Largest ring camera/lens mounted light I have ever seen. 10 years before that one hit the market you would of needed an assistant to help hold it up. Great vid. You always give great creative demos.

I watched David Bergman's explanation about the ring light (using the same light), and seemed to dismiss it as something from the 80's. I really liked the photos of Sophie with the glow from the exposed ring light. The ethereal glow looked awesome and I doubt it could be recreated that well in post. Sophie's poses and the outfit also really works. Well done to you both!

    • @GavinHoey

Totally coincidental timing but it's funny how David and I used the same light but in vastly different ways.

I have the smaller ring light that fits on the end of the lens, (probably like most home studios) I've never thought of using it on its own before. I have sometimes just used it to put a ring catch light in the eyes. But having watched your video its on my to try list now. Also thanks for the reminder about the front/rear curtain settings.

Hi Gavin, I am always hanging to see the next video on your channel, especially using flash.I don't think there's a single video I haven't watched at least half a dozen times to learn the craft. I am a Canon user and don't have a 12-40 mm lens which looks to be your go to lens for portraiture. It might be a bit of a silly question but can you tell me at what focal length you tend to take your portraits at and why you don't use perhaps a 50 or 85mm? I might have answered my own question (the 12-40 is your favourite) but I am interested. :)

Both are flash photography,,, so which is correct? this is just a query..
