lol...it wud be funny as hell. i strongly believe ukitake will lose. everytime nel bounces it back, she's gonna keep adding her reatsu to the cero. Ukitake simply does not bounce, he absorbs it, manipulates it and den sends it back. Ukitake is surely a reatsu tank himself...but is gonna reach his limit soon, given his weak physical constitution.
I always wondered why Orihime didn't use her healing power on Nell's headwound. She restored Grimjaw's arm, so we know her power works on arrancar. Kubo gave her a bracelet instead. I think Orihime healing Nell would have been more interesting than a piece of jewelry/mcguffin.

Would have been an actual useful and strong female character there too, Rukia is relatively strong but not that useful, Orihime is useful but weak even though they(Kubo) tried to act like she was on par with a vice-captain before Aizen kidnapped her.

Nel and Harribel are actually very similar regarding their high positions in the Arrancar and their compassion for their teammates in general. I kinda like the matriarchal approach Kubo has in establishing postwar Hueco Mundo overall.

I actually think Nel would have defeated Nnoitora even if their fight was more drawn out. I don't remember Nnoitora getting that much more powerful after his resureccion and Nel is definitely more level headed.
Nel either would have gotten weaker due to being a child, not training, and not using her powers for a long time while Nnoitra continually got stronger.

Exactly my babe slammed him. She hadnt fought in years and just went from a child to adult in how many years? Nnoitra fights constantly and Nel just transformed back after a long time so she isnt gonna be used to her body and itll take a few hours to fully adapt again to fighting
I think Kenpachi is the one that fights and finishes of Nnoitra because they're foils of each other. They both enjoy a good but while Nnoitra is willing to use cheap tactics to win and will kill his enemies even if they are already down, Kenpachi fights fair and when you're down, he'll give you the chance to get up and come back stronger. Also, their feelings on strong women with Nnoitra despising Nel and Halibel because they are women who are stronger than him while Unohana is the one person Kenpachi admired the most. So I definitely say it was more than Kubo just using Kenpachi to save Ichigo, Kenpachi and Nnoitra are foils. But I understand wanting Nel and Nnoitra to have a more satisfying conclusion
With the development of Nel in Can’t Fear Your Own World being established, it is very possible for another battle against Nnoitra in the new Hell Arc. The one Nel and Nnoitra deserves.
She reverts back to normal, because it goes with the dementia theme. When she does remember her memories it also let’s her gain back her inception. I believe her resurreccion is like a one hit kill like Soi-Feng’s bankai and their desings are relatively that of a knight. However, Nelliel’s own is less double-edge, because she can still be on the defensive if her attack fails.
I personally love the interpretation of Nell actually being really prideful in her strength and her more human intelligence/instincts even to the point of being egotistical. (It makes her a bit more interesting)
Nel really was my favorite Character in bleach and I was extremely disappointed that she didn’t get more time. I think she was just as good of a character as any of the main characters
The worst part about nels character is that she never got a redemption. Great story, one of the most lovable character and kubo left her hanging. I think it's for the best she lost against noitora it showed how much of a dog eat dog world wakomundo is but she should have gotten a moment
I realize Ichigo was busy at the time (Orihime gets re-kidnapped and Ichigo has to fight Ulquiorra) but I was always annoyed that Nel was left in the desert (or that she didn't manage to latch onto Ichigo as he was running). Some might disagree, but all things considered, I'd like to think that Nel would have been a great help against Ulquiorra. Even assuming she never transformed, her getting seriously hurt or even killed should have triggered something in Ichigo. Nobody says it often and it's easy to overlook, but at the end of the day, Ichigo is an older brother to twin sisters. You cannot simply attack a little girl in front of him, and not expect him to murder you. You can debate whether it would trigger the exact same reaction that Orihime did (and that was just her voice, imagine if she'd been mortally wounded), but I don't see any way that sort of thing would go unpunished, even if there's no breath left in Ichigo at the time (which there wasn't).
She's one of my favorite characters, but i do get a chuckle when i hear people imply that she's a totally good character. She has a condescending and arrogant aspect to her personality but it tends to get covered up with her pacifist nature. Even Heribel who she is compared to doesn't seem to have that arrogance and condescending trait and she could very well be stronger than nel. Nell herself has show that she can be rather stubborn especially to people she sees as weaker than herself like when she wasn't willing to listen to grimmjow because she was once higher rank than him
Nelliel is a mix of Ichigo and Orihime (could well be his daughter lol). She is sweet, motherly, naive, and childlike like Orihime but stubborn, reckless, and rude like Ichigo. However, in the novels where they deepen the Harribel / Nelliel / Grimmjow dynamic it is shown that Grimmjow is more inclined to initiate conversations and arguments with Nelliel (as well as Ichigo) than with Harribel. Nelliel, even though she annoys him, openly cares for him (being the only one who comes close to check on his condition when he was injured) and she sees him more as a partner than an enemy. Harribel is neutral towards Grimmjow because she does not trust his destructive nature, she fears that sooner or later he will want to fight for his command position in the hollow world. The Harribel thing is not respect, but distrust and caution. Nel doesn't look down on him, she tries to curb her reckless and destructive nature by trying to be more dominating (because Grimmjow doesn't listen the easy way). Nelliel may be the only one who cares if Grimmjow acts recklessly and gets himself killed, while Harribel will stand aside and let Nelliel take the initiative to deal with Grimmjow. Seeing the treatment he has with both, he seems to lean more to the trustworthy treatment that Nel has towards him, than to the distrust of Harribel.
Me too. Anime uses an annoying plot device which robs victories from characters with time limited transformation by making them revert right before they deal a lethal blow. Nel losing to Nnoitra after he releases would’ve definitely been a better ending. It makes sense since her signature technique and released ultimate only dealt minor damage (she even knows he can survive the lance attack twice in base even after taking Cero Doble). Nnoitra is fully recovered after releasing, Nel can’t really touch him (maybe somewhat tank his blows depending on her level of Hierro), and she eventually reverts back into a kid after being overwhelmed. He pummels her like before and everything goes the same except there’s no Kenpachi vs Nnoitra warmup (cuz good grief the latter already had enough exposure in base).

