I used to go to Oswego and see him run the Supers and he also used to run Spencer Speedway in Williamson on Friday Nights Back then he ran a 427 Ford in both cars but later switched to the Chevy.
Wow Great Tribute Vids! I was at Star Speedway in Epping when it came over the P.A. that we lost Jim all those years ago. And another time then at Lee USA Speedway when we lost Richie Evans. I was shocked and saddened. :( Ride on Jimmy! Thanks for the memories in the old Green Machine Crazy 8!
Great tribute to the best supermodified driver and builder EVER period!.I loved watching him dominate on a weekly basis.I miss the old days at this great speedway watching Bentley,Warren Coniam and My favorite of all time was Jimmy Winks.
Hi, just want to share my thanks for creating this. I saw Jimmy race and have only missed one Classic since 1982. His ingenuity and creativity are amazing. The 199 lap Classic story is one of sportmanship and class that is only matched by the year that JS let Gioia take out the new Super to decide the championship on the track after he had crashed his own car.
DEAR wove03,when i was a kid in newbrunswick canada we had a local track in Douglastown. The cars were hobby class cars, nothing special really but i loved it just the same. Then one hot july night ,Jim Shampine ,and the rest of the gang showed up!I couldnt sleep for days! The cars were breath taking, and Jim took the time to give this starry eyed kid an autograph.I will never forget that night when i stood in the shadow of a man who was ten feet tall!
A visionary innovator and driver, it was a real experience to see Jim's machines in the pit area let alone in action on the track, unfortunately life is a paradox of great things, triumph walking hand and hand with tragedy.
When I was a kid playing with my Dinky cars. this is the man I wanted to be. I had the.... I don't know what you call it. But I was at Osweego for his last race and that fateful crass happened right in front of me. Long live the 8 Ball!!!!
Some sports heroes should live for ever jim was one of those.
Jim was truly one of the most ingenious inovators and fabricators among the super modified ranks.
