Disclaimer: This diy floor method (with vinyl tape) is not something I’ve tested the removal of yet. You’ll have to wait until I move out to see how that goes 🙃

You can if you are diligent and if it's worth it for you! You dont need 20% downpayment, a lot of times 5% is all you need. Start with the smallest, cheapest house you can find if that's where your income is at. A good credit score and income that will generously cover your mortgage and living expenses. A lot of the time your mortgage will be cheaper than rent! Think of how landlords make a profit! Their mortgage costs less than what they charge for rent (if we are talking single family homes). I'm a real estate investor, and it takes a little bit of risk but it's worth it

One of THE best things about renting teeny apartments in one of the most expensive cities in the entire US, is that usually the rooms are so small and floor space so little that it really doesn't cost me much at all to do my own repairs. Also, landlords tend to want the same person in the unit so I stay fot years, not just after the year lease is up... and at that point they are usually really cool about any repairs that I do so long as it is an upgrade and that I don't paint my walls black. Otherwise, either I can fix it when I move, they can keep it that way, and it's a small price to pay for not having to go through thr process of interviewing and getting new tenants.

I talked to him first, he agreed to let me paint as long as I paint everything back to the original color when I move out. When he came by for a checkup and saw how I painted, he loved it. I no longer live there but the last time I saw it go up on Zillow the walls were what I painted them. It was a funny situation and I’m glad he liked it hahah.

Some of these comment threads are filled with people shaming young adults for being upset that it feels like we will never be able to afford houses. And then giving advice on how to save money to buy a house, as if most of our saved money doesn't go towards monthly bills, car troubles, gas and food, etc. /:
While it is easy to give advice on saving money, it's also really easy to forget the economy, how expensive it is to BUY A HOME, how little we were taught to prep for the future, and how again, most of the saved money we have goes to bills, groceries, gas, or car emergencies, etc.
If I had a decent savings, the last thing I'd buy is a house, the first thing I'd buy is a reliable and cost efficient vehicle because my savings goes towards emergency car troubles 98% of the time due to not being able to afford a decent car 🤷🏼‍♀️
Y'all can preach money management, savings, etc, all you want.
But it won't make the housing market anymore affordable. Hell the renters market is barely affordable.
Most of y'all should think about whether the advice you're giving actually applies, and is helpful, or if you just feel like adding your 2 cents because you have nothing better to do /:
And no I don't want to hear about how if I just put down 3.5% down payment then I'll be able to-
    I don't have a 3.5% down payment.

I have always felt the same way. People would asked me, "why are you making someone else house nice" and I would reply, "right now this is my home, it's the place my family has holidays, birthdays, it's where my children are growing up, it's where my Husband has his friends over and my kids have sleepovers. So for now I treat it as if it were my home." You've got the right idea as far as far as I'm concerned 🥰 Edit: Landlords have always loved my upgrades, so that's an added plus as well!!