At best its only been a few months since nell was turned into a kid, and she outranked him. Idk.. I chalk it up to a shonen anime being a shonen anime again.
@@captainplaceholder4482 Exactly! Realistically speaking released Nel should’ve the same advantage against released Nnoitra that she did against his base. She’s much faster and could clearly stand up to his Hierro. Alternative fight is Nnoitra releasing after getting hit by Cero Doble which causes more much visible damage than before. In their released forms Nel lands one lance attack which causes several of Nnoitra’s arms to come off. After he regenerates they fight some more. Regeneration takes its toll and Nnoitra only has melee attacks which is a big disadvantage against her Hierro piercing ranged attack. She nearly completes a second lance attack to end the fight, but in typical anime fashion her transformation suddenly runs out and she turns back into a child. This version would at least solve the glaring power scaling issue.

21:00 Nnoi and Nel, served as development for Arrancar, and Hollows, as a whole. Backstory is for exposition. Which is WHY, not all characters have them. They only get them, when Kubo needs to fill in the blanks. Most of expository dialogues, takes place during fights, and/or flashbacks. There wasn't any resolution, because that wasn't, the point, or their purpose. Nnoi wanted to "die standing", because mantis die, on their feet, during mating. Zaraki's purpose is to show Nnoi, what a "REAL MAN" is. Nnoi's idea of strength, is beating on women. Killing those, who are WEAKER, or weakened. Zaraki is the MANLIEST man, in Bleach. But he doesn't prey on the weak, and he looks up, to strong women. He showed Nnoi, that He was nothing but, a little BITCH. It's quite poetic ....God I fucking LOVE Kubo! People really don't get his genius
Which is why I kinda wish Kenpachi got to watch the later stages of their battle (if Nnoitra released which I definitely wish he did) and think “Why are these Espada fighting each other?” after saving an injured Ichigo from a released Tesra like before. He grins and says he’ll fight the winner. Yachiru says he can take them at the same time and Ichigo comically explains that Nel is on their side. Kenpachi admires her strength. Once Nel loses he blocks Nnoitra’s killing blow and explains his code of honor while also hoping to fight her himself someday.
Gotta be honest here: At first Nel felt so off i thought she was a filler character. And i felt that way for a good while. Her getting an adult form i did not immediately change that image for me. But Bleach has a weird relationship with filler anyways. The Bount arc for example, it felt sooooo right, more so then actual other non filler arcs. It felt way better then the fullbring stuff, that really felt like a retcon to explain Orihime's and Chad's abilities.

Becoming a Hollow isn't dependent upon what kind of person you were in life. It's all a matter of a soul being consumed by negative feelings or not being purified by a Shinigami. Orihime's brother Sora was a kind person, but his obsession with protecting Orihime after death warped into possessiveness and triggered his transformation into a Hollow. In life, Nelliel was likely very similar to how she is as an Arrancar. It's the circumstances that kicked off her Hollowfication that's the real mystery.
Thank you for pointing out that Notirra is sexist. I don't know how many times I had to point this out and so many fans jump at me dismissing this claim and saying that Nel was the antagonizer and he did nothing wrong. And while I don't doubt that Nel did antagonize him, I did notice how much of a problem he had with the female arrancar so I assumed that Nel was only following him to annoy him as much as he was annoying them. Pretty much bullying him back after he started bullying them.
Nel wasn’t following him to bully him she was protecting a weaker comrade who was reckless and would’ve gotten him self killed. She could have left him to die but it not in her heart. Like Ichigo who fight to protect Nel follow the same ideology hints why she love Ichigo cuz he protected her instead of just fighting to prove one own strength like Nnoitora.

My mom loved Nel so much, she didn't like manga much, but loved the anime. My mom was looking forward to the new Bleach anime continuation. But she passed away in July- so she didn't make it. Ichigo, Nel, Rukia, Orihime, Yachiro, Yoroichi, Kenpachi, Matsumoto, Hitsugya, Urahara and a bunch of others were characters she really loved in Bleach. I can't express how shocked I was, when I was 16, we caught up to what was dubbed in this section of the anime and my mom insisted we switch to the sub (because the dub was so slow and we watched so much anime, we watched too quickly to just stick with the English dub), even though we had only been watching dubbed until then.
I still think Dondochakka and Pesche are really underrated characters. They follow Nel without hesitate even when Nnoitra slashed their masks because of her and even when she turned into a child and was kicked out of Las Noches, forcing the two to play dumb and teach her every basic thing about surviving in a horrible enviroment like Hueco Mundo without becoming a terrible monster. In the flashbacks we can see they're not that dumb like they chose to show in the hueco mundo invasion arc, they need to be like that because, well, they need to take care of a arrancar child who has no memory that she used to be the 3rd espada and their superior. The way they handle every life and death situation in the arc without showing their powers and still being calm and still playing dumb for the other hollows, Nel and Ichigo's gang is amazing. The invasion arc brought a lot of world class characters like Ulquiorra, Nnoitra and Yammy, but for me Dondochakka and Pesche are the real MVP in character development.

