Shaun I have been a garage woodworker most of my life. I am 70 years old. The fact that you share your "concerns" as you build this desk is great. I have never approached a project that I have designed without thinking what I am going to do with it if it does not work. How am I going to explain it to my CFO that it was worth the cost, learned what not to do next time, had a great time and tell her just enjoy the nice fire. Keep those clips in it gives us hope. I would love the desk and can pick it up any time. Thanks
Tbh I didnt even notice you changing something about the video. I dont care too much about consistency though, Im here for wood working obviously but even more Im here because you love what you do. Switch whatever you need to keep that alive.

Thank you for being honest about mistakes. I can’t count the number of times I do something like that and beat myself up. I should focus on what do I do to move forward, mistakes be dammed.
I’ve enjoyed every video you’ve created. I found your channel awhile back and went all the way to the beginning of you creating content. I enjoyed your new format and telling it as it is, the real struggles you encounter. Now I don’t live in “Southern” California, but my family does, therefore, by proxy I do, and I’m more than willing to make the drive to pickup that beautiful desktop to use for my office.
As a woodworker who is going to try and move into it full time from game design and still building his confidence, I appreciate these videos immensely. Seeing you take on projects then absolutely struggle with them is such great encouragement, funny as it sounds. Just knowing that even some of the most creative and skillful woodworkers have these struggles can be super motivational.
Thank you for sticking with a video that shows us your building process. Most other youtubers stopped doing what makes me most excited about woodworking. I will always this style of video any day of the week.
"I want that desk". I like the unique design element of turning a standing/sitting desk into something that is more pleasing to the eye. My wife is an architect who works at home. I got her a table-top height adjustment that she puts on the kitchen table. This would fit her perfectly, she can do her design work... on something that was designed. I think you did a real good job on that and it was an entertaining video. I'm an aspiring amateur woodworking (aspiring because I haven't made anything yet). You've earned a subscriber.
S- I watched this the day it came out and I forgot to comment - I dig the new things, feel, style of this video, the "risks" you took. I hear you on getting burnt out on doing the same old thing and just copying/replicating over/over. I enjoyed the piece, the story, and how it was presented. I am not a youtuber. I'm an amateur woodworker, at best, so please take my thoughts as my thoughts, but I am a firm believer that continued evolution is critically important. And evolution is not always linear or forward. Take the risks - you're good at what you do.
I want that desk! I loved the old videos, but I'm really digging this one. Talking directly to the camera feels way more personal than the voiceovers. As a novice woodworker, I also appreciate that you're so transparent about mistakes or worries throughout the project.
I want that desk! Really ingenious way to hide the "ugly" but functional aspect of the sitting-to-standing mechanism. As a beginner woodworker and made some basic furniture over the years, watching real craftsmen help me expand my own skills. Appreciate your videos!!
Definitely noticed the difference between this video and previous. However, no complaints about the previous stuff. Great work and video as always. Thanks for sharing Shaun.
"I want that desk!" Really enjoyed the video. As a novice woodworker I spend a lot of time figuring out how to pivot when things don't go according to plan, and seeing you adapt to the circumstances instead of hiding them with editing is a nice change of pace.
Hello Shaun. I agree with most people on here. Always enjoyed your videos, but this one comes across much more natural. You look like you're enjoying it more too. I personally prefer it. Reminds me more of upur earlier videos. Keep up the good (wood)work! Seán.
Love watching your vids, I appreciate hearing your reasons behind your choices and how you are making the things you make. Even if I liked a certain style of video, knowing that you didn't like making it and would rather do something else or change things up in a way that you found more enjoyable. I would rather watch a video where you are free to be passionate about what your making in a way you enjoy doing it. I think it makes for a better end result.
"I want that desk!" I've enjoyed all your videos and your personality always comes out. I for one would say to not change a thing. As long as your happy, we're going to love anything you put out, video wise! Thanks for always posting great content!
