I think a good question we can ask ourselves is if we were vulnerable and trusted someone who cared about us and looked after us, but then they were to kill us afterward, would we think that person loved us?
@@CroElectroStile I understand that we're not cows and pigs, but just like we are able to experience pain, suffering, or harm, so can they. I wasn't trying to say we are cows and pigs. I was putting the argument, "you can love animals and eat them too" into perspective. If we put ourselves in their shoes, we would have empathy. Just as we have empathy for dogs and have laws to protect them.
exactly. like, if our moms and dads wants to eat us when we are 8 years old should we still love and let them to eat us because they made us in the first place.
I became vegan after watching your videos, Ed. The reason is because I cannot refute anything you put forward, it is simply illogical of me to fully agree with you and continue to support an unsustainable lifestyle.
thats exactly why i went vegan a year and a half ago!! Ed speaks the truth and I couldn’t live in a state of moral hypocrisy any longer after watching his videos and agreeing with everything he says
@murphy mcmanning Yes we vegans are stupid, we are just brainwashed by those gurus like Ed. How dumb are we to think about compassion and environment...
@murphy mcmanning Calm down my friend. I know that animals help the forests. Then you say agriculture is bad but most of the farming areas on earth are for food which will be feeding to animals. The majority of animals are in factory farms and not grass fed for example. According to the FAO, 14.5% of green gazes come from animal agriculture (I advise you to read the article). And agriculture is not always bad, think about crop rotation. After all, even if you are possibly right that veganism doesn't mean ecology-friendly, i mean, the intention is in. It was just insulting to mention us and Ed as "deceiver and sheep" when all what we are trying to do, is being compassionate and help the environement. (I make clear again : with the intention at the least.)
@@xoranginho dude nobody supports factory farming not only do they treat the animals like complete shit. The animals are sick and cause diseases. Pasteurized milk grain fed animals pumped with hormones are not good for the human body.why do you think all the studies are done with factory farmed animals. Pasteurized milk is fucking poisen, that doesn't mean a vegan diet is good. You can't survive on a vegan diet your whole life without supplements. Beta carotene doesn't even convert to vitamin A from carrots and sweet potatoes. Only a few people can do it. But you wouldn't get enough of it anyways, even if you could convert it. I used to look up to people like ED, vegan gains, Gary and so on until I saw sv3rige own Richard on a debate at least on the nutritional part of the debate and realized how full of shit he was. Richard has even admitted to gut problems, he feels like shit but has too big of a heart to admit it. Veganism makes sense ethically but not nutritionally.
I think this is a good video, the guy in the start. Still watching... Not sure if you saw someone else. I saw two adults having two different opinions, that are very respectful to one another.
@@granta3044 and you are in the real nature yourself, hunting boars with spears among your brethren, then watching TH-cam at night by the fire? I'll stay in the civilized world, thanks.
This is a clever way to avoid being the pushy vegan. You're inviting meat-eaters to shove their opinions down your throat and then you make them reconsider their position.
@juanete Ed literally says in this video that he hates the idea of calling people who eat meat, "bad people." It doesn't help the argument, and closes people off from discussion.
@Roger No, they're no psychopathic people - they're apathetic and selfish, but not bad. That is a lazy, normative way of thinking that serves very little purpose. I think the idea is that if you tell someone that they're "bad," there is little motivation or reason for them then to change. But if we hold the idea that someone is at nature compassionate but is making bad choices, change is still an option. Calling people monsters and psychopaths serves only to further entrench the people who are apathetic in their negatively impactful habits and lifestyles. There are people who make good and bad decisions, but very very rarely are there ever, in my opinion, bad (to the core) people. We all have a negative impact on living things around us, maybe not intentionally, but we do. We are not BAD because of it, but we are not good either. Expand your idea of what it means to use such simple words to describe something so complex..
I love how much respect Ed has for the person he's interviewing! He isn't condescending and doesn't try to make the guy feel stupid, he just wants to inform and hopefully change his opinions. Loved this video. 🌿👍🏻
yes i really liked this particular debate for the reasons that it was calm and collected from both sides, the person talking to ed wasnt defensive and and trying to 'win' this, was just having a conversation based on his beliefs and knowledge. I think he was a great listener and i can appreciate him trying to come up with proper arguments. really great video all in all.
Would you care to give an example of what was the dumb question? I think all the questions he desribed as GOOD were infact GOOD questions. If they seem "DUMB" to you, it is probably because the answer is very essential. So if you dont KNOW this essential answer, it is a VERY GOOD question, that is trying to get such answer.
@@burnedflowers141 And that makes it a good question... I mean, imagine in physics class, I can ask about why at a quantum level, the paired particles can behave contrary to our notion of cause and effect... No. It just means you are smart and on top of the game. If however I ask in the same class, how come we dont fly off the earth, that shows im dumb as a rock and didnt listen to the teacher for probably half the lessons before... @Turito Bassu maybe you need to experiment with your diet more. ever since going plant-based, i could run 10k more everyday, never felt a food coma or need a nap in the middle of the day. are you sure it's the plants that keeps you up at night if you've never gone 100%?

