YouGoProBaseball hey there my name Is Kenton’s SwAt Operator from the Bahamas so being physical is very important so I started my son with baseball and I watched so many of your videos, I have a 7 year old son playing coach pitch and he’s a pretty good size for his age. He strong but I couldn’t quite get the speed he needs but after this he’s a home run hitter my only issue was him breaking it down to hit separating the movements and having him do it holistically. But thank you so much please keep up the good work.
I think about just taking my barrel to the ball and that works for me personally. Taking the hands to the ball makes the barrel fall out, thinking about hitting it with the power point of the barrel though keeps me in a good mechanical position.
It's great to see this video now, because as an adult I started to make this modification a few years ago my power and contact improved dramatically. I called it "sitting on my back leg", which essentially translated to me a more level swing by eliminating that drag swing by shifting my weight slightly to the rear leg before exploding forward. But kept everything compact, and "short". Thus I was able to get that rubber band effect.
This is the truth and so many high school coaches or coaches in general are so wrong . Probably a lot of ways to get kids to think about how to “turn the barrel” but no matter how you word it , it’s the proper and best bat path. Especially if you do that while staying in the phone booth. I started this philosophy with my son 3 weeks ago and he has went from a lifetime 280-300 hitter to a 400 hitter already and he barrels way more balls up than ever before on slow and fast pitchers. Now it’s just his timing that has any issues, he has trouble waiting on the pitch . antonelli and teacherman are saying the same thing basically but in total different ways. Teacherman’s way didn’t compute with my son but the way Antonelli explained it made more sense to him. I appreciate these videos. TH-cam can save parents a lot of money.
Great combination of guys working together and both of you know what ur talking about. I THINK that every kid that want to be a better baseball player should watch. Happy holidays to both of you and your family.
enrik valle The elastic band part made sense. But uppercutting is a pitchers best friend. Don’t throw the ball belt high and right over the plate and they’ll never even make contact.
Wow, been watching a bunch of these lately, but this really gave me great insight on bat speed. I've been too mental on staying connected with body strength, but loss all that whipping power
David Dutton Creating a huge loop in your swing creates lag in your bat swing, makes you slower to the ball. Unless you’re playing slow pitch softball I don’t see how this benefits anyone but the pitcher. If you throw with any velocity and can locate, anyone using this hitting technique is gone before they get in the box.
@@stephendre2902 Go watch swing mechanic breakdown videos of any great hitter from any decade of baseball and you'll witness the "turning the barrel" or swing plane and bat path techniques used in full glory. Theres a great late 60's video of Ted williams teaching proper hitting technique and his insights more closely resemble Antonelli's teachings and others like him, then the classic straight to the ball, swing down and squish the bug techniques that some players and coaches talk about. Though with that said, developing a good tight power swing takes time and practice and it doesnt come from just watching a video or two online, hearing someone tell you the keys of a great swing only gets you so fair, its up to the hitter to take that knowledge and put in the work through tee drills and soft toss drills etc to develop a proper tight and powerful swing. Teaching this swing teachnique can be vary determental for young developing players because of the looping swing factor and for that reason teaching such a technique should be reserved strictly for older youth... the entire goal of the turning the barrel technique is to get the bat on path and in the zone early to maximize chances of making contact. The truth of the matter is that the perfect power swing is a combination of both straight to the ball and turning the barrel/swing plane techniques... turning the barrel gets you in the ball path zone early but you also need a little straight to the ball technique to get you through the zone fast... again a tight power swing takes many many hours of hard work and practice to develop.

