It’ll be a brilliant idea if they have a good 2025. If not, it’ll be on to new coaches. I’m not sure anyone can tell at this time. There are many ways to peel a banana so it’ll be interesting to see if this works.
I will reserve judgment until the spring of 2025 to see if they are indeed self-coached - in other words, how much of this "asking them to be more self-reliant" is PR and how much is it about Kristian's disappointment with the training prescription he received for Paris (which he has talked about publicly).
Thank you so much for this interview. Very good questions and Olav answered so normal stupid as me can understand. ( Even he is from 🇳🇴 Norway, 😉) Really interesting. When my daughter was elit triathlete around 2010, I told her to hurry take her merits, before the Norwegian find the sport. Because we know from the running sport , country skiing sport that Norwegians they are so good. The mountains train them from early age. Christian and Gustav have so much knowledge so I’m not worried. Marie-Louise 🇸🇪
Interesting!! Very few tennis players have been successful without a coach. I can understand going to a more junior coach, but it must be a big change. Time will tell!!
So "simply slightly changing the dynamic" (James's words) is that Gustav and Krisian will "take over responsibility for training" and "write their own plans" (Bu's words). To me, he is no longer their coach, and the rumors were not really that exaggerated (except for the part where they fired Bu, which he denies - then again, he also said Kristian was going to try to win the Tour de France and suggested Kristian had a 105 VO2max, so he says things...). Interesting snippets on Kristian's power in Paris, etc. Very informative!
Olav giving an amazing answer The interviewer: "Yeah, great insight" This is honestly the worst converstation I've ever heard. Ask him about stuff he says during his explanations, listen to what he's saying and try to be more natural instead of just reading questions from a paper. This is awful
What do you think of Olav Bu's decision to make Kristian Blummenfelt and Gustav Iden more self-reliant? 🤔

@@trbeyondI like that: “there are many ways to peel a banana”.
@@jimjamthebananaman1. As a banana man, perhaps you can provide some expert advice here?!

Thank you Olav and James for sharing this insightful interview!
Our pleasure! Glad you enjoyed it!
Really fascinating interview! Also impressive how to keep it light with humour when talking about something rather technical 😅

Why don’t you stick to watching something better suited to you, such as Teletubbies or Peppa Pig.