I do really like personal interaction rather than "voice over", so congratulations on your new way of making videos. I already liked your videos but now I do love them.
I want that desk (and would pay for shipping) Dope build. I’ve never seen someone build a base around the sit/stand desk legs. I have a feeling you’ve just started a trend Edit: wrote that halfway through the video. Just finished it, you’re a badass. This is SICK!
I want that desk… I built a simple cherry desk almost a decade ago, and updated it with similar hardware after being diagnosed with a repetitive motion injury that left two of my fingers numb. I’ve been brainstorming for a way to transform the desk from utilitarian to an actual piece of furniture for sometime. What an elegant solution!
Probably the most interesting furniture design I have seen this year. You are very creative. Also, I like that you're starting to change your approach in video making, better to have individuality and personality effecting your creation, better than trying to please the algorithm.
I find your videos very inspiring! You should feel okay to publish them in whatever format suits you best. Your design choices are always prompting me to think more creatively in my own projects, and I love seeing how you approach challenges/come up with solutions along the way. Keep posting what feels good to you and I for one will keep watching!
“I want that desk”. I love the design! Very very creative. Building literal motion into a wood creation is no easy task! I’m enjoying these unique, one-off examples of your creativity.
Ce changement de "style" dans cette vidéo est bienvenu. Il laisse plus de place à ta personnalité, use d'un ton très naturel et nous donne l'impression de partager un peu de tes joies et peines. Et toujours du beau design !
I really love your videos and to be honest…. This has been one of my favorite ones. You’re a natural in front of the camera and also very easy to listen to. You do a great job at explaining what you’re doing and seeing the raw emotion of the journey…. Is really nice. The good and the bad. I really hope you keep at it because you’re one of my favs…. A must watch whenever your videos come out.
Congratulations on pulling off a challenging build. Your concept for hiding the legs is brilliant. I have never cared about standing desks and one thing that I hate about all of them is that instead of the desk being wood, it is very mechanical. Your design is far and away the most attractive I have ever seen. Even as a prototype design, you got it to work well and if you were to do it again, you could probably put in enough extra clearance to have it slide up and down easily without having to futz about with the fit. Great job.
I want that desk. I live in Las Vegas and will drive to SoCal and pick it up. I’m disabled and live in my brother’s house. I want this desk for him. It’s a perfect fit for his style and he uses his stand up desk all the time. I like the more personal, less scripted feel to this vid. 😃

“I want that desk!” Awesome work Shaun. I have been a long time viewer of your channel on FourEyes and your new channel. I really appreciate seeing your process, and can completely commiserate with having hiccups during a wood working project. It is this openness and discussion about how to fix these issues that makes your content so beneficial. Keep it up!
My wife works remotely, it’s a blessing for her. But she often sits for long periods of time at her desk and I’ve often thought about making her a sit stand desk. This is gorgeous and an inspiration. Thanks Shaun! Oh, and, I’ve always enjoyed your videos. If you weren’t enjoying it… it didn’t come out in the final product. You hid it well. However, change it up! Enjoy the process! You do you and what is true! (Man… That’s like a lyric or something.)
I've wondered for a long time how to make a sit/stand desk look less...industrial? You definitely did a great job here. Also, I really dig your pieces direct to camera. Even when you've made a mistake, you still come across as more relaxed and natural than you do in your videos where you just do a voiceover. Even your voiceovers seemed more relaxed in this one. Keep up the great work. Also, I wish I was in southern California, because I really want that desk!
I want this desk, i really love that you've stayed so creative for so long. It's a struggle to keep this up week after week. I appreciate you sticking with it and making quality unique items.
My library and I want this desk. We'll, I do, and I expect I can convince everyone else, provided it doesn't hit the (all too minimal) public library budget. But it would be an exceptional reference desk (my workstation) so I can cover some cost personally as a donation, and also commit to maintaining the materials' mutual moveability. (You're welcome.) And it would contribute to the library's tres-modern aesthetic. Late edit to add: Should've mentioned that the library is nowhere near Socal, so yeah shipping.
