Wow - what a difference! Well done Dave, really enjoyed following along with that (even though half the time I didn’t know what I was looking at - you could say I’ve learned lots! Super generous of Randy donating that. 👍🏻
Very nicely done, and you made something you can use for a transmission jack as well! I think you have a differential that is desirable for sure. Don't sell that cheap, lol
I saw you hammering the rear axles back into place. I had bought some tri parts cars and parts and thought they slid in more since they have a spline, I was worried about forcefully putting them in but looks like a little love tap is what maybe needed. thanks for the detail.
It may want to download an app for a speedometer and check it against your speedometer so you don't start getting tickets you need to change the gear in the transmission to compensate the gear change
Good job Dave. May have saved the life of the old diff. Posi 's requires special oil, clutches will be destroyed with regular diff oil. I'm willing to bet that old diff is from a latter year. If not mistaken posi was only available in corvettes in 57. Very limited. Check number on ring gear an pinion possibly after market either way very desirable housing and carrier assembly. Would be able to replace gears to something more streetable
Funny you mention the oil. I'm just emptying the drip tray, and the oil is REALLY thick, almost like liquid grease. Is that what you thought it would be like?
@@ScottRods it's been a long time since I messed with diffs. Can't remember the cosisity of the oil, but what happens is the clutches become contaminated causing them to stick to the plates ( one side has to release when turning ) rear will snap
@@ScottRods didn't mean snap had finger jump trying to correct. Lol ment to say wheel would lock then break free jumping motion until turn completed. Must use diff oil made for posi units. On original fill plug there was a tag warning to use special fluid.
The problem is, when the car is in the garage, I have no access to my tools and parts. I also don't like welding and grinding next to the car, unless it's the car I'm welding and grinding, lol.
About time ... I'm just razzin ya Dave.. can't wait to hear it.. you know it sounds tremendously better, just the tin of the hood is rattling.. sound deadening works great so far Dave. Maybe shim the hood with bits o rubber?
Very happy for you. For not ever attempting it you made it look like you had many times. Well done sir
Dave excellent job, made a big difference.
I liked the laying down 1 leg jacking motion. You do what you got to do, getter done. Thanks for sharing. It's coming a long great.
Hahaha, well spotted.
Good job...engine sounds alot happier

Great to hear you like it better Dave !
Nice job that's way better now you should be doing 2300 at 60mph now
Great job! That will make it so much nicer to drive.
Great job Dave.

well done Dave and ty Randy now bugsy can make it all the way down to my place =-)
Yes, and no. I discovered something underneath that requires immediate attention.
@@ScottRods leaking ?
@@timatwell3728 No, it's not related to the diff or trans.
Nice job, and man it looks cold there :)

Been a while since I did this. Everything is still perfect. Maybe if I was stronger I wouldn't need a hammer, lol.

I have an app, and my speedo doesn't work, so we're good hehe
Hopefully you hold onto the old diff cause it’s posi and get a smaller gear for it!!!!?????
I'll put it on a shelf for a future project.
I would keep the other diff head Dave just in case you want to put it down the 1/4 or 1/8 one day
Well that turned out well, and maybe you can recoup a little cash, selling the old dif
OUTSTANDING!!
Much better cruising gears.
I thought you put in a proportioning valve ?
Yes, I need to adjust it. But as I say, tires were frozen. It was minus 10 out there

Part 5 how to build a new stealth hot rod
Dave you’re really laying down some nice welds awesomeness!!!!!
I only ever do good welds on really crap items.
seems its very cold in Canada..what oil you pour into the diff?
Have to ask - why are you doing all this outside in the cold? Is the garage that tight for room?

Big improvement. Easier on your engine, and improved fuel mileage too! Well done. Windows, ehh.
hahaha, I've gone this long without windows, what's the point now?
@@ScottRods Just had to rib you a bit! New differential will make huge difference. Congrats!

About time you went to the gym Dave lol 😂🤣🤣😂