Thumper what an erroneous thing to say. I can only speak for myself, but I know plenty of other vegans who went vegan for the animals. It's actually the opposite of what you say, we don't think we are better, than anyone, including the animals. We don't think that we have the right to take the lives of other sentient beings when we have no need to. Veganism is the most ethical, compassionate, healthy, eco friendly and progressive way to live.
@Andy Lucas the problem is that there is no such thing as a humane death. the same way that there is no such thing as a humane rape. would rape be okay if the rapist would take care of the victim before the act? or if the rapist would hug and kiss the victim while raping them?

Okay, but the fact is that 74% of vegans turn back to our natural lifestyle. Correct, restaurants are opening but you still represent a very small minority. @Burner Fire You are off topic. The guy interviewed was saying he would have no problem killing a dog and eat them. He explicitly said that if he eats a chicken or a pig why not eating a dog, because to him all animals are equal.
Been plant based for about a month, I can realize, eating non-vegetarian food is not hypocrisy. My family is selectively non vegetarian. We don't eat cows or pigs. Just fish, chicken, dairy and eggs. In fact I myself don't mind people around me eating anything they wish. Just I hate being interrupted in my preferences. Speciesm is something on which different people have different opinions. Henceforth, I really don't force others to quit meat.
Not only is killing an animal you supposedly love not actual love, but the idea that you can still love an animal while *eating their bodies* is completely baffling to me. Especially because their remains will be turned into literal shit. When my cat dies, I hope to bury him not eat him. Eating animals is such a dishonor and disgrace to their lives. I refuse to let my body be a graveyard.
Vegans... what is love? Do you guys actually believe this? Actions do not equate to feelings. Actions are only used to express feelings but those expressions can ignored. I can hate him so much that I want to destroy him but then think logically "but I'll go to jail" or this or that will happen so I choose not to. Same could be said with love... I love you but if I don't do this or that then this other thing wil happen. Think beyond your feelings vegans. People can ignore doing what they want or feel they should etc and do an action merely out of logical reasoning or because of a greater love or hate for something else.
@jonsan astari i don't think that has anything to do with what she's saying. when you love someone it's bc you've had a relationship with them of some sort. We're ok with worms eating us but if you love someone or an animal the thought of eating them just seems awful
It's amazing how they always use that as a way to claim that we're better than animals but don't see that it's the fact we're better that we can make the choice to rise above primitive urges. I'm stronger than my girlfriend so I might as well beat her up just cos I can
I think the reason we are outside the food chain in a sense is that humans have become so advanced from technology that we now no longer need to eat whatever we could get ahold of to survive. We have an overwhelming impact on the planet's environment and are obligated by that fact, to source our food responsibly. As you imply, we (with very few exceptions) are not hunter gatherers. We go to the store and buy food that has been grown or raised instead of food that was gathered from the wild or hunted.
Jose Henriquez I have lived in a third world country and have family that lives in a third world country. They still have the ability to plant fruits, vegetables, and grains. What would be cheaper..to plant a seed and provide it with water, or feed an animal the grains that humans could be eating ?
He's so deep into his "you can love, yet kill" line that he keeps justifying it all the way up to human murder. Come on! At least he's trying to be consistent, I suppose.
Exactly! It's like he realized if he changed his line of thinking when it came to humans, it would reveal his prejudice against animals and flawed reasoning. Imagine waking up one night and one of your parents is standing over you with a big knife saying "Honey, I just want to show you how much I love you"!
Actions don't equate to feelings. Actions are merely often used to express feelings, but those expressions are not uncontrollable, and can be ignored. Think about it.