I really like this new format Shaun! And whatever it is what you want to do next to your videos, just do what makes you happy, because that comes across. The woodworking is excellent anyway, so everything around it is a lot of you and your mood showing through! Excellent desk by the way, wonderfully done!
I think the key in that mechanism is that you must lift at evenly pace directly upwards, otherwise those slats will bind hard. Thus, when you tested it yourself you might have lifted slightly unevenly making it binding. On the other hand, the motor lifts it precisely just up and down and therefore it works However, if motor just beats the binding force of slats just because it is powerful enough, the I think that there is risk of overheating/overloading the motor.
That piece is absolutely amazing. Chris and you both inspired me to set up my tiny shop and start trying to do some stuff. You do have an impact on us, in this case all across to the southern hemisphere. Do whatever you like, I'll be watching
"I want that desk!!" I am a person that cares more about aesthetic than I'd care to admit, and even though the utility of sit/stand desks is great, I've never honestly considered them for myself and my work because of how they look. This is the first time I've seen a sit/stand base integrated into a great design in a way where it feels like there were no concessions made for it! Forget about the ad integration, this was just a plain good video with a great design challenge and an amazing result!! Glad you're making the decision to focus on making videos and projects that are more enjoyable to make, I think it definitely comes across in the videos when you are passionate about a project. Cheers!
Beautiful desk. You've inspired me to get back to work making mine. I've had a 10ft walnut slab sitting in my shop waiting for inspiration how I'd do the legs. Thanks for the ideas, the frustrations, the quirks that come with building bespoke furniture. Looks great! PS You keep doing you. Its a good vibe and I'll keep coming back for more. You're one of the best - if not _the best_ - woodworking channels on YT.
Quite a relief when the final mechanism worked. I think the issue wasn't the fit, it was that with so many long interfaces, the tiniest bit of racking would bind it - just being a bit offset in the forces you were applying would cause that. The mechanical mechanism pushed it straight up so no racking.
I want that desk!! Love this new style of video. After all these years feels refreshing almost like the older days when I first started watching your channel. Love the outcome and love your personality coming through more!
I would say it worked out because the lifting legs are actually moving straight up and down thus allowing the slats to slide properly. Lifting straight up and down humanly would be near impossible. Especially with that much weight. It’s an awesome design!
Cool build Shaun. The interconnecting slats give the desk an iconic look that instantly makes me want one. Videos are excellent. You put a lot of work into editing, voiceovers, and camera work and it shows.
I watched your videos before you and Chris combined and also watched his as well. I really enjoy each of your different styles, but didn’t enjoy the videos ya’ll did together as much as I enjoy watching your solo videos. Great video! Keep up the great work and showing the struggles you have…..it gives us novice woodworkers hope!
Honestly, I really liked this style of video way more, it was more enthusiastic and felt more like you were just talking to a friend explaining what went wrong or what went right, I feel like this one-to-one moments you introduced worked really well!
I’m in SoCal and I think this piece would tie my small place together, as someone who works off my bed when at home. Your passion shows through in your work and your work is appreciated.
I want that desk! My girlfriend works from home at a dining table and has always talked about an adjustable desk. In any case, it's beautiful. I'm in L.A. and happy to pick it up! Cheers!
I want that desk. Good effort in sticking with the concept. Always easy to bag it or change your vision, but you got there, for all of us to see your vision.
This is the most creative approach to one of these desks that I have seen. Most people have drawn attention away from the base by making the top special but you really embraced it and enhanced it with a very interesting solution. I was actually more afraid that it would lift up but not come back down. 😅
That was a good lesson that I often forget. Sometimes you get locked in on what seems to be a fail. You just need to step away, clear your head, and come back at it with a fresh perspective.
Dude it’s gorgeous and thank you for all the videos. Honestly, the vids before were great but the new format I’m vibing with also. Basically there’s people like me in so cal that will be forever renters and dreaming of having a garage or a woodshop one day. For now, I get to live vicariously through your vids so I appreciate them all. If you don’t have someone for the desk, I’d love to pick it up! Kudos to you for keeping at the game!