this is HUGE for every kid..if ur pulling the bat you'll be playing so@@er soon... I like to keep it EASY..especially for the younger players.. For me, the bat quickness helped by the hands (arms) comes from the running start. The running start comes from tipping the bat and then letting it rip with the hands without stopping to set the bat.........just going from the time the bat reaches it's farthest point in the tip. Here are some clips starting with Ruth and working the way up to the guys of today like Bonds, Guerrero, Soriano and the young teenager Robert Stock. "When they tip it forward, they go from there.....they don't start, and then set their hands and then have to start again. Much like the running start I have yapped about with maddux for years "What he is doing is getting more batspeed with less effort.......a running start. It does not need to be explained to a kid at all......just tell him to get his hands away from the body a little, point the bat at the sky, tip it towards the pitcher and then let it rip. If he asks why, you respond by telling him he will hit the ball a lot farther. When he does, there won't be any need to talk about pronation or whatever. If he can't do it, then there won't be any need to talk about pronation or whatever, because it won't matter. "About 99% of all guys in the big leaguers were not taught the swing. They just found it along the way through emulation, feel or just blind luck. The clip of Williams is great, because he was 48 years old when it was shot and he is ripping the ball and laughing. He is also tipping the bat and then letting it rip. He is also the best hitter who ever walked and had dozens of instructors telling people that he was just a freak and that you should not copy him. They say the same thing about Bonds today, and the only guy who was smart enough to copy him was Robert Stocks dad, and it is paying off. He copies Bond's running start and the kid can hit balls a long way. Everyone else does not copy it because they think it is too hard to do. Mr Oh hit 868 dingers, was 5' 10, weighed 165 and nobody paid attention to his swing in the USA either. "Last year in September, I saw the Mariners play a 6 game home series and every day I was there early to watch BP. Outside of Richie Sexon who is 6'9", Ichiro hits the ball farther than anyone on that club. He bangs ball after ball off the restaurant in right field which is about 410 ft away. In BP he tips the bat and lets it rip. He is 5'9" and about 160 lbs. In games he does not do it, because with his 3.6 speed, he was taught at a young age to take advantage of it. "If your kids can run like Ichiro, then they can be dead hands slap hitters, but if they can't, then they better hit like Molitor, Olerud or Brett or better yet, learn to tip it and rip it and they may hit enough home runs and doubles to make their High School coach really like them. What is really hard is setting your bat behind your shoulder, go from a dead start and then expect rotation to bring the bat around and magically hit the ball. That has been taught to many kids.......good luck" __________________ "Tip it and rip it"
That was good info. The explanation could be a little better but I was happy it was correct info. When a player is in his batting stance his hands are generally palm front/palm back. We all know we want to be palm up/palm down when we hit. Therefore, it is just a matter of WHEN we transition from one to the other. You can either transition early while your hands are still close to your back shoulder or much later, close to contact(bad thing). Earlier means in the zone longer. As far as pulling back the rubber band goes, you should feel that stretch in the lead shoulder. If you feel it there when you load, then you are creating the proper stretch. Hope this helps.

Coach whats your opinion on toe tapping as a hitter vs the leg kick or just straight striding. Do you believe toe tapping is good for timing up faster pitching? Been thinking of implementing it in my swing since one of my favorite hitters (Victor Martinez) does it 💪👊
Hello and thank you for your posts. So I have a 16 yr old son who has been taught this since he was 13. He hit bombs and is a very patient hitter. What I see him struggling now as he faces 87-92 consistently is not popping up with his swing. He controlled this much better at the lower speeds but now he seems to dip his shoulder much more ans gets under everything. I don’t see any videos any where teaching how to correct that with this type of swing. Can you help?
Hey coach, I’m coaching Vaughn school team for the first time, what are some good tools for a productive practice? Like drills that will improve the players?
Agree one hundred percent but I also like the one where you put the bat on your shoulder and drop into the so called slot now what you are demonstrating seems to be for a top hand hitter such as a Barr y bonds was and advocated also keeps you
@@6stringsofgrace Umm yeah this Ted Williams right here... th-cam.com/video/FiAZuEuaXWk/w-d-xo.html "I think it makes sense to think, that if you swing in the oppisite plane in which the ball is being pitched from that your chances of making contact are much greater." which comes directly from the mans mouth himself... "to me the ideal swing has always been one that was slightly up." which again is a direct quote of his from that 30 sec clip. If you care to watch the entire 25min video of him breaking down his plate approach heres the link. th-cam.com/video/OsZvdU0o-gM/w-d-xo.html... Its quite amazing to see having been made all the way back in '66 Ted Williams insights on hitting are much more similar to Antonelli's teachings then the straight to the ball, swing down, squish the bug techniques that some players and coaches teach... Ted Williams master class in hitting technique was dirctly intune with the modern swing plane, bat path, turning the barrel teachings. through the years with the advances in video quality we're now able to analyze all the great hitters swing mechanics in high definition and ultra slow speeds taking note of any and every detail to the point that we now have much greater insights into exactly how the greats swing... far greater then anything Ted Williams had avaliable to him at the time... and since we know the feeling of a swing can be much different then what a player actually does during a swing, Williams masterfully broke down great hitting technique and was extremely aware of his swing technique considering the era and limitations of playback footage to fully analyze his own swing... Antonelli and others teaching bat path/turning the barrel swing mechanics are simply expanding on Ted Williams teachings, with the aid of modern technology to assist them in fully breaking down great hitters swing mechanics all the way down to the last detail.
