- Passenger Trains 1990s! Classic passenger trains of the early 1990s included Amtrak, Colorado's Winter Park Ski Train, and a Union Pacific steam excursion train. Featured Amtrak trains included the "City of New Orleans," the "Illini," the "Crescent," the "Sunset Limited," and the "California Zephyr." The Union Pacific's Challenger-class steam engine hauled the Rocky Mountain Railroad Club's "40th Anniversary Special," on May 15, 1993. The special operated from Denver, Colorado, to Cheyenne, Wyoming, over UP's Denver Pacific line, and between Cheyenne and Laramie, Wyoming, on UP's Overland Route. Note that the Challenger, number 3985, had been renumbered to UP 3967 in honor of the Club's first steam excursion event in 1953. This special excursion train departed Denver Union Station, on time, at 7am.

7:42 That Sunset Limited Train had suffered a derailment in 1995
...and a really bad one in 1993 that dropped cars in the water. It's truly shocking!

That was the worst derailment of amtrak history
I wish trains like this were still around today trains aren't as good as they were in the day and I wasn't born yet when this happend

Some excellent shots here, I love the old Amtrak colours. Challenger was neat to see too. Wish Amtrak had kept more dome cars, we’ve still got a few up on Via and they’re the only thing that makes long coach trips bearable!

5:26 did that Amtrak F40PH had a raised letter train horn? It almost sounded like it, or was it fouled

Leonardo Viramontes Raised letter K5LA's did not exist at the time these videos were taken. The raised letters were first created in 2006. It was likely a fouled first generation K5LA.

Hello walt, i have a question for you. Do the EMD E-9 still in service? I never found out if they are still in service or no
Museum railroads may or may not have a unit or two in operating condition. I don't think there are any in revenue commuter service since 1992 when Chicago Metra retired theirs. Union Pacific has nos. 949 and 951 for executive business train use.
