Aaron should create his own garden area!!
Start to finish, completely on his own. That would be fun to see!

Hi from Finland! I've noticed many times in your videos you talking about trees in such admiring way, and that really has made me think about my own view about them. 75% of Finland is covered by forest, and I myself really have been taking it for granted. I of course enjoy trees and forests, but I've never really even thought that most people don't have them, in this quantity at least. So I guess, thank you, for making me even more thankful of the beautiful country I live in. BTW Finland is the most happiest country in the world, maybe beacuse of the forests? ;)

I know what you mean. I was born and raised in British Columbia and have always taken greenery and trees as a given. It wasn’t until I travelled extensively away from home that I realized how fortunate I was to live in such a beautiful place 😊

What a beautiful sentiment! Canada is blessed with trees as well. I live in Manitoba and our neighbour to the West,Saskatchewan, is pretty flat and treeless. But it is also beautiful in its openness and its ability to sustain grain farming. We’re pretty happy here in Canada too! 😁🇨🇦

I’ve lived in multiple states up and down the east coast my whole life and my experience is that during the day to day hustle of life you don’t “notice/pay attention” to the trees. But in the quiet moments going on a hike, being a passenger on a long drive, having a picnic. That’s when my soul singings in gratitude.

It’s funny about where you live , what you take for granted. I live in the midlands of South Carolina and I have lived surrounded by trees. We normally have to remove trees to build and garden where we live. But I love my trees and rain , which we have had one of the wettest few months in years.❤️

@@nancypatterson374 I have a love hate relationship with my trees because they all have the helicopter seeds. And spring cleanup is almost overwhelming. But once we get passed that, I fall in love with again. Lol

We live amidst massive white pines and towering oaks and maples on 1.5 acres here in NW WI. We struggle with nature vs. nurture. Do we leave the trees grow naturally or do we cut them down to nurture the gardens we want to grow. It's a real struggle for my husband to make the decision to cut or not to cut trees.

Hi Derek! You have a beautiful garden. I'm in pre-planning my back yard garden but after seeing your front entry, I am going to focus my efforts there. Could you share some of the plant names in front entry area and apx dimensions behind and in front of short picket fence. I'm in MD too with a blank canvas but struggling with too many possibilities.

    • @Derek-xr3uq
      @Derek-xr3uq ปีที่แล้ว +6

@@rebeccalisi4052 thank you! Behind the fence is a narrow strip, less than 2 feet. Those are knockouts along that edge, and though hard to see in those angles between each rose is a pocket filled with sedum. Some years I let the roses go tall, some I keep them more mounded and tidy, just depends on my mood that season. Along the other little stretch of fence are hydrangeas. The opposite side of the walk has Otto Luyken laurels for the low hedge and the two trees were cypresses that I carefully pruned often and heavy to keep around that size while trying to maintain that whimsical look - but I recently swapped those for junipers and transplanted the cypresses into the back. The other small shrubs are Nandinas and of course plenty of annuals and perennials fill in around which I switch up each year. Good luck with your garden!

Lived in southern New York much of my life. But living in London and California gave me such a deeper appreciation for the incredibly beautiful topography of a New York. Vibrant greens, beautiful massive trees, old stone walls and many streams, lakes and ponds. I also love having four full blown seasons. I don’t take my 100 year old oaks or 80 foot pines for granted at all! I love the Hudson River School of painting for this reason -the area really looks like that.

So about the trees. I lived most of my life in the east or southeast, so trees were just always “there”. But then I moved to Texas and I genuinely mourned not having the trees. I appreciate them now infinitely more than I ever did when they were everywhere.
When we purchased our home the main selling point is that the property is covered in very old, huge oaks and it is a balm to my soul! I am thankful for these trees every single day.

I’m in Virginia and live at a lake nestled in the blue ridge mountains, and trees are EVERYWHERE! They are gorgeous and we do take them for granted for sure! There are times I wish we didn’t have so many, as I really would love a little greenhouse, but would have to take down majors trees in order for that to happen.
I love having someone with you when talking about the beautiful gardens, it does add another dynamic to the video.