On the point of Kenpachi being unrelated to the fight, I think it fits the trend of the captains fighting hollows similar to them. Kenpachi and Nnoitora are bloodthirsty monsters, Mayuri and Szayel are both crazed scientists, and Byakuya and Zommari are both stoic (at least at first) and heavily support their society's foundation, (Aizen and the law)
Huh you’re right- Stark and Shunsui are both laid back but super powerful, Halibel and Toshiro have similar zanpakuto, and Barraggan and Sui Feng are both really arrogant i guess? Yamamoto should have fought Barraggan as they are both the old leaders
@@cian239 I think Unahana would have been a better matchup. Her Bankai has a similar ability to erode enemies, and she is from the first generation of Captains and since she was the 11th, she was probably one of the last recruited. Like Barragon appears to be for the Espada.
@@corruptangel6793 I'm pretty sure Barragan was the first recruited given the fact that he was there before las noches was actually built. If it's not Barragan it's Grimmjow, Grimmjow's fraccion are have the lowest numbers, meaning they were created before the rest of them and Barragan's are numbered directly after them and those failures guarding the place Ichigo, Sado, and Uuryu entered from.
She really needed more screen time. All she ended up doing in the final arc was swooping in and save Urahara and company from Askin’s technique. Even in the Hueco Mundo arc, she could’ve popped up again to help with taking out Yammy or something. Another excellent Waifu shafted by Kubo.
Part of me thinks that Nel treated Nnoitera as her child, the constant scoldings, the discipline, and even when he did something wrong, (lolifying her) she didnt proceed to kill him in hopes of him finally learning the error of his ways.
Thats one of the biggest problems of that ark, too many characters and only few get a good amount of screen time. Arrancars barely get anything, Visords are just fodder, most vice captains also fodder, fullbringers do something for the plot and thats it. The character I personally missed the most in tybw is white or Zangetsu, because I really feel Kubo missed an opportunity with his interactions with Ichigo after the truth was revealed.
@@proxyx3557 I dont disagree completely there, I believe that's one of Kubo's flaws. He introduces more characters than he can expand upon to move the plot and it leaves liked characters like Nel a bit abandoned. Once these characters move the plot they disappear, so another set does the same (Vizards and Nel being good examples). My other issue was the power scaling for popular characters like byakuya and kanpachi, who both seemed to do better than ichigo in the ark, when he previously bested them both. All that packed with the lack of depth given to certain characters is what I feel are Kubos mistakes (And of course the sad sad Zero squad...).
@@JP-yy3hy I agree with you on the first part , there were so many characters who didn't get enough screentime but I think we feel like that only because a lot of the characters in Bleach were interesting, because realistically speaking there is no way you could give that many characters screentime without the series becoming 900+ chapter. As for your point about the powerscaIing I think you are wrong , because in both cases ;Kenpachi and Byakuya, Ichigo wasn't stronger than them when he beat them, In Kenpachi's case Ichigo won because Kenpachi has the habit of slowly matching his reiatsu to match his opponent, so when Ichigo got a sudden burst of power from zangetsu, Kenpachi couldn't keep up in time, you can even see the same thing happening to a certain extent against Nnoitra, as for Byakuya, Ichigo Only won thanks to White taking control and that was when he dealt the most damage to Byakuya, before that he was losing badly and about to die, so in the arrancar arc it wasn't that Kenpachi and Byakuya who got stronger , it was Ichigo who reached the level he was in when he fought Byakuya.

I personally dont like ichigo's character regardless, he has many strengths of course , but his personality gets boring to me, and I just take intrest in the other characters in bleach. @@JP-yy3hy Me on the other hand think that Ichigo is a very good protagonist , better than most other shounen MC IMO , its just that there are so many complex and interesting characters that they overshadow him sometimes.
What makes Nel awesome is that, like her successor as tercera she's deadly skilled and powerful yet she never let it go to her head, only wanting peace and being morally opposed to bloodshed. Her fun loving side only adds to it while balancing out Harribel's stoic shyness. They are perfect for ruling post blood war Hueco Mundo with their beyond ressureccion adding to their badass security alongside their Fracciones.
The comment about 'inverse to soul society arc' got me thinking... 1. Ichigo invades Soul Society while improving his shinigami powers. 2. Ichigo invades Hueco Mundo while evolving his hollow powers. 3. Ichigo 'invades' a part of the human world while unlocking his fullbringer powers. 4. Ichigo is invaded by the Wandenreich and realizes his quincy powers. Neat structure!
Nel is basically this arc's Hanataro: a guide from the enemy faction that saves his life. Hanataro through his healing and Nel through her battle with Nnoitra.
@@corruptangel6793 Except Hanatoro betrayed his faction while Nel's wasn't really a part of "her faction" anymore, she was throw out by a weak leader of her faction because he was envious and Aizen did dick all about it even though he claimed he gathered them because he wanted powerful allies(tools that he could throw away whenever on his way to destroy the world).
@@lilchristuten7568 I didn't even take that into account. That's right, as a member of the previous generation and a exile so to speak, that does sound more and more like Yaruichi. And, having just re-read the SS arc, she also saves Ichigo which I forgot about. As for Aizen being hypocritical, he was very similar to Stark in his loneliness and desire to have those he could consider equals. Main difference being that while Stark was happy just to have people able to be around him, Aizen wanted to find someone strong enough to understand him. Something Ichigo managed to achieve in the end. Point is, Aizen didn't care about Nel for the same reason he didn't about any of them: They didn't reach his standard of "powerful" and so to him they were as worthless as the Vizards. In other words, they were just disposable failed experiments. "Even the strongest of you failed to meet my lowest expectations."

Because (I think) Aizen figured that if she's so weak that she could be ambushed and taken out by someone as low level as Nnoitra, then she wasn't worth the effort of carring about. I mean, he even says that Stark was a disappointment and failed to meet even his lowest expectations.
I think she's attached to Ichigo because he protected her and she wants to be ridden to pound town. She's not shy about hiding her intentions to the point of showing Orihime she plans to take him without any worry about her.

