This is a question that has bothered people in the modern times, even though no one criticized the Prophet of Islam for marrying Aisha before recently. Even the staunchest enemies of prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), who lied about him to the people, who accused him of being a magician, who tortured his followers, who tried to assassinate him and threw stones at him, never ever had any critique about him marrying Aisha at a young age. If this was a blameworthy thing to do, his enemies at his time would have been the first ones to use it against him. Just because it is not common to do something today, does not make that thing wrong. If we were to decide right and wrong from what is common one would today criticize all Prophets of God for preaching against relationships outside the boundaries of marriage between men and women, because today it is common in the West to live in fornication and it does not matter which gender you are living with. If you read carefully, in UK, IN 1800 is legal to marry 7 years old in that time.
So in america back then, if you look back in 1700, marry to underage is nothing crucial and legal.

1. Nothing prophet Muhammad did was without revelation. So when he proposed to marry Aisha, it was not for his desires.
2. When he married her, they did not get intimate until she was ready to have children.
3. In the old times, it was a custom to ask for a hand in marriage at a young age.
4. Due to Aisha being with the prophet from a young age, this made her the bright and powerful woman we know today. (she memorised the whole Quran and also had with her 2600 Hadith that nobody else knew...thats why nobody narrated more Hadith that Aisha)

It took enlightened people like Abraham, or Jesus, or I suppose the image of Muhammad that increased such standards over time. Today, that is not acceptable. I used to play with the dolls in the presence of the Prophet, and my girl friends also used to play with me. When Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) used to enter (my dwelling place) they used to hide themselves, but the Prophet would call them to join and play with me. (The playing with the dolls and similar images is forbidden, but it was allowed for `Aisha at that time, as she was a little girl, not yet reached the age of puberty.) (Fath-ul-Bari page 143, Vol.13

That's today, but 1400 years ago in a hot climate, 9 years old was a common age for marriage. Even today in places like India it's normal for girls to hit puberty at 10. Also Aisha ra never said anything bad about the Prophet pbuh, even after his death, he was the best husband. Plus many influential people of the past had young brides like Richard II or Stephen I of Hungary and many others. Don't look at it like its 9 old today, which 18 years old today can do what she did at 18 ? Its not the same.

First of all he claimed him as a son after he grew up but before that he was his slave. Second of all Zainab is from a noble lineage and wanted to marry Prophet (SAW) from the beginning. But she was given to Zayid (his adopted son) in marriage even tho he was slave and that was kinds of dishonor for her family but the prophet (SAW) interceded for him and claimed him as his son so then she agreed. When Zayid divorced her it got even worse because he is from low lineage (Because he used to be slave) and divorced his wife who is from high lineage. This was bad for the honor of her family and the prophet (Saw) felt responsible. Then revelation came that He (saw) should marry her which restored honor back to her family and had a happy ending. unfortunately after 1400 years some people who can not even accept the first concept which is that God is one and should be worshiped enter into his marriage life which was no problem and try to confuse others. Try to do more research.

It is very simple. Aisha was not a virgin and probably around 20 years old. And the Prophet (saws) married her because to him all people mattered and he did not want her to lead a life in shame. This was not acceptable to the Arabs. So the Arab scholars wrote that Aisha was 6, so she HAD to be a virgin.

George she was only 6 years old when he brought her home to his wife as his extra wife.When he died from poisoning she was still only a girl of 18 years old and she was forbidden to have any other man as all his other wives were forbidden to marry again.

Then when they were ready, physically and mentally mature, where no harm could come, then the marriage would be consummated. This was the norm in the Prophet's (saw) time, it doesn't mean that we should get our children getting married before 10, nowadays it doesn't work, currently at 9 a person is very much a child. The problem is that people frequently compare the standards of today, to 1400 years ago in Arabia, which doesn't make sense because you are going to have a lot of contradictions. It is also important to note that people from all cultures found it acceptable to marry very young 'women', 100 years ago in England a girl could get married at 7 years old, for this reason no one even brought up this issue until recent times.

Alright so in Islam there is no set age to marry, yet if this occured you'd have to be assessed whether you are physically and mentally able to do so. If we compare the two different societies of today and the past views change drastically. As a society today we would speak out against an issue we don't agree on. In the past society had no issue of this at all, as females were getting married off at ages of 12, if we look at medieval Europe females would marry at round about 11-14 which was the societal norm of the time. The Prophet Muhammad didn't go round picking and choosing women he never did so. They came to him on the means of his character and attitude.
Muslim sources say that Aisha RA, married between the ages of 9 - 15. As of course as stated earlier in my response European females would get married off during the ages of 11 - 15. As of course this was the societal norm and cultural norm of the time.

There is a big conflict amongst the Islamic Scholars about the age of Ayesha. Some says she was 9 , 11,or 13 etc. But It was sure that She was in adultery age at that time.
The Prophet (ﷺ) wrote the (marriage contract) with `Aisha while she was six years old and consummated his marriage with her while she was nine years old and she remained with him for nine years (i.e. till his death) Sahih al -bukhari 5158 . Directly talks about age from Sahih source rather than all "intellectual' acrobatics by modern day muslim apologists

The meaning of these translations all circulate around something that is mixed and that has a separate and distinct existence. The verb fataq is translated into “We unstitched” “We clove them asunder” “We separated” or “We have opened them”. These meanings imply that something comes into being by an action of splitting or tearing apart. The sprouting of a seed from the soil is a good example of a similar illustration of the meaning of the verb fataq.

Also our ancestors practiced child marriage where one child was married to another child not a child to a grandpa!