Your shoulders are opening up with your hips, and your hands will drag with that barrel turn. Understand getting on plane, but the back shoulder drops naturally behind the baseball if you keep the top half still stacked, and the hips go first..
Please take my son for a day.... his swing is killing me... last year he was killing the ball, but this year it’s just hard grounders to second base... I think he’s opening up his upper body to fast.
@@YouGoPro lol love this video but why don't you do a collaboration with coach Justin from ultimate baseball training 😂 I just want to hear that story honestly
More connected as in the babe Ruth drill towel under front arm but what about pull guys well they do and I have said it before George Brett did not hit like Willy Mays and vice versa but certain truths have to be you have to get into a good position to hit very important but before you do that it would be a good idea to work off of what is essential in going through the zone and then work backwards and forwards ok I really believe this forget about the plane of the pitch swing that paddle long thru the hitting zone that requires an approach into your optimum bat plane if you were to get your optimum pitch you are now in a position to hit that was my father's big thing when he worked for the giants also good description of how the stretch worked my dad was against hands going back he was in your position with that back elbow look at Ralph kiners swing almost exactly as my father they even resembled each other although my dad got on wrong side of Branch Rickey ok also look at Jermaine Curtis video the one of Gary scheffield taking batting practice with his cigar in his mouth that was a golf technique used by Charley sifford in golf swing under the cigar I followed him for 9 holes once after as he headed for the range to warm up he lit up a cigar and kept it there on every swing
Sure they can... as long as they've put in the work through tee training drills for high, low, inside and outside pitches, its all about building that muscle memory to the point in which youir body reacts before you even fully processed all the information coming in. Unfortunately to many young players will watch videos like these or be taught this technique but not put in the effort to fully develop the swing for pitches that aren't straight down the pipes... Those that do are the guys crushing your pitches all day long, during every game faceoff. Because the fact is that all great hitters use essentially the same swing technique just with slight sylistic differences but the basics of bat path, swing plane, turning the barrel exists and can be seen in every great hitters swing mechanics. The hitters you face that have fully developed this type of swing, you likely dont even realize there doing it because its been perfected so well by them... hitters that do this swing technique wrong will always stand out to you since its noticeably a terrible looping swing when its poorly executed and unperfected... but when done right it crushes.
The way you turn the barrel is FLAWED! Your turning in the vertical plane.... then turning in the horizontal plane..... Big loss of power 1.... 2 a struggle to then rotate in the horizontal plane.... maybe that's the part you didn't understand and only lasted what... a season....
What I’ve noticed with all these youtube instructors, is they never once actually swing the bat. They show everything right up to contact and stop. Because this isn’t how you swing a bat, and if they ever actually tried swinging like how they teach it would look ridiculous
cowboys cards 82 Josh Donaldson does not take half swings, he takes full swings, and he uses his arms and hands at and thru contact. This guy teaches you to turn your body to contact and stops there. Go thru his videos, you won’t see him swing the bat once
HBK360MUSIC correct Donaldson doesn't half swing. What we're talking about is turning the barrel vs pushing the barrel/knob to the ball. Donaldson turns the barrel.
cowboys cards 82 that’s great, all I’m saying is maybe, just maybe, he could swing and hit a ball to demonstrate what he’s talking about. And I don’t mean to single him out, it’s literally every single one of them. And it’s because this swing makes no sense. You HAVE to use your hands and arms to swing the bat. It doesn’t matter if you push or turn the barrel if you don’t even swing. Teach them how to swing, not how to half swing. That’s all
@@HBK360MUSIC what you want to search for is swing mechanic breakdowns of pro hitters, Antonelli has tons of them and theres many other youtubers that make them too... Antonelli was one of if not the first youtuber to break down swing mechanics of pro hitters so thoroughly. You can find "swing mechanics breakdowns" on nearly every great hitter. Encarnacian, Stanton, Judge, Harper, Yelich, Donaldson, Griffey, etc etc Antonelli has shown videos of him hitting tee drills and videos from his minor league and pro days early on into his youtube channel... but why show himself as a breakdown reference, when theres an endless supply of pro players crushing homers well displaying the turning the barrel, bat path/swing plane technique. That said, as a long time antonelli viewer I fully understand your perspective and agree with you that when he does these training videos he often over exaggerates the movements that hes trying the explain, which can be vary confusing and counter productive unless you have a basic understanding and basis of what hes trying to convey... watching him break down the swing mechanics of a great hitters is much more informative and once you watched enough hitting mechanics videos you begin to see a uniformity among hitters, all the greats use essentially the same swing technique with slight stylistic differences but the fundamental basics exist across the board among all the great hitters... which is a turning the barrel technique. and even with all the internet knowledge one can recieve, it still takes many many hours of practice and dedication to develop a proper tight and powerful swing... meaning early on plane with the ball yet still fast through the zone, Yelich talking about his days of having bonds as a hitting coach is vary insightful to hear too since I believe it gives merit to the thought that a great swing combines both straight to the ball/swing down approach and turning the barrel/bat path technique... one technique gets you fast through the zone and the other gets you on path and staying long in the zone... combining both aspects gets you the tight powerful swing that all the best hitters in the world have.

