- Hello,
I found this dam near the road. There was 2 dams in 50 meters range. This dam was the highest one. 180 centimeters of height. Seems beavers preparing for a winter. - วิทยาศาสตร์และเทคโนโลยี

I have torn out a number of dams, the best way I have found, isto use a pick ax. I start at the bottom of the dam, on the back side and tear it out all the way down to the creek bed and then move forward with the tear out.i take out about a three foot width and when the dam breaks loose, it clears everything out with the water flow.
Kenislovas: I think your method is by far the best with the potato rake, then with the small bladed shovel when down deeper. After 14 minutes on this dam a lot of muck is still being removed with the potato rake because large wads of grass and twigs can be dredged up with the strong current.

They were on Issaquah creek twice the size of that one
One time they got ahead of me they built one three times bigger
Had to get the government involved right before a big flood came
They took it down
The flood was so bad it could have busted the dam and cause worse damage downstream

Thank you for bringing us this video, it was as well you removed this dam as had the animals continued to build then they would have flooded at least part of two fields which would have been serious news for the farmers. This work that you did in considerably lowering the water level was a major task which the people are absolutely delighted to see. Thank you for this very interesting and informative video presentation which is much appreciated by the community.

Great job… just a tip to make it a little easier on ya next time… start picking at the very sides and leave the center alone… when you have enough flow on both sides it will do the work and flush the center out for you.
Perhaps you could upload your own videos to your channel of where you have previously demonstrated this sage advice in practical terms. Unless you are just an armchair expert with no experience of these matters.

I would also suggest trying removing one or both sides of the dam so the water pressure begins to push the rest away

You should keep some of the best sticks from the dam and make walking sticks out of them. I've made some nice ones out of the dams I've taken apart. The ones that were stripped by the beavers were the best to use. Love watching you break the dams, keep it up. Nothing better than thinking about some aggravated beavers as the water level drops.

The land in the videos is very low lying and susceptible to flooding and so man made canals are created to drain them. The beavers dam these man made canals and cause the productive land to flood and be non-viable for food production. This is the situation in many areas of that country. In the video you can see areas of flooded land caused as a result of the dams and the land not being able to drain.

On this video, there were a large number of large branches laid on top of the dam; are these placed to support the dam, for future construction, due to the AMOUNT of water being held back? Bet the beavers fixed it in 24 hrs. Gotta remove more than that. Only way that will stay open is if ALL the beavers are removed then again new beavers moving in will have a dam near ready for them. It's why they are called busy beavers. Good luck.

ha ha ha. 50 meter down wait the next dam so what a Joke to must go down and open the next dam and the next because he only let the wood swimm downstream,can you not see this? he must take the wood out,not send them downstream to hanging there fast and create the next Dam. Think befor you work.

Just curious, was the dam flooding the road? If not, what was the logic used for removing it? As a former professional beaver control trapper I have come to appreciate the benefits that beaver have for the landscape and environment. Beaver are a keystone species and their engineering adds many more benefits to nature and the environment than an unobstructed stream. Study after study has shown they enhance the fish population in watersheds and create vital wetlands that are rapidly disappearing from the landscape. Beaver ponds also act as nutrient sinks which improve water quality downstream, especially in areas with heavy agriculture. Beaver created habitat also acts as carbon sinks which arguably are important in this day and age when climate change is an issue. Beaver altered landscapes store water, increase the water table and mitigate floods by slowing the downstream flow of water after major rain events. Beaver were on the landscape before humans and they play an important role. I find it ironic that your store sells shirts about "getting back to nature" and yet you find enjoyment out of destroying wetlands that are extremely important to the nature you claim to love. Having partaken in clearing areas of beaver and coming back years later I have seen the decline in biodiversity and degradation of the habitat, fewer birds, amphibians, reptiles and mammals that require wetlands. At 60 years old I have few regrets in my life, but destroying productive wetlands made by beaver is probably my major regret.

Until you tear one out, you have no idea how well built they are. Once you start you about have to finish or the the little buggers will fix it.

It doesn't seem like the dam was destroying any of the farmlands. I don't know why it has to be destroyed just so that water can flow? I would like people to see how we can work with Beavers and their natural habitats and to insure that they create little pockets of wetlands throughout the farming areas.
Beavers are immensely needed. With overgrazing, over farming, and the lack of nutrients that go into the soil from years of harvest, why not let the Beavers do their thing and fix the eco-system?
Happy for you to buy your own productive farm land on which you depend on an income and the community depends on for food and then allow beavers to comprehensively flood it so it is no longer viable.