Honestly, with the upcoming hell arc, I would LOVE to see Nel and her fraction being active members of Ichigo and Orihime's family's life's. Like a scene where they are just bullshitting at a group family dinner chatting casually. Especially having Kirin and Yuzu asking Nel questions about her life as a hollow/arancar in hueco Mundo. I think that would be super freaking cool.
Tbh I do believe that if the fight between Nelliel and Nnoitora had no stop, she would have won. It was sure as hell a surprise for Nnoitora to see her transformed back into a full grown woman, but he had time to rationalize and prepare for it; she didn't immediately attack. Throughout the entire clash, Nel was visibly superior and, although it seems as though Nnoitora has not suffered serious injuries, we have to remember that he has the strongest Hierro AND Nelliel wasn't trying to kill him. Idk that's just me
I don't think she could have won. Nnoitra wasn't even in his Resurrection and she couldn't really injure him in hers. I think that since she didn't grow stronger, and as Nnoitra said the current Espada are stronger than they were in her day, I'd say she dropped a couple ranks powerscaling wise. I honestly think Nel and Nnoitra were more or less equal (both 5th rank in terms of power) and that's why she could pummel him but was unable to break his Hierro.

@@corruptangel6793 of you look in the manga and in the anime nel was the first person to slice through his chest effortlessly in her base form, as well as he wasnt able to keep up with her speed at all, i definitely think had she not transformed back into a child she wouldve made quick work of him like she said, otherwise why else would she have been drawn clearly overpowering him the entire fight without showing how strong he’s become since their last encounter
I would hope we get a mini series that dives into Hueco Mundo after the blood war and Tokinada troubles. Would be great to catch up with Nel,Harribel and both their respective Fracciones alongside an apparently reforming Grimmjow. They've been making things better for that world and that deserves a spotlight.
The timeline of the Espada always seemed to confuse me... It was never implied, but it seemed like Aizen/Gin/Tousen went to and from Hueco Mundo gathering the espada for almost 50 years or so. To have "fallen" espada... and espada being re-ranked and such seemed like it was over a long period of time.... For instance, when Aizen fooled Barragan, it was at an earlier stage when Aizen was still in SS as a captain, but Gin and Tousen were already a captains as well, but when Aizen recruited Stark, Aizen had already defected to Hueco Mundo as his appearance was after his evil reveal. I always wondered how Aizen pulled that off while being a Gotei Captain.
Trust me when I say this, it’s HORRIBLY bad! There’s just too little information that it’s incredibly hard to map out the Espada timeline, I’ve tried and only have guesses on how the timeline could’ve of went but since we don’t don’t know who the original 10 Espada were, besides Aaroniero, it’s a major pain in the ass to figure out at which time did Aizen recruit who. Fracciones help to narrow it down a bit but since Yammy, Ulquiorra, and Zommari don’t have any the time of their recruitments are completely unknown, and then Yammy himself screws us over in further cause he says he is the 0 Espada and it’s truly ranked between 0-9, which then makes it more confusing how the Espada’s timeline even works if that is how they’re meant to be truly ranked! It’s just a nightmare trying to figure this out! TwT Starrk’s time of recruitment insanely helps because it means he was the last Espada recruited so for a good majority of time Barragan was 1 and Harribel was 2 and so on before Starrk joined. How Aizen pulled this off; he just uses his Kyoka Sugestu and no one is the wiser when he makes the trips to Hueco Mundo.
@@omnimon1996 The originals 9 Espada were Baragon, Nel, the Preveron Espada, Nnoitra, Aaroniero, probably Ulquiorra, and Szyal who was the original 0 Espada at the time (according to the lightnovels I think. Might have been one of the data books). Not that their rankings have anything to do with the recruitment timeline.
@@omnimon1996 also, the Espada are ranked according to power, not when they were recruited. Yammi is 10th because his sealed state is weak as shit since his use of his abilities is trash and because he can't control his own Reiatsu. He's literally the Ichigo of the Espada: immense raw power but severely lacking combat prowess and control. He became rank 0 because he releases all the power he's been storing while dormant and can become even stronger since his ability effectively makes him the Hulk: becoming ever stronger whenever his anger reaches some kind of limit which we see happen at least 3 times. In reality, if he doesn't store enough power which takes who knows how long, when he uses his Resurrection he'll probably only go up 1 or 2 ranks, becoming the 8th or 9th if that. Then he'll have to gradually climb up to full release (his giant gorilla form) from there.

Ichinel was a good combo, made the arc a lot more lighthearted. Was weird how she declared herself a masochist and Nnoitra is quite plainly sadistic. Wonder if she hung out with him all the time because she hated him and did it to punish herself. Or maybe it was more straightforward and she just didn’t like him and didn’t want him to kill weak hollows.
Nnoitra and Nelliel were never together. Nelliel mistakenly declared herself a masochist because her faction taught her inappropriate things. Nelliel is inclined to protect as a kind of maternal or "big sister" instinct. Nnoitra saw it as a disparagement and became even more obsessed when Nelliel had no intention of fighting him. Maybe he felt that as long as Nelliel was there, Nnoitra couldn't go any further (and technically that happened).