I’m 15 and I’ve been vegetarian for 4 years and vegan for 1 month and I’ve loved it so far. I totally agree, both my parents used to work on a farm / agriculture in the Middle East when they lived there and continued working on farms when they moved to the uk. My dad still eats meat but my mum is vegetarian and trying to go vegan and I legit think everyone should be educated on what and where their food is from.
Elizabeth Elias usually because of the carb heavy buns and fries they eat with the meat patty. I can’t make my husband any bread carbs for breakfast or he gets sleepy at work. Just meat and eggs. He can handle some broccoli but not too much or he gets sleepy lol
Elizabeth Elias I agree. Before I was vegan, I used to feel rubbish after a meaty meal, tired, sort of ill and just like I needed a nap. As a vegan now, I literally feel a steady energy surge after a meal. I’ve never felt better than I do, eating mostly Whole Foods vegan and my blood work is great. Elizabeth Elias 😆 you are using a tv show as evidence? And yes turkey specifically does have a sleepy thing to it I forgot what the chemical is called but ppl think it puts you to sleep on thanksgiving but it’s actually the huge amount of food ppl ate in total. 14k steps is where you should be at as normal activity nothing Uber special about that. He's clearly thought about it, and like many of us, he's struggled with the whole "I eat cows but not my pet dog" dilemma and apparently took it a step further to humans. @Southy I think it's great to support vegan options that come from otherwise animal-product focused companies. Southy yes because it sends a signal to the diary industry that people want the diary free option. The diary and meat industries just work on supply and demand. If we start asking them to supply the options free of flesh, cows milk and chicken eggs they’ll start supplying it. That’s the best way to get change within these industries.
Southy yes you would - some vegans have a different views. Just like not everyone in the same political party agrees. Earthling Ed Thank you for tirelessly standing up on behalf of the most vulnerable and the most egregiously treated individuals....the animals. I think it's a problematic false dichotomy to frame the context of the moral question of whether needless killing is justified or not in terms of 'killing' vs. 'loving'. Of course different people have different notions of what "love" means but I think it's safe to say that many people would agree with this definition: "an intense feeling of deep affection." It's what we think of when we think of a girl/boyfriend, spouse, the family cat or dog as just a few examples. The act of needlessly killing another individual is an act of not respecting their life, not an act of not loving them. So I'd argue that the correct framing ought to be: "You cant respect animals and kill (eat) them.....change my mind". Just my suggestion. The much better option instead of 'loving', IMHO, is respecting.....which I'd argue is the actual converse of 'killing'. I don't love most people in the world yet I respect their life....I wouldn't have to love someone in order to not kill them. In fact, there's plenty of animals whom I don't love and yet, of course, I respect their life. Love ≠ respect. To love someone is not the opposite of to not kill them. Much love to you.
Its always funny, people think they are sitting down for a debate with the average joe 😂 Then Ed asks, are you aware you are being filmed and is it ok for you? "Yes"... Game time! But hundred of thousands of people will watch the video and ask them selves these questions and it will effect thousands of people! :) Well done!

@Andy Lucas we don’t have to. natural carnivores and omnivores aren’t out there in the wild getting high cholesterol, diabetes, cancer, obesity, etc. just because you have access to something that doesn’t mean you are entitled to it. why is it that when we have a health problem we are told to decrease our amount of meat intake and to drink 1% fat milk, etc? do you think wild carnivores and omnivores have this problem?
@Andy Lucas still doesn’t change the fact that processed meat (aka red meat) is considered to be a cause of cancer to humans by the american cancer society. want me to provide you the link? i bet a true carnivore wouldn’t be told to not eat meat because of their risk of developing cancer.
Love is a verb. Murdering someone so you can get sensual pleasure from their corpse is the pure negation of love. If you murder someone for that reason, you don't love them. You just falsified your own claim. Actions are more important than words.

So true
So pure he chooses death over life.
@@xoranginho dude nobody supports factory farming not only do they treat the animals like complete shit. The animals are sick and cause diseases. I used to look up to people like ED, vegan gains, Gary and so on until I saw sv3rige own Richard on a debate at least on the nutritional part of the debate and realized how full of shit he was. Depends what you call pushy. LOL Just being a vegan can be considered pushy to those who consider them a threat to their "pleasure"
Exactly!
In an open dialogue, no one is shoving anyone's opinion down anyone's throat!

Would you care to give an example of what was the dumb question? I think all the questions he desribed as GOOD were infact GOOD questions. Ed you are absolutely adorable, amazing and an absolute role model. Thank you so much for everything you do. So genuine 🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌 Keep spreading that kindness, world needs a hell of a lot more of it !!
I would love to go on tour doing activism with you! You're such a huge inspiration.
Ah, this was such a nice change! Usually the people Ed argue with are ignorant and feel surperior and bring up the same old arguments... this guy was at least more morally consistent on the dog vs pig thing, he seemed pretty smart, and he was very respectful throughout the whole conversation. Instead of getting defensive and trying to debunk everything Ed said, he considered the points that were made. He seems like a nice guy, and maybe from now on he'll think more consciously about his choices :)
thank you for doing this, it's so important. i admire your calm with those people.

