 days. And if you are casually listen to what he says, it sounds like he is this experienced major league baseball player who played for all these teams when he was actually a minor league player who played 28 days in the majors. Like I said, he is quite misleading.
@@apxl8r1 He spent all of 2010 on the major league 60 day disabled list, which in fact, is considered major league service time. The Padres did this to clear a spot on the 40 man roster - players on the 60 day DL do not count against the 40 man roster. The player, however, still gets major league service time, pay, and benefits. This way the team gets to replace a seriously injured player without having to cut anybody...
I almost went to St Johns but decided against it at the last minute. I went to English High instead. I’m from the area and know all the towns in Eastern Mass.
Lifelong baseball fan and 2 years of Little League under my belt, so I'm loving all these real-life stories on life in the Show and playing America's Pasttime!
Once again, great insight Matt. I'm OLD, 55 now but I thoroughly enjoy and appreciate all you've done and r doin now. Your a very refreshing voice for BB. It needs more young men like u. Continued succes in all u do. Respectfully, OLD G...
Got released from A ball right at end of season. Really felt lost because my whole life all I ever wanted to be was a baseball player. Like having your identity taken away. Afterwards a college soccer friend got me a tryout with his prof indoor soccer team and I made the team as a goalie (I had been a 3rd baseman). Played 2 yrs before going back to grad school. Got my life on track and now I’m a physical therapist 30+ yrs. always remember my baseball days fondly...
I grew up a diehard Yankee fan in Mannyville/Uptown NYC after college I went onto to work for ESPN. I was able to land a gig with Deportes as an NYC field reporter and interview players in the NYC venues. Going back to Yankee Stadium and MSG as a fan gets hella nostalgic for me, do you ever get nostalgic when you see the Pads play on tv?
Thanks for sharing! Yeah it's a bit strange sometimes. I still haven't been to a game as a fan yet, but would love to go to CA and take in a few games. Thanks for watching and commenting!
I knew a guy who played for Pittsburgh's AAA team.Told me he got tired of the routine, like putting on a suit and tie everyday.Had nothing to do with injuries.I ask him to play in a softball tourney with us one weekend and he said yes but never showed up that morning.Found out he got a DUI so apparently drinking played a part in his quitting pro ball too.
People sometimes look at pro athletes as super humans. Did you ever have that feeling or does it exist of feeling like you are immortal. Also what did it feel like when you experiences injuries and performed more similar to that of the average Joe?
I never really had that feeling. Although people try to make you feel like it lol. I always saw myself as a worse player than people though lol. Thanks for watching our stuff!!!
Ever think of coaching in professional baseball in the future Matt? You're experience and knowledge is inspiring and definitely could help younger players at the professional level.
Great video sir! You seem to have a great perspective and the kids are lucky to have a true professional that has been there done and done that..thanks for the insight that us mere mortals would never see.
You mentioned independent league ball. Is there any realistic chance for a player in independent league ball to get signed by a major league team? Are there any players you know of who went from independent ball to MLB?
Hey matt... love your videos man. I personally never played after the varsity level but I still really enjoy watching your content. You have a great personality and seem very honest in your video responses. I can only imagine that you are an awesome coach. Keep it up man🤘💀🤘
Thanks for the videos. How do you make your videos? Do you write out a full script, just an outline, or off-the-cuff. You mentioned once that you are in the basement ...do you have a studio, favorite time of day?
What league do the Antonelli Baseball teams play in?. How far do they travel?. I've never been a part of independent programs; I'm used to the local leagues run by the city/province, etc. Thanks Matt.
Matt, is there anything you would do differently related to the injuries, if you could go back in time, with what you know now? I mean like different stretching or icing or massages, etc.
Damon Diehl Along the same lines, do you think your recovery time for your wrist surgeries, as well as the surgeries themselves, were rushed to get you back on the field rapidly?
How hard was it finally making the decision to give up playing professionally? Was there a period before you went back to school were you kind of bummed and like wth do I do now?
Our older teams are starting to get very good. Still working on building up the younger teams. We have sent about 50 players on to play college ball in our 4 years so far. Thanks for watching and commenting!
Hey Matt i love your vids and I was just wondering if a 5/7 130 pound junior can make it to college? I have been working out and gaining some weight just wondering if you have any other advice.
ryan grand theres a place in college for almost everyone, just matters what level. Eat everything in sight and lift heavy. Try doing Rippetoes starting strength. Take pride in your measurables exit velo 60 and positional velo. Colleges want anthletes, make yourself one.
Matt shares various stories of individuals who just keep working hard and they realize their dreams! Why can’t that person be you? Cross train and lift weights. Hire a personal trainer for a few sessions!
You were a first round pick and they took you out of college ball? WOW...... In it's own way that is pretty impressive that you developed that much from high school to college.... And being a first round pick must have sucked with all that pressure on your back..... But hey man you actually made it to "the show"...... That is awesome........ I was drafted out of high school and I was like thanks but no thanks...... It's cool that you have a youtube channel that addresses all of the shit I thought about -I had I made that choice - and I'm confident now that I made the right choice....... I'm not saying you made the wrong choice, but I think you're a cool dude and you're teaching us a lot - and it's very interesting man, so I really do appreciate the videos and keep them coming because I am interested in what it was like going from A ball to the MLB...... Because your story is just cool ......
Really good videos, Matt. Life in the minor leagues sounds brutal. The pay is terrible. I knew it was low but not sub minimum wage.. Seems like a lot of prospects might become victims of that lifestyle.
It's hard readjusting to life after prison, some people never make it in the outside world. Proud of you.

How were you getting hurt so much..getting hit in the box or playing the field? Just curious

43 days of service, I assume that would be on the roster and a guy is eligible for a MLB pension?
Did you ever ponder a comeback? I mean, give your wrist two years and give it a second go round? You have spoken of your wrist often, how bad was it?