I think if anything he looked up to her for her power to begin with but when he told her about himself and how he wanted to die fighting someone really strong she told him he's stupid and fighting without a reason is bad. From that point on she meddled in every fight he got into, and everytime he challenged her to a fight and she won she told him straight up he was worthless and not worth killing despite wanting to die in combat to a strong opponent. Had Nel killed him after one of their fights he would have been fine with it because she was strong and he got to go out doing what he loved, but instead she spat in his face and told him he was worthless and not worth killing. I like Nel but she caused what happened to her with Nnoitra. She went out of her way to insult and belittle the man at every opportunity and I can only assume she did the same thing with the other guy who helped her who's name I can't spell.
There's actually a cool little fun fact about Nelliel which makes her entirely unique; she doesn't actually have a hollow hole. It would explain how different her personality is to the other Espada. There was an image of all the Espada where the hyokyoku was in the place of their hollow holes, and Nel's was on her zanpakuto instead since she doesn't have one. Theoriests probably had a field day with that information
Nel & Harribel are 2 of my favorite characters, and it's horrific how underused both are in the main canon. Sidenote: Nel's cero double isn't just her eating a cero and firing it back. She eats it, adds her own cero to it, THEN fires it back; hence it basically meaning 'double cero'. Imagine a gran rey cero fired back like this...
I've always liked Nelliel i wish she had more of a chance to shine in the story in general especially towards the end. But one thing i never understood was why Orohime never healed her masked lol i guess Child Nel is too good of a gag character to give up.

Something that never really made sense to me, was the fact that Orehime never healed Nell. Specifically because as strong as her power was supposed to be, to be able to revert things back to the way that they were. So in retrospect she should have been able to heal Nel's mask to a point where she wouldn't need Urahara's mechanism. But then with that said I also believe that Nell would have won the fight against Noitora. And specifically the reason being their numbers had meaning when they had them and despite the fact that Nell probably could not have fought against the third rank at that point in time. I have zero doubts that she could have fought against the fifth rank with little problem had she not been leaking reitsu the whole time.

I always wondered why Orihime didn't use her healing power on Nell's headwound. She restored Grimjaw's arm, so we know her power works on arrancar. Kubo gave her a bracelet instead. I think Orihime healing Nell would have been more interesting than a piece of jewelry/mcguffin.

I actually think Nel would have defeated Nnoitora even if their fight was more drawn out. I don't remember Nnoitora getting that much more powerful after his resureccion and Nel is definitely more level headed.

I think Kenpachi is the one that fights and finishes of Nnoitra because they're foils of each other. They both enjoy a good but while Nnoitra is willing to use cheap tactics to win and will kill his enemies even if they are already down, Kenpachi fights fair and when you're down, he'll give you the chance to get up and come back stronger. Also, their feelings on strong women with Nnoitra despising Nel and Halibel because they are women who are stronger than him while Unohana is the one person Kenpachi admired the most. So I definitely say it was more than Kubo just using Kenpachi to save Ichigo, Kenpachi and Nnoitra are foils.
But I understand wanting Nel and Nnoitra to have a more satisfying conclusion
With the development of Nel in Can’t Fear Your Own World being established, it is very possible for another battle against Nnoitra in the new Hell Arc. The one Nel and Nnoitra deserves.
She reverts back to normal, because it goes with the dementia theme. When she does remember her memories it also let’s her gain back her inception. I believe her resurreccion is like a one hit kill like Soi-Feng’s bankai and their desings are relatively that of a knight. However, Nelliel’s own is less double-edge, because she can still be on the defensive if her attack fails.
I personally love the interpretation of Nell actually being really prideful in her strength and her more human intelligence/instincts even to the point of being egotistical.
(It makes her a bit more interesting)

The worst part about nels character is that she never got a redemption. Great story, one of the most lovable character and kubo left her hanging. I think it's for the best she lost against noitora it showed how much of a dog eat dog world wakomundo is but she should have gotten a moment
I realize Ichigo was busy at the time (Orihime gets re-kidnapped and Ichigo has to fight Ulquiorra) but I was always annoyed that Nel was left in the desert (or that she didn't manage to latch onto Ichigo as he was running). Some might disagree, but all things considered, I'd like to think that Nel would have been a great help against Ulquiorra. Even assuming she never transformed, her getting seriously hurt or even killed should have triggered something in Ichigo. Nobody says it often and it's easy to overlook, but at the end of the day, Ichigo is an older brother to twin sisters. You cannot simply attack a little girl in front of him, and not expect him to murder you. You can debate whether it would trigger the exact same reaction that Orihime did (and that was just her voice, imagine if she'd been mortally wounded), but I don't see any way that sort of thing would go unpunished, even if there's no breath left in Ichigo at the time (which there wasn't).

She's one of my favorite characters, but i do get a chuckle when i hear people imply that she's a totally good character. She has a condescending and arrogant aspect to her personality but it tends to get covered up with her pacifist nature. Even Heribel who she is compared to doesn't seem to have that arrogance and condescending trait and she could very well be stronger than nel. Nell herself has show that she can be rather stubborn especially to people she sees as weaker than herself like when she wasn't willing to listen to grimmjow because she was once higher rank than him
Nelliel is a mix of Ichigo and Orihime (could well be his daughter lol). She is sweet, motherly, naive, and childlike like Orihime but stubborn, reckless, and rude like Ichigo. However, in the novels where they deepen the Harribel / Nelliel / Grimmjow dynamic it is shown that Grimmjow is more inclined to initiate conversations and arguments with Nelliel (as well as Ichigo) than with Harribel. Nelliel, even though she annoys him, openly cares for him (being the only one who comes close to check on his condition when he was injured) and she sees him more as a partner than an enemy. Harribel is neutral towards Grimmjow because she does not trust his destructive nature, she fears that sooner or later he will want to fight for his command position in the hollow world. The Harribel thing is not respect, but distrust and caution. Nel doesn't look down on him, she tries to curb her reckless and destructive nature by trying to be more dominating (because Grimmjow doesn't listen the easy way).
Nelliel may be the only one who cares if Grimmjow acts recklessly and gets himself killed, while Harribel will stand aside and let Nelliel take the initiative to deal with Grimmjow. Seeing the treatment he has with both, he seems to lean more to the trustworthy treatment that Nel has towards him, than to the distrust of Harribel.
I hope that in the anime Kubo is able to do more of what he wanted to do.