You can't claim to love an animal while you are killing them. That's an obvious inconsistency and you are lying to yourself if you think that way.
Double standards at their best...
@@positivekarolina1260 Damn right it is. Also your baby is adorable, she looks so cute! Sorry, just had to say that.

You could love them, but your love for meat can be greater.🤣
@@positivekarolina1260 why would you want your kid to be vegan?🤣
I admire how patiently you walk people through their own contradictions. Thank you for being a voice for animals!
People are such hypocrites! Love you, Ed and all the work you do for the animals!
@Southy I think it's great to support vegan options that come from otherwise animal-product focused companies. It shows them that there is a demand for vegan products, and would make them more willing to switch over to those alternatives/release new vegan products, which will increase the vegan options in stores even further!
One thing all vegans agree with though is that animals shouldn’t have to die to feed humans who could quite easily sustain themselves on plants and meat alternatives. If there is a kinder option why not choose it?!
I absolutely love these change my mind videos, they're brilliant
Ed transitions beautifully into each question and stays calm and polite the whole way through. So delightful to watch.
OMG ed as so much patience , much respect
ASMR SoniaSoothes Well to be honest I would stay calm here too because the first one (are they more? I am still at the blond one) he really has intresting answers and they weren’t exactly stupid.
There should be an ASMR video dedicated to Ed's patience.
I love this. Great conversation!
I think I'm in love with Earthling Ed. He is so incredible!
Earthling Ed
Thank you for tirelessly standing up on behalf of the most vulnerable and the most egregiously treated individuals....the animals.
Thank you for your work.
The difference between humans and cats when it comes to food, cats need meat to function but we dont.
Its always funny, people think they are sitting down for a debate with the average joe 😂 Then Ed asks, are you aware you are being filmed and is it ok for you? "Yes"... Game time!
He systematically strips away all the arguments with facts and logic! At the end it does not matter that much if the person who joins the debate does not agree. But hundred of thousands of people will watch the video and ask them selves these questions and it will effect thousands of people! :) Well done!
He uses no logic or science nearly all his facts are wrong

Alistair Ceansa yes I believe they are just elongated incisors, for most other animals though their tusks are usually elongated canines
@@alexwr Thank you Amy for your response. Chimpanzees and Bonobos are indeed close relatives. If it is that we are omnivores, by my understanding this would mean we could survive from just plants - that killing and eating animals would be optional, and as such unnecessary. How does one morally justify the unnecessary killing of sentient creatures?
@@ellistarceansa8182 Indeed we can survive on plant alone :) I'm certainly not debating that! I'm just asking why I'd have to morally justify our diets when no other creature on the planet has to?

Agafia Bowden you‘re never too young :) look up genesis butler ☺️
Look up Vegan Evan too! He's 7 or 8 years old and he's a vegan activist. If you want to be an activist, go for it. Plant those seeds! 🌱
All these people who don't know what they are talking about become activists, not at all ironic given contemporary politics and the naive individuals becoming activists. Future ideologue alert!
Do not feel pressured by the vegans Agafia, meat will help you grow healthy, it's very hard for young people to get their diets right without a lot of work and bloodwork etc. So don't sweat it.
@@JLydecka What are you talking about "pressured" by the vegans? We aren't pressuring anyone, it's called ENCOURAGEMENT. Quit painting vegans in a bad light. It's not hard to get your diet right. Massive amounts of bloodwork aren't necessary. Just eat bigger portions of varied whole foods and you'll be fine. There are tons of resources online to help like challenge22.com (which is free support with mentors to help you transition your diet), as well as cronometer. There are also vegan/vegetarian discord servers, which are super helpful.
Also Jacob, meat will not help you grow healthy. It's been scientifically proven that animal products cause heart disease, cancer, and diabetes. How can something that's been proven to cause deadly diseases like cancer and heart disease be healthy for us? The World Health Organization and the American Cancer Society have deemed processed meat a group 1 carcinogen (same group as cigarettes/tobacco) and red meat as a group 2A carcinogen, which means they cause cancer. The largest group of medical professionals (Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics) have this to say about a vegan diet:
“It is the position of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics that appropriately planned vegetarian, including vegan, diets are healthful, nutritionally adequate, and may provide health benefits for the prevention and treatment of certain diseases. These diets are appropriate for all stages of the life cycle, including pregnancy, lactation, infancy, childhood, adolescence, older adulthood, and for athletes.”

3:52 The sound you make when you've been bamboozled
Love is a verb. Murdering someone so you can get sensual pleasure from their corpse is the pure negation of love. If you murder someone for that reason, you don't love them. You just falsified your own claim. Actions are more important than words.