I love the new format. You’ve always had bits of personality shine through but I think this format really suits you. Wish I could get something like that but I live on the opposite coast.
Just reached the end, I hope you enjoyed making this one more because it was the best video in a long time. I was sort of hoping for a little rhyme at the end like the old days 😉
I like "seeing" your personality during failure and progress. It makes my experience more normal not thinking that I can't do it like you because I make too many mistakes.
I want that desk. It kinda trippy to watch it "come apart" as it rises. Very nice finished product and gives me hope because you showed that even the pros make design mistakes. Thanks.
I want that desk! Love the new video format. But I also loved the old ones and miss the joke at the end and the laying on the piece thing. Do what makes you happy!
I thought you were being a little different, but honestly I like both versions. But at the end of the day it’s whatever makes you happy and you enjoy more. I’ll still be here no matter what.
Honestly ive always liked your videos, but injecting a bit more of your personality and getting some face time is never a bad thing and really does invite people into getting to "know" you, the guy behind the cool furniture. I think the key in that mechanism is that you must lift at evenly pace directly upwards, otherwise those slats will bind hard. Thus, when you tested it yourself you might have lifted slightly unevenly making it binding. On the other hand, the motor lifts it precisely just up and down and therefore it works
However, if motor just beats the binding force of slats just because it is powerful enough, the I think that there is risk of overheating/overloading the motor.
That piece is absolutely amazing.
Chris and you both inspired me to set up my tiny shop and start trying to do some stuff. You do have an impact on us, in this case all across to the southern hemisphere. Do whatever you like, I'll be watching
"I want that desk!!"
I am a person that cares more about aesthetic than I'd care to admit, and even though the utility of sit/stand desks is great, I've never honestly considered them for myself and my work because of how they look. Cheers!
Really appreciate that!
I want this desk for my Son please. No BS possibly the best thing I’ve seen any TH-cam woodworker make.
It’s a great feeling when a plan comes together. Great design beautiful table
Flipping sweet man! So creative and I think this looks way better than your typical standing desk.
Thanks man! It was definitely a challenge.
I want that desk! It looks incredible
i like your personality coming through more, you're fun and spirited
I’m in SoCal and I think this piece would tie my small place together, as someone who works off my bed when at home. Your passion shows through in your work and your work is appreciated.
I want that desk! My girlfriend works from home at a dining table and has always talked about an adjustable desk. In any case, it's beautiful. I'm in L.A. and happy to pick it up! Cheers!
I want that desk.
Good effort in sticking with the concept. Always easy to bag it or change your vision, but you got there, for all of us to see your vision.
What a stunning desk. All the headaches were well worth it for the final result.
Best build I’ve seen so far for this left table
I want that desk. My son lives in LA and is an architect that works a lot from home. Great job. That is gorgeous.
This is the most creative approach to one of these desks that I have seen. Most people have drawn attention away from the base by making the top special but you really embraced it and enhanced it with a very interesting solution. I was actually more afraid that it would lift up but not come back down. 😅
Just came to comment that the syncing of the nail gun to the music was nice and clean.
So, kudos to the artistic attention for the video.
That was a good lesson that I often forget. Sometimes you get locked in on what seems to be a fail. You just need to step away, clear your head, and come back at it with a fresh perspective.
Starting the videos with the finished result would be a plus! Great video!
2 minutes in, loving the talk to camera and free flowing chat. Been watching a long time, this is a nice touch.
I'd love to have that desk for my wife! Beautiful work as always, and I'm glad you're having fun again. Keep it up!
I want that desk!
Best take on a standing desk design I've seen by far.
Easily the coolest desk ever. I want that desk
I thought you were being a little different, but honestly I like both versions. But at the end of the day it’s whatever makes you happy and you enjoy more. I’ll still be here no matter what.
