    Thanks for the review! I just picked up one of these recently for my fledgling channel focusing on pov trail running and hiking around Victoria BC. So far, so good. I found the pendant is good for hiking only, and the best camera position for running is to clip it on the back band of a running cap vs the bill. And also thanks for the inspiration to get out there with a camera. I really have no idea what I'm doing but it's fun!

    I love the go series of camera. Its so fun and easy to use. I wish the 3 worked with the go 2 power mount tho. I use a battery bank with the go 2 and run it for hours on loop with the extended battery and then edit footage down later. I can still mount it on my chest no problem with a small wire coming from a battery in my pocket.

    I really like the dynamic range - the sky is nice and blue. Also as you show at 2:20 - would it be possible to mout that "display" piece on hand like a watch? i was always missing something like that when shooting my runs.

    • @JeffPelletier
      @JeffPelletier  ปีที่แล้ว

      You could easily mount this to your wrist with the right attachement, but you’d have to be careful of arm swing - I suspect you’d be better of simply holding it in your hand in that case, since you couldn’t move your arm much anyway.

      @@JeffPelletier i mean only that monitor part, and having the camera on the cap like you had... or the vest. Basically to have free hands for trail stick for example but having the monitor handy to keep the framing correct.

    Thinking of getting this as a gift for a marathon runner to capture POV shots on the runs. It seems much more lightweight than other options out there. How is battery life compared to others?

    Hi! I’m looking for a camera for my OCR races (like Spartan Race and so on). I have the Insta360 X4, but I don’t think it’s the best camera for those kinds of races. Maybe this one would be better. The thing is, when you jump into water or mud… yeah… I guess no camera would be fine for those kinds of situations… maybe if it’s on my head, but… which camera would you recommend for those kinds of races? This one as well? Thanks.

  • @afewmominutes
    @afewmominutes ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Ooooo this is tempting. Great review Jeff. Did you have any issues with battery life? I did read that the case does not have a detachable battery so I'm guessing the life won't last for a long race, but would be handy as you said at aid stations and certain times. Thanks for the comprehensive review!

    • @JeffPelletier

      I don’t tend to record (with any camera) for extended periods of time, instead just for shorter bursts. I believe you get a couple of charges in the pod itself, but I haven’t worked out how much total runtime that would give you.

      Nope, for that you’ll want the Insta360 X line (X2 and X3) which are their 360 cameras.

    I'm a joggler and need a stable, quality pov of my runs. I'm also looking for a model I can encase for pov of the props I juggle while running. Would this camera be the most appropriate tool?

    • @JeffPelletier
      @JeffPelletier  ปีที่แล้ว

      If you're looking to record hands-free, then then this could be a good option. A larger action camera like a GoPro would provide better quality but typically requires that you hold it in your hand.

    do we have any other action camera in such a small form factor like Insta360 GO?
    I want to attach the camera to my cap and forget about it. It must record steady videos.
    If I use chest mount the camera will move way more than if mounted on head.

    Hi, what are the best settings and the best position to put the camera for trail running? Thanks

    • @sullfolife
      @sullfolife ปีที่แล้ว +1

      i have the GO2 i put the plastic black clip on my hat personally, found it's the most practical rather than the magnetic necklace, i found out that having the clip on the hat buckle (back side) is better than on the sun breaker flat part of the cap, because it's sticking out the flat part tend to be wobbling and that sort of doesn't help the stabilization..
      i personally think the sweet spot is to mount the support clip on the back side of your hat, then you put the camera in it and literally can forget it.. and then when you want to film, because you'll most likely only going to capture 10-30 seconds footages of your 1-3h run adventure you can flip the hat 180 degrees and you use it for the video. i love that camera!!

    How about running in the dark? I run or have to mostly run before the sun comes up or the sun has already gone down. It's very dark outside and am looking for camera options that help in the dark. How does this work? Do you have other suggestions?

    • @JeffPelletier
      @JeffPelletier  ปีที่แล้ว

      Most action cameras perform quite poorly in the dark because of their small sensors, and this would be no different. The stabilization typically requires a higher shutter speed which needs lots of light. So I don’t think there’s anything I could recommend for filming in the dark.

    Thanks for this valuable post, Jeff. I am both a road and trail runner. Will this camera be useful when there is action during the race and the pulse and speed are high? I'm not wearing a hat. As far as I can see, it can be attached to the chest with the help of a magnet. Which camera do you recommend, this one? X3?

    • @JeffPelletier
      @JeffPelletier  ปีที่แล้ว

      You might find that your chest moves too much to wear it there while running. For that, I’d recommend either the X3 or a GoPro.

    • @JeffPelletier
      @JeffPelletier  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Good question. I could see it being useful for anyone who wants to capture adventure sports for other use, but it’s probably not the most practical investment for the average person just filming home videos.
