Hands down, one of today's finest tenors. So many great qualities
of the legends of yesteryear. He pours so much passion onto his
art. The results are mesmerizing & thrilling - IMO.
I don;t know what to say, Jonas has the most beautiful voice I have ever hear, he give me the chills, and tears come to my eyes.

I read several of the comments below and fear there is a slight bit of nit-picking going on. Surely the prime aim of any true artiste is to touch the heart, which means an immediate power to communicate, in either acting, dancing, painting etc., or in this case singing. Jonas Kaufmann does this - in spades - and I for one am very happy!

The vocal production is as throaty as it's guttural, with distinctive
register breaks. Notes off the stave are squeezed out without any
build-up and in many sequence smudged. Legato is as abundant as rainfall
in Sahara. Stylistically, he's all over the place in addition to the
fact that he is channeling his inner Renee Fleming in that every word,
every sentence is fussed and tweaked to the extent that any sense of
spontaneity is lost. Those comparison to the legendary Jon Vickers by
certain so-called critics is simply preposterous. The Canadian's voice
is naturally produced and is employed with the greatest artistry,
whereas the voice of "the most gorgeous thing on the lyric stage today"
(so claimed by thousands and thousands of queens around the globe) is
weirdly produced, sounding synthetic and grating.
OMG....must be wonderful to be so self appointed knowledgeable !

i love Jonas Kaufmann so what I am saying is not really about him, but the cd as a whole. It is kind of disappointing that his Wagner cd was so spectacular and this is sort of perfunctory rendering of Verdi. Theorchestra, conductor, photos, video all should have been more spectacular. I felt like I was watching an 80s Ragu commercial

E' divertente leggere quello che scrivono gli "intenditori" su Kaufmann ! Ce ne fossero in giro di cantanti così scandalosi e che non sanno cantare o che hanno problemi di appoggio! Noi ci teniamo questi voi andate ad ascoltare gli altri!

A perfect microphone voice with his throaty and pressed production ! He talks a good talk ,but it's all a smoke screen for lack of correct vocal production . He really knows how to fool the public ! He is handsome , but the voice must come first . Someone has led the man down the wrong path , there is more to his sound and overtones that don't have a chance to come out with his pressed and neck production . In the opera house the voice does not carry pass the fifth roll where I sit at the Met !

Very charming character, but that doesn't disguise the fact were he active in the fifties he would be assigned the comprimario roles.

Kaufmann è un lirico (al limite lirico spinto): ma non assolutamente un leggero ! Sorry! poi che certi suoni siano "poco chiari"..ok...ma se fosse ingolato non potrebbe certo salire sugli acuti che sono invece in posizione corretta.Io l'ho sentito dal vivo diverse volte..ed è vero che "ingoffa " un po' alcuni suoni...ma godiamoci un po' di Verdi dopo tutto sto Wagner che canta! I vocalizzi sono solo x ridere !!
Kaufmann's ascent to the top is indicative of a dearth of satisfactory
tenors on the international classical music circuit. Voice alone, he
would be assigned comprimario roles were he active in the fifties.
Seeing that Mexican clown is throwing in the towel after repeated throat
surgeries, the establishment tries to do it all over again by
manufacturing another superstar tenor, one who's only capable of singing
extremely awfully but is marketable with the bearing of a matinee idol.
One who's ruthlessly ambitious and willing to place utmost priority on
reaching the top over everything, including the attainment of art, one
who's well versed in the art of prostituting art but cares little, and
probably knows nothing, about art. Of course, the establishment includes
big time impresarios, opera house directors, international recording
companies and critics affiliated with mass media conglomerate. He also
needs to have a personality that's as affable as it's weird. Weird
because he has to understand the fine art of boot-licking and abusing
the hand (the fans) that feeds him in the same time. Then, a star or,
more accurately, a pseudo opera singer is born.
Kaufmann's groupie and that Mexican clown's are probably the most
wretched people in the world because they choose a fate that's more
abhorrent than reveling in drenching themselves in a tub composed of
toxins and human secretion (the unsavory kind): they choose to steep
themselves in self-abasement and hideousness.
But how do you really feel?

Le baryton qui chante ...un vrai massacre ...il me fait mal aux oreilles... à mon avis ,à forcer de faire des efforts colossaux pour arriver à chanter le répertoire ténor ,il va se casser la voix ,bien comme il faut...un désastre !

This man has a very good voice and has very interesting musical ideas, but he is completetly INGOLATTO, we can see this very clearly when he vocalizes. He is a tenore leggiero and obviously he has not the voice to sing Otello. Sorry.
