    Stephen, you've been an inspiration to me and so many other young/aspiring fighters and martial artists. You exemplify all the traits we strive to have. You're an incredible representative of the art of Karate. You're a wonderful person. You're a world class, elite fighter, one of the best to ever do it. Man you have to be the greatest martial artist in the modern era.
    -Traditional background that is still present into your MMA style
    -Literally flawless technique in every strike I've ever seen you throw
    -Fight IQ like Stephen Hawking
    -You're incredibly respectful and you remain humble, even after all that you've accomplished
    -In my opinion you have the most entertaining style of striking that a person could implement in MMA
    -Plus you're cute
    I hope you live a long, fruitfull, and fulfilling life. You deserve it for how much of an impact you've made on the world 💛

    Something else that will help explosive hip rotation & foot pivoting whilst keeping the body loose is golf or baseball,
    both can be done solo at a driving range or batting cage,
    a baseball bat especially will help with explosive strength.

    Hey Oneder Boi, How about you surprise Ur opponents by sometimes to confuse or ditter em by suddenly switching to muay Thai stance to quickly kick em straight to the face like the one Anderson to Belfort and at times straight push kick but don't let em catch it. Really quick head kick coming off of a punch etc.
    At times also throw a big punch like that of Johnny Hendricks, Dan Henderson or even Tyson. But just throw 2 or at the most 3 big punches per round mixed with Ur usual great stuff. U can also throw a big one and get out of the way or Throw a big one get out of the way and change angle or pivot and throw another big punch. If u think of throwing 2 or 3 punches from the same place, same stance than roll or slip Ur head or get Ur head out of the line of fire and throw another big punch and get out of the way. This will ditter their aggression and slow down Ur opponents forward march and they will start respecting Ur hands too. So, now Ur opponents will have two things to worry about: Leg kicks as usual and occasional big punches combined with Ur stick n move style.

    Hey Stephen, I was wondering if you could discuss a karate technique that seems to have been forgotten or overlooked - the backfist (not the spinning version to be clear). Why do you hardly ever see it used in MMA? I've personally used it on the street to knock out a mugger. It's extremely powerful when done right. Is it not considered effective for self defense (or MMA)? Because my personal experience would beg to differ. I would appreciate your professional opinion on the matter, maybe even a video! Thanks. Big fan here. - Rob

    • @Yuorai
      @Yuorai 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Not a pro fighter, but from my very limited experience in mma the only problem with the backfist is that it is too easy to read. But who knows, if you try hard enough maybe you can perfect it, afterall anything works in mma as long as you win

    • @michaelcoyle9507
      @michaelcoyle9507 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The closest you'll get is a blend between a back fist and a snap jab. As said above it is easy to read at higher levels of combat sports. I've seen it a few times in the regional scene but not so much in UFC and Bellator. One last thing to keep in mind that as far as Karate Practitioners go the highest level fighters we've seen is Machida and Wonderboy who are more known for their evasion skills and lethal kicks from expertly created angles.

    • @robertb755
      @robertb755 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Yuorai I agree on the backfist being generally easier to read, but perhaps some feinting with regular jabs or other misdirection could set it up. The element of surprise is key. Then again, perhaps it is more effective against an average street punk vs an elite fighter.

      Wrist weights are good for endurance, but because you aren’t pushing the weight it isn’t building power. The muscles used for punching power are in the legs, hips, back, shoulders, and chest. Wrist weights only use shoulders (and back a little).