Me too. Anime uses an annoying plot device which robs victories from characters with time limited transformation by making them revert right before they deal a lethal blow. Nel losing to Nnoitra after he releases would’ve definitely been a better ending. It makes sense since her signature technique and released ultimate only dealt minor damage (she even knows he can survive the lance attack twice in base even after taking Cero Doble). Nnoitra is fully recovered after releasing, Nel can’t really touch him (maybe somewhat tank his blows depending on her level of Hierro), and she eventually reverts back into a kid after being overwhelmed. He pummels her like before and everything goes the same except there’s no Kenpachi vs Nnoitra warmup (cuz good grief the latter already had enough exposure in base).

She’s much faster and could clearly stand up to his Hierro. Alternative fight is Nnoitra releasing after getting hit by Cero Doble which causes more much visible damage than before. In their released forms Nel lands one lance attack which causes several of Nnoitra’s arms to come off. After he regenerates they fight some more. Regeneration takes its toll and Nnoitra only has melee attacks which is a big disadvantage against her Hierro piercing ranged attack. She nearly completes a second lance attack to end the fight, but in typical anime fashion her transformation suddenly runs out and she turns back into a child. This version would at least solve the glaring power scaling issue.

21:00 Nnoi and Nel, served as development for Arrancar, and Hollows, as a whole. Backstory is for exposition. Which is WHY, not all characters have them. They only get them, when Kubo needs to fill in the blanks. Most of expository dialogues, takes place during fights, and/or flashbacks. There wasn't any resolution, because that wasn't, the point, or their purpose.
Nnoi wanted to "die standing", because mantis die, on their feet, during mating. Zaraki's purpose is to show Nnoi, what a "REAL MAN" is. Nnoi's idea of strength, is beating on women. Killing those, who are WEAKER, or weakened. Zaraki is the MANLIEST man, in Bleach. But he doesn't prey on the weak, and he looks up, to strong women. He showed Nnoi, that He was nothing but, a little BITCH. It's quite poetic ....God I fucking LOVE Kubo! People really don't get his genius
Which is why I kinda wish Kenpachi got to watch the later stages of their battle (if Nnoitra released which I definitely wish he did) and think “Why are these Espada fighting each other?” after saving an injured Ichigo from a released Tesra like before. He grins and says he’ll fight the winner. Yachiru says he can take them at the same time and Ichigo comically explains that Nel is on their side. Kenpachi admires her strength. Once Nel loses he blocks Nnoitra’s killing blow and explains his code of honor while also hoping to fight her himself someday.

Gotta be honest here: At first Nel felt so off i thought she was a filler character. And i felt that way for a good while. Her getting an adult form i did not immediately change that image for me.
But Bleach has a weird relationship with filler anyways.
The Bount arc for example, it felt sooooo right, more so then actual other non filler arcs. It felt way better then the fullbring stuff, that really felt like a retcon to explain Orihime's and Chad's abilities.

Becoming a Hollow isn't dependent upon what kind of person you were in life. It's all a matter of a soul being consumed by negative feelings or not being purified by a Shinigami. Orihime's brother Sora was a kind person, but his obsession with protecting Orihime after death warped into possessiveness and triggered his transformation into a Hollow.
In life, Nelliel was likely very similar to how she is as an Arrancar. It's the circumstances that kicked off her Hollowfication that's the real mystery.
She goes from cute kid to absolute babe, very similar to a certain cat lady.

Thank you for pointing out that Notirra is sexist. I don't know how many times I had to point this out and so many fans jump at me dismissing this claim and saying that Nel was the antagonizer and he did nothing wrong. And while I don't doubt that Nel did antagonize him, I did notice how much of a problem he had with the female arrancar so I assumed that Nel was only following him to annoy him as much as he was annoying them. Pretty much bullying him back after he started bullying them.
Nel wasn’t following him to bully him she was protecting a weaker comrade who was reckless and would’ve gotten him self killed. She could have left him to die but it not in her heart. Like Ichigo who fight to protect Nel follow the same ideology hints why she love Ichigo cuz he protected her instead of just fighting to prove one own strength like Nnoitora.

My mom loved Nel so much, she didn't like manga much, but loved the anime.
My mom was looking forward to the new Bleach anime continuation.
But she passed away in July- so she didn't make it.
Ichigo, Nel, Rukia, Orihime, Yachiro, Yoroichi, Kenpachi, Matsumoto, Hitsugya, Urahara and a bunch of others were characters she really loved in Bleach.
I can't express how shocked I was, when I was 16, we caught up to what was dubbed in this section of the anime and my mom insisted we switch to the sub (because the dub was so slow and we watched so much anime, we watched too quickly to just stick with the English dub), even though we had only been watching dubbed until then.

I still think Dondochakka and Pesche are really underrated characters. They follow Nel without hesitate even when Nnoitra slashed their masks because of her and even when she turned into a child and was kicked out of Las Noches, forcing the two to play dumb and teach her every basic thing about surviving in a horrible enviroment like Hueco Mundo without becoming a terrible monster. In the flashbacks we can see they're not that dumb like they chose to show in the hueco mundo invasion arc, they need to be like that because, well, they need to take care of a arrancar child who has no memory that she used to be the 3rd espada and their superior. The way they handle every life and death situation in the arc without showing their powers and still being calm and still playing dumb for the other hollows, Nel and Ichigo's gang is amazing. The invasion arc brought a lot of world class characters like Ulquiorra, Nnoitra and Yammy, but for me Dondochakka and Pesche are the real MVP in character development.
This is great right here, I love that they are so intertwined with Nel so much that it gives a decent explanation to what goes on with her

On the point of Kenpachi being unrelated to the fight, I think it fits the trend of the captains fighting hollows similar to them. Huh you’re right- Stark and Shunsui are both laid back but super powerful, Halibel and Toshiro have similar zanpakuto, and Barraggan and Sui Feng are both really arrogant i guess? Yamamoto should have fought Barraggan as they are both the old leaders
@@cian239 I think Unahana would have been a better matchup. Her Bankai has a similar ability to erode enemies, and she is from the first generation of Captains and since she was the 11th, she was probably one of the last recruited. Like Barragon appears to be for the Espada.

