ABOUT VEDANTA
Vedanta is one of the world’s most ancient religious philosophies and one of its broadest. Based on the Vedas, the sacred scriptures of India, Vedanta affirms the oneness of existence, the divinity of the soul, and the harmony of religions.
ABOUT US
Vedanta Society of New York is affiliated with the Ramakrishna Order of India. In fact, this is the Order's first Center started by Swami Vivekananda, in 1894. It was a historic event, for the seed of the world-wide Ramakrishna Movement was sown here in New York over a century ago. Swami Sarvapriyananda is the present Resident Minister and Spiritual Leader of the Vedanta Society of New York.
Swamiji's says in another discourse that once you have a glimpse of the Truth, you start respecting every way of finding the truth.
If one respects his/her own religion can never have disrespect for others....Swamiji always speaks so well.....his talks heal the mind....
@@suhitabhattacharya2818 what about other religions that call you infidel/ kafir and prescribe severe punishments
please read these so called sacred texts- old and new testament, quran and hadiths
the best book i have read on this topic is UNDERSTANDING MUHAMMAD by ALI SINA ( free download)
Hadn’t put that into words myself, but yes, now I see that is true!
Swamiji.. You are born here to teach. I have never been more spellbound by the clarity and lucidity of how you teach.
We pray for you and Thank you we are ever so grateful swamiji.
Beautifully expressed self for self and self and self...there are no others. Dhanyawad.
Only if the whole world knew how great is this Swami... Forever indebt and Grateful
Wonderful, profound knowledge shared by swami, really appreciate though I am a practicing Catholic ,what I heard this morning was really wonderful
Indeed! His ability to share these deep, universal truths that have the power to liberate us all is truly God-given. I laugh sometimes and maybe feel a little sad too that videos like this just have 30k or so views. So grateful that I am 1 of those views. We must be blessed to have these pure teachings in our life🙏
How is this guy giving better Christian teaching than 99% of pastors?
A sad reflection on the state of contemporary Christianity methinks.
Makes me want to be a Christian priest to bring back spirituality in a church focused on empty rituals
Once again this class is such a source of drawing us to God. I am so inspired to hold on to God. Thank you Swamiji for your worldly teaching espousing us spiritual seekers to the best candle light.
This lecture suddenly show up as a blessing to all spiritual seekers -nothing less than the GOD 's way of communication to this world ! Swamyji is an ocean of knowledge and compassion to this world . Swamiji is very convincing and lucid with his explanation and one can immediately feel that he is in best hands to realise the supreme conciousness ! My greatful pranams to the lotus feet of swamiji and to his immense knowledge .

no bounderies no partiality real spiritual seeker
Pranam Swamiji. You are a gift from God. Thank you very much for your enlightening wisdom. Listening to you is like listening to my heart's deep truth. You are helping me to see my life differently.
Unbelievably wonderful lecture.
So beautiful and inspirational...... Thank you..... Swamiji..
Origan..... Very currect... Man as trichotomic being...
I honestly believe that when I was a young person and I prayed very hard to see the face of Jesus that bit by bit He led me to Bhagavan Sri Ramana Maharshi as if to say " this is what it is like when God becomes incarnate ". Now by ' chance ' Sri Ramana had some Christian education and was able to pick out significant sayings from the Bible particularly those that mention the ' I Am ' concept , and that The Kingdom of Heaven is within you ( Luke 17 Vs 21). For Easter Sri Ramana said that " the crucifixion represents the death of the ego and the Resurrection of the Self ". This Swami represents the beautiful inclusiveness of Vedanta . A great Blessing indeed 🙏✝️🕉️
How shameless you are. The Missionaries who in the name of christ killed millions of Hindus in India. In fact humanity should be ashamed of this. I petty for my tradition whose inclusiveness idea of oneness and seeing God in all beings have open the path of adharma. Just have a introspection about it and you'll find God is regretful for unable to save mankind.
Stay away from Hinduism.
@@ashishgurung2897 peace to you friend 🕊️. I am no great friend of anyone in any evangelical movement due to their rigid and bigoted views . How Blessed Bharat is to have one such as Bhagavan Sri Ramana Maharshi all upon its sacred soil 🕉️
@@michaeldillon3113 No my dear brother, the one immortal bliss that shines inside you is the same that shines inside me. You are that divine and holy as Ramana Maharishi, the great philosopher of advaita vedanta. So no one's is unfortunate or fortunate. Don't go for Ramana Maharishi, be greater than him.He attained God for himself its time for you to attain your God for yourself.
Look God is tricky he likes to play and he is indeed playing, but as a soul i am stuck inside this body and mind. I need to suffer and I am suffering for my beloved Hindus who were slaughtered just because they worshipped idols. Around 80 millions of innocent Hindus have been slaughtered. So as a mind and body I need to fight God who is no different than me or you. But again as a mind and a body I need to suffer.
No offence for anyone, I pray you will realise that immortal which is your very essential nature.