Appalachian Mountains - SW Virginia - we have an abundance of a variety of trees and everyone is precious! We recognize when a storm takes down a few limbs. It leaves a whole in the scenery much like when a family member is missing in a photo. We know how long it takes to grow a great hardwood, and like a child, we don't want anything to happen to it. We lost a great oak in a storm that was over 400 years old (older than our family settled on the land in 1700s) and we all cried. Months later, we drive by and all have a moment of silence and takes a while to uplift a sad mood. My husband I have traveled all over the US and many countries and we cannot imagine living anywhere else. There is something about the mountains, rivers and creeks, the trees, flowers, shrubs, native herbs, wildlife, peep frogs in the spring, and those unbelievably amazing sunrises and sunsets all year round.

I had a great experience with a landscape fairy garden! I had a small yard on a small-child filled cul-de-sac which had a fairly good sized berm in it. I made it into a fairy village and the kids had a blast with real imagination! They claimed their own houses where they “lived”. The rules were that they could play all they wanted, move the stuff around etc. but just don’t take it home with them. They were perfect! I got to know all the families and occasionally we’d have cupcakes! Sometimes little things the kids had of their own would show up too. It wasn’t flashy but was a real winner!

Trees are usually a part of the conversation for gardeners and homeowners alike here in the Midwest. That doesn't mean though that everyone likes them! Storm damage and disease, leaves or seed pods everywhere in the fall, and one more thing to mow around seem to be common complaints. But most agree that trees increase property values and help cool our dwellings. If they only knew the benefits of actually reducing stress and even improving thinking skills when a person of any age can look out a window and see trees! Fruit and nut trees are increasing in popularity along with fruiting bushes. One of the best projects I have done as a Master Gardener was to add a homeowner buy-in option when our neighborhood association was buying trees for a beautification project. Their price included delivery, installation, and warranty which encouraged several folks to go ahead and plant trees. It was a win in so many ways for our neighborhood!

I live on 4 acres in NE Texas (zone 8a) and the area is nicknamed the "Piney Woods." You asked if people in treed areas appreciate/notice the trees and I can honestly tell you that I admire mine every single day. Most of the pines on our property are Loblolly variety and are between 80'-100' tall. The rest of the tall native trees here are Sweetgum and Elm. I love your videos and have learned so much. You inspired me to finally get a greenhouse, 12x24, which was installed in October by a wonderful company called East Texas Greenhouse. They pre-fab it at their warehouse and then deliver and set up all the parts. My husband is building his first raised bed and it's looking great.

I made a fairy garden inside an old bird feeder. My Grands loved it and it was quite hidden tucked away. We made a little twig swing in it. Moss as grass and I bought three fairies representing the three grands. Now they’re as past that stage and the bird bath is now got water in it. So much fun

You should incorporate a splash pad for the kids somewhere. Easy to maintain, tuck in, it's not a liability. All kids love water.

I live on 5 acres in a heavily forested area. I can tell you that I definitely do not appreciate the trees nearly as much as i should. When we travel to the desert, I notice the wide open skies and larger views. Each area brings their own kind of beauty!

We have a farm with a forest behind our house, and I truly don't take it for granted. I'm from Indiana, and we had state parks near our homes growing up, now living in East Tennessee I feel like I have been blessed with two of the most beautiful places to live. One filled with farms, the other mountains.

I live in the NW suburbs of Chicago and work on the 8th floor. Even from just the 8th floor up you can see that these suburbs are all trees. I never really appreciated them until I started working there with that view. It’s beautiful.

with the wind you guys get, you would need a way to anchor the posts for flowers sitting on top. my husband and i made some with square posts painted black and in our area, we don't have tons of wind, we just put nails in top and bent and hooked baskets in them. we did however, use anchors to put in ground for posts for extra support

2nd comment- I live in Portland, OR & I never take the beautiful trees that surround me for granted. As my mom got older (rest her dear soul) I would take her for short walks & she would literally hug the trees. She would wrap her arms around them & thank God for their beauty. We buried her ashes underneath 2 gorgeous old growth trees in a local cemetery. She is literally buried between their trunks. We had chosen this spot over 20 years ago & reserved it for her. I cannot imagine her ashes being anywhere else. I know her spirit energy is surrounded by beautiful trees 🌲 🌳. Thank you for reminding me of the beauty around me. ❤

My husband built me a pergola that we hung swings from. We attached a little 2 story play house to the side of the pergola. There was a very small sand box with the play set. My kids are grown and we moved the play house made of cedar to another area to access a zip line. The little sandbox now has hostas growing from it. I wanted something that would look good in my garden and grow with the kids. It worked out beautifully.

All types of evergreens from bright lime green, yellows, oranges, to the blues and silvers.