If it's not Barragan it's Grimmjow, Grimmjow's fraccion are have the lowest numbers, meaning they were created before the rest of them and Barragan's are numbered directly after them and those failures guarding the place Ichigo, Sado, and Uuryu entered from.

She really needed more screen time. All she ended up doing in the final arc was swooping in and save Urahara and company from Askin’s technique. Even in the Hueco Mundo arc, she could’ve popped up again to help with taking out Yammy or something. Another excellent Waifu shafted by Kubo.
Part of me thinks that Nel treated Nnoitera as her child, the constant scoldings, the discipline, and even when he did something wrong, (lolifying her) she didnt proceed to kill him in hopes of him finally learning the error of his ways.
Thats one of the biggest problems of that ark, too many characters and only few get a good amount of screen time. Arrancars barely get anything, Visords are just fodder, most vice captains also fodder, fullbringers do something for the plot and thats it. The character I personally missed the most in tybw is white or Zangetsu, because I really feel Kubo missed an opportunity with his interactions with Ichigo after the truth was revealed.
@@proxyx3557 I dont disagree completely there, I believe that's one of Kubo's flaws. He introduces more characters than he can expand upon to move the plot and it leaves liked characters like Nel a bit abandoned. Once these characters move the plot they disappear, so another set does the same (Vizards and Nel being good examples). My other issue was the power scaling for popular characters like byakuya and kanpachi, who both seemed to do better than ichigo in the ark, when he previously bested them both. All that packed with the lack of depth given to certain characters is what I feel are Kubos mistakes (And of course the sad sad Zero squad...).
@@JP-yy3hy I agree with you on the first part , there were so many characters who didn't get enough screentime but I think we feel like that only because a lot of the characters in Bleach were interesting, because realistically speaking there is no way you could give that many characters screentime without the series becoming 900+ chapter. As for your point about the powerscaIing I think you are wrong , because in both cases ;Kenpachi and Byakuya, Ichigo wasn't stronger than them when he beat them, In Kenpachi's case Ichigo won because Kenpachi has the habit of slowly matching his reiatsu to match his opponent, so when Ichigo got a sudden burst of power from zangetsu, Kenpachi couldn't keep up in time, you can even see the same thing happening to a certain extent against Nnoitra, as for Byakuya, Ichigo Only won thanks to White taking control and that was when he dealt the most damage to Byakuya, before that he was losing badly and about to die, so in the arrancar arc it wasn't that Kenpachi and Byakuya who got stronger , it was Ichigo who reached the level he was in when he fought Byakuya.

I personally dont like ichigo's character regardless, he has many strengths of course , but his personality gets boring to me, and I just take intrest in the other characters in bleach. I do think we can all agree kubo deserved more time to flesh this series out though.

What makes Nel awesome is that, like her successor as tercera she's deadly skilled and powerful yet she never let it go to her head, only wanting peace and being morally opposed to bloodshed. Her fun loving side only adds to it while balancing out Harribel's stoic shyness. They are perfect for ruling post blood war Hueco Mundo with their beyond ressureccion adding to their badass security alongside their Fracciones.
The only thing that went to Nel's head is Nnoitora's zanpakuto.

The comment about 'inverse to soul society arc' got me thinking...
1. Ichigo invades Soul Society while improving his shinigami powers.
2. Ichigo invades Hueco Mundo while evolving his hollow powers.
3. Ichigo 'invades' a part of the human world while unlocking his fullbringer powers.
4. Ichigo is invaded by the Wandenreich and realizes his quincy powers.

Nel is basically this arc's Hanataro: a guide from the enemy faction that saves his life. Hanataro through his healing and Nel through her battle with Nnoitra.

Except Hanatoro betrayed his faction while Nel's wasn't really a part of "her faction" anymore, she was throw out by a weak leader of her faction because he was envious and Aizen did dick all about it even though he claimed he gathered them because he wanted powerful allies(tools that he could throw away whenever on his way to destroy the world).

As for Aizen being hypocritical, he was very similar to Stark in his loneliness and desire to have those he could consider equals. Main difference being that while Stark was happy just to have people able to be around him, Aizen wanted to find someone strong enough to understand him. Something Ichigo managed to achieve in the end. Point is, Aizen didn't care about Nel for the same reason he didn't about any of them: They didn't reach his standard of "powerful" and so to him they were as worthless as the Vizards. In other words, they were just disposable failed experiments.

Honestly, with the upcoming hell arc, I would LOVE to see Nel and her fraction being active members of Ichigo and Orihime's family's life's. Tbh I do believe that if the fight between Nelliel and Nnoitora had no stop, she would have won. It was sure as hell a surprise for Nnoitora to see her transformed back into a full grown woman, but he had time to rationalize and prepare for it; she didn't immediately attack. Throughout the entire clash, Nel was visibly superior and, although it seems as though Nnoitora has not suffered serious injuries, we have to remember that he has the strongest Hierro AND Nelliel wasn't trying to kill him.

I think that since she didn't grow stronger, and as Nnoitra said the current Espada are stronger than they were in her day, I'd say she dropped a couple ranks powerscaling wise. I honestly think Nel and Nnoitra were more or less equal (both 5th rank in terms of power) and that's why she could pummel him but was unable to break his Hierro.