@@michaeldillon3113 You are a genuine seeker buddy. I pray the forces of Cosmos that you will hit that jackpot and realise that supreme being which is meant to be realised by the mankind. Jesus hit that jackpot, Swami Vivekananda hit,Bhagwan Ramana Maharishi hit and many more souls are there living as normal hit that jackpot. God bless you my dear brother.
So Swamiji is well-versed in _all_ major religions.
This was a good lecture, but I was particularly impressed with the level of detail (and, of course the depth of his knowledge) in his lecture on Shunyavaada Buddhism.
he never talks about the barbaric and unscientific aspects of these abrahmic religions , they will call you Kafir and Infidel no matter how spiritual you are. search more and you will find that swamiji is so selective that it falls in the category of fooling someone.
according to the quran and bible even swami vivekananda will go to eternal hell , there can be no reconciliation who truly believe in their books. you are to subdued / humiliated and converted and if not then ultimately killed if you resist . this is the truth of their religion. read Understanding Muhammad by Ali Sina( free download ) .
@@Nishant_1313 First of All Jesus was a Myth and it was an adaptation of Local story of Orpheaus Bacchus , as cultural appropriation was very common to Christianity to convert Pagans , in the beginning they were worshiping Jehovah but when they came to know about story of Orpheaus Bacchus they made him son of god to attract pagans.
@@Nishant_1313 so much misinterpretation ..Christian take on hell is more nuanced than that in my understanding. The only people who will be in hell are those who choose to go there. And hell as most Christian theologians will say is the state of separation from God, it is not a place as pictured in hollywood movies. And heaven is the state of ecstatic union with God, when we will finally see the hidden God face to face. This will be more clear if you read the writings of philospher and mystic, St. Augustine who lived in the fourth century A.D and who is considered the father of Christian thought. Yes Christians claim that they have the supreme eternal truth but that is the case in every religion on earth. There are few who claim that every follower of non-Christian religion will not be saved but that is a minority view, even the official catholic position is contrary to that. In the official catholic position, the truth and goodness hidden in all religions is acknowledged because every good and true thing comes from God.
Pranam from my heart and was worried about you good to see you back discoursing.

Thank you for this wonderful insight. 😊🙏🏼❤️
As always it's a blessing to hear Swamiji talk. in the story of Moses and the burning bush the word in Hebrew (the original language of the Bible) for "your shoes" is "Naaleykha" and this word also means "your locks", Jewish mystics do Interpret that as "remove all that is locking you" (or limiting/bounding you) before you approach God, it's wonderful to see practicality the same profound understanding shine through different traditions.
First of All Jesus was a Myth and it was an adaptation of Local story of Orpheaus Bacchus , as cultural appropriation was very common to Christianity to convert Pagans , in the beginning they were worshiping Jehovah but when they came to know about story of Orpheaus Bacchus they made him son of god to attract pagans.