Agree one hundred percent but I also like the one where you put the bat on your shoulder and drop into the so called slot now what you are demonstrating seems to be for a top hand hitter such as a Barr y bonds was and advocated also keeps you
This is what the greats do .. Ted Williams, Barry Bonds .. what are the other drills to help with this move ??
Ted Williams? Nope
@@6stringsofgrace Umm yeah this Ted Williams right here... th-cam.com/video/FiAZuEuaXWk/w-d-xo.html
"I think it makes sense to think, that if you swing in the oppisite plane in which the ball is being pitched from that your chances of making contact are much greater." which comes directly from the mans mouth himself...
Its quite amazing to see having been made all the way back in '66
Ted Williams insights on hitting are much more similar to Antonelli's teachings then the straight to the ball, swing down, squish the bug techniques that some players and coaches teach...
Nice
I think the most difficult thing is not to care about my hands when I swing.
Please take my son for a day.... his swing is killing me... last year he was killing the ball, but this year it’s just hard grounders to second base... I think he’s opening up his upper body to fast.
Hey coach how do you have it be muscule memory. My swing is just naturally down.
And how do you get the feel of it thanks.
Practice
YouGoPro I also need to use my hips more I just do weak groundouts to second baseman.
Alex31bc Saint Don’t do this at all. It’s terrible advice and probably is the reason he couldn’t hit big league pitching.
Stephen Dre but all big leaguers do it....
Is this for power hitting or contact hitting
Both
It's for hitting it hard one tyne. Not semipro like coach.
Feel the knob bro. Feel the knob
Wow Kor sub title
Thank you
You’re welcome 👊😉 sorry they are not perfect
YouGoPro I heard You go pro baseball center in Sandiego
Is it right ?
Tommy milone was signed by the Mariners
tenny 27 I saw that!
Turn the knob deeper "Solid Gold"
Turning hips, inside out, minimize front foot step, head down on the ball.
Its not looping he is teaching its barrel path. Simply longer in the zone. Allows you to control more.
I wanted him to finish the swing the entire video. Just one live swing…that’s all.
Kids, what ever you do make sure to not pin your elbow into your side. Trust your hands and taking the knob to the ball worked for years.
can you do a collab with csaint?
Yeh tell him to hit me up!
@@YouGoPro lol love this video but why don't you do a collaboration with coach Justin from ultimate baseball training 😂 I just want to hear that story honestly
아~~이제 자막이 이해됐네~ 번역기로 만든 자막이구나~.
Every Mlb player does this.
Madden King Naw
You’ll never connect on the up and in pitch. Love pitching against these kind of hitters. 0-4 all day. Great advice coach. Lol
Stephen Dre
0-4 for sure they can’t catch up on the fast high pitch they can only hit mistakes lol
That made no sense . To hit the high and in pitch just back off the plate .
I love Matt but he says literally a lot
The way you turn the barrel is FLAWED! Your turning in the vertical plane.... then turning in the horizontal plane..... Big loss of power 1.... 2 a struggle to then rotate in the horizontal plane.... maybe that's the part you didn't understand and only lasted what... a season....
Antonelli was a first round pick for MLB so idk what ur talking about
What I’ve noticed with all these youtube instructors, is they never once actually swing the bat. They show everything right up to contact and stop. Because this isn’t how you swing a bat, and if they ever actually tried swinging like how they teach it would look ridiculous
HBK360MUSIC Josh Donaldson will disagree with you.
cowboys cards 82 Josh Donaldson does not take half swings, he takes full swings, and he uses his arms and hands at and thru contact.
Encarnacian, Stanton, Judge, Harper, Yelich, Donaldson, Griffey, etc etc
Antonelli has shown videos of him hitting tee drills and videos from his minor league and pro days early on into his youtube channel... but why show himself as a breakdown reference, when theres an endless supply of pro players crushing homers well displaying the turning the barrel, bat path/swing plane technique.

Sorry but that swing is not good his right about the sling shot but that’s not how u create separation any time u drop the barrel your not gonna be a 330 either ever!