I would hope we get a mini series that dives into Hueco Mundo after the blood war and Tokinada troubles. Would be great to catch up with Nel,Harribel and both their respective Fracciones alongside an apparently reforming Grimmjow. They've been making things better for that world and that deserves a spotlight.

The timeline of the Espada always seemed to confuse me... It was never implied, but it seemed like Aizen/Gin/Tousen went to and from Hueco Mundo gathering the espada for almost 50 years or so. To have "fallen" espada... and espada being re-ranked and such seemed like it was over a long period of time.... For instance, when Aizen fooled Barragan, it was at an earlier stage when Aizen was still in SS as a captain, but Gin and Tousen were already a captains as well, but when Aizen recruited Stark, Aizen had already defected to Hueco Mundo as his appearance was after his evil reveal. I always wondered how Aizen pulled that off while being a Gotei Captain.

Trust me when I say this, it’s HORRIBLY bad! There’s just too little information that it’s incredibly hard to map out the Espada timeline, I’ve tried and only have guesses on how the timeline could’ve of went but since we don’t don’t know who the original 10 Espada were, besides Aaroniero, it’s a major pain in the ass to figure out at which time did Aizen recruit who. Fracciones help to narrow it down a bit but since Yammy, Ulquiorra, and Zommari don’t have any the time of their recruitments are completely unknown, and then Yammy himself screws us over in further cause he says he is the 0 Espada and it’s truly ranked between 0-9, which then makes it more confusing how the Espada’s timeline even works if that is how they’re meant to be truly ranked! It’s just a nightmare trying to figure this out! TwT
Starrk’s time of recruitment insanely helps because it means he was the last Espada recruited so for a good majority of time Barragan was 1 and Harribel was 2 and so on before Starrk joined. How Aizen pulled this off; he just uses his Kyoka Sugestu and no one is the wiser when he makes the trips to Hueco Mundo.
@@omnimon1996 The originals 9 Espada were Baragon, Nel, the Preveron Espada, Nnoitra, Aaroniero, probably Ulquiorra, and Szyal who was the original 0 Espada at the time (according to the lightnovels I think. Might have been one of the data books).

Yammi is 10th because his sealed state is weak as shit since his use of his abilities is trash and because he can't control his own Reiatsu. He's literally the Ichigo of the Espada: immense raw power but severely lacking combat prowess and control.
He became rank 0 because he releases all the power he's been storing while dormant and can become even stronger since his ability effectively makes him the Hulk: becoming ever stronger whenever his anger reaches some kind of limit which we see happen at least 3 times.
In reality, if he doesn't store enough power which takes who knows how long, when he uses his Resurrection he'll probably only go up 1 or 2 ranks, becoming the 8th or 9th if that. Then he'll have to gradually climb up to full release (his giant gorilla form) from there.

Ichinel was a good combo, made the arc a lot more lighthearted. Was weird how she declared herself a masochist and Nnoitra is quite plainly sadistic. Wonder if she hung out with him all the time because she hated him and did it to punish herself. Or maybe it was more straightforward and she just didn’t like him and didn’t want him to kill weak hollows.
Nnoitra and Nelliel were never together. Nelliel mistakenly declared herself a masochist because her faction taught her inappropriate things. Nelliel is inclined to protect as a kind of maternal or "big sister" instinct. Nnoitra saw it as a disparagement and became even more obsessed when Nelliel had no intention of fighting him. Maybe he felt that as long as Nelliel was there, Nnoitra couldn't go any further (and technically that happened).

I think if anything he looked up to her for her power to begin with but when he told her about himself and how he wanted to die fighting someone really strong she told him he's stupid and fighting without a reason is bad. From that point on she meddled in every fight he got into, and everytime he challenged her to a fight and she won she told him straight up he was worthless and not worth killing despite wanting to die in combat to a strong opponent. Had Nel killed him after one of their fights he would have been fine with it because she was strong and he got to go out doing what he loved, but instead she spat in his face and told him he was worthless and not worth killing. I like Nel but she caused what happened to her with Nnoitra. She went out of her way to insult and belittle the man at every opportunity and I can only assume she did the same thing with the other guy who helped her who's name I can't spell.
There's actually a cool little fun fact about Nelliel which makes her entirely unique; she doesn't actually have a hollow hole. It would explain how different her personality is to the other Espada. There was an image of all the Espada where the hyokyoku was in the place of their hollow holes, and Nel's was on her zanpakuto instead since she doesn't have one. Theoriests probably had a field day with that information

Nel & Harribel are 2 of my favorite characters, and it's horrific how underused both are in the main canon. Sidenote: Nel's cero double isn't just her eating a cero and firing it back. She eats it, adds her own cero to it, THEN fires it back; hence it basically meaning 'double cero'. Imagine a gran rey cero fired back like this...

I've always liked Nelliel i wish she had more of a chance to shine in the story in general especially towards the end. But one thing i never understood was why Orohime never healed her masked lol i guess Child Nel is too good of a gag character to give up.

I want to point out something, you said multiple times that Lanzador Verde did not do too much damage, i think EVEN IN THAT SITUATION, Neliel did not want to kill Nnoitra, so that s why it did not go through 🥰
Something that never really made sense to me, was the fact that Orehime never healed Nell. Specifically because as strong as her power was supposed to be, to be able to revert things back to the way that they were. So in retrospect she should have been able to heal Nel's mask to a point where she wouldn't need Urahara's mechanism. But then with that said I also believe that Nell would have won the fight against Noitora. And specifically the reason being their numbers had meaning when they had them and despite the fact that Nell probably could not have fought against the third rank at that point in time. I have zero doubts that she could have fought against the fifth rank with little problem had she not been leaking reitsu the whole time.