Thanks so much , new and enriching info 🙏🙏
Great devotional talk. Thank you 😊 💓.
do you believe swamiji will go to heaven according to the bible and the gospels? he speaks of being one with one as his true nature - do you accept that he is one with jesus/holy ghost/ GOD. he also speaks of non permanent heaven/hell and no original sin or infact swami vivekananda went as far as to say there is no sin in absolute terms. do you believe in the testaments ( complete opposite philosophy to advaita vedanta) where time is linear. WHAT gods did your forefathers pray to( will they be condemned to hell too)..
@@Nishant_1313 Its rather difficult to answer, given the lack of consensus within Christianity, itself, regarding who or which sects will enjoy the eternal bliss of redemption and who will be casted into hellfire.
@@Nishant_1313 Is this question open for anyone to answer? If so, my opinion is YES, Swamiji may very well reside in eternal bliss or peace with Christ in the Paradise of which he is Lord and holds the key. But, forgive me, it sounds a little bit funny to me because of course it does not matter in one little bit what I, or any Christian sect, or anybody, thinks because we are not the judge or the redeemer. As I can read, it is through God’s gift of grace through faith and not earned of any works that saves. What can I say to that?
@@LL-sk8gi what if someone doesnot want to live in paradise ? what if his/her wish is for something else. why do the abrahmic religions force their version of paradise/ ultimate reality on all people. do you believe in the new testament?
@@Nishant_1313 Hi! I think the only question I am fit to answer is your last question. I have read (and also follow to a certain extent) the writings and/or teachings included in the New Testament, but I don’t call myself a Christian - just a lover of Christ.
Yes, I am inclined to believe that Jesus walked this earth as stated, and I like to believe I have some kind of sense as to what kind of person he was/is. Do I believe the testimony of his apostles etc? I have no reason not to, unless some major changes were made or left out during translation and/or accumulation of the works. Now I am reading some of the writings that were not included in the New Testament. Do I believe the message within? I am inclined to say yes (yet within the framework of nondualism - will I be condemned to all eternity in hell for this? I believe no)! Do I believe an eternal hell? No. I believe that Jesus was a man both revered and condemned by the world and the worldly; so, I am not sure that Jesus by another name would not also be condemned by the institutions raised in his name.
BUT I do have people very close to me who do take literally and seriously the printed word of the Bible. I have not discussed the details of Advaita Vedanta with them … YET. From your request, I am now very curious to ask them what you asked, and if I do, I will update you as to what their response is!! 😊
And not to belabor the point, but I did just see a beautiful quote that I found when I just searched out Christian nondualism. This quote is by a Catholic priest named Romano Guardini that pretty much sums up much of my ongoing experience and belief (I hope I am copying the quote correctly AND that I am not being redundant). The quote is : “… although I am not God, I am not other than God either. And although I am not any of you, I am not other than any of you either. And although I am not the Earth, I’m not other than the Earth either.”
Maybe having an overwhelming and ingrained fear of God plus a twisted message from the church and mind is the reason for forceful imposition of one’s beliefs over others - but that is not love of or unity with God (or creation for that matter) imo - that is need for power and control and fear and domination and other stuff that is in and of the world (imo). Ok, wordy response. Take care.

This lecture corroborated somehow that I'm on the right way, on reading the poems of George Herbert I came across St. Therese of Avila. She fascinated with the last chapters of her autobiography. She influenced so many English metaphysical poets. I want to pursue research on such texts. But in India there is hardly any scope. What to do?
You can go on your own my friend
St. Theresa of Avila is a catholic mystic . There are many others like St. John of the Cross, St. Augustine, Brother Lawrence, St. Bernad of Clairvaux etc. In the 20th century we had St. Padre Pio. Many of them bore stigmata (real wounds of christ on body) in their lives and had experiences of transverberation, union of love with God. If you are interested, you can read their books which are readily available online. Thanks

Holding on to sadness is the sign of tamas
I do not follow any meditation technique, but have developed extreme faith in the supreme based on my life experiences. I follow your videos . I have experienced a bodiless state a couple of times while trying to sleep( although was not sleepy at all) .I got terrified( coz I don't know y I experience this ) and opened my eyes and all body sensation came back. Although the state was so blissful and there was absolute shutdown of mind. Please whoever can answer this 🙏
I've had one similar experience when I was much younger and for many years I've been wondering the same. But then I began my spiritual path about 2 years ago and through meditation the answer to that question became clear. Best answer I can give you is choose a yogi tradition (any will do) learn their techniques and you'll see the answer yourself... as Buddha stated in his first teachings, " The ultimate truth cannot be taught it has to be experienced ".
May God bless your soul with ever lasting peace and happiness 🙏🏼

22:02 this is what distinguishes Evagrius from mass religion. It's not bad: whom will you have to solve your problems except God? It's because God has planned it that way, He doesnt want us to stay here. Hahahaha. Yes. This world is a bridge, pass over it dont stay here. Dont build a house here. God will make it uncomfortable till you learn your lesson. No problem, go to God with your problems and get some consolation. But go to God for God! Go for God! Pray for God! Sweet is his name, love Him! Keep your shoes outside the temple.
