Excellent video - I do like Dumaguete for the reason some people doesn't like it: foreigners and the amenities that go with a big expat presence; I made heaps of fiends during my last visit and planning to meet more people ; you cannot have enough friends 😁

I spent several nights at North Point when I was there in March. Awesome restaurants, great live music, great view of the ocean. The ambiance was amazing and very relaxing. Definitely my favorite part of town. I will be in the Philippines in two weeks for 3 to 4 weeks. I will land in Manila and stay there for at least a few days. Hopefully, I can make it back to Dumaguete. I was there for two weeks and loved every minute of it. The Sunday market in Valencia was also nice. Forest Camp in Valencia was a cool place to stay. I also spent a weekend in Siquijor. So, what Gio said about Dumaguete being a great central location is on point!

For me, temperature and humidity would play a major role too. I've found an hidden gem with very low prices, fresh climate, almost zero expats. What I don't like about Dumaguete:
    1) Brownouts and bad internet. I work online, I couldn't afford that.
    2) Too many expats.
    3) A *LOT* of "professional" Filipinas who live by scamming those 70 old expats while also video-scamming 6-7 other "LDR" expats at the same time.
    4) You being a foreigner does not really give Filipinas that "exotic" vibe any more.
    5) Prices are not the best.

Thank you for your video, Gio. I was in Dumaguete for the month of January this year, 2024. I stayed in a small hotel about a half mile south of the point where you stopped walking south on the beach-front boulevard. I would walk the half mile north virtually every day to the North Point commercial complex and get coffee and or a meal there. There's a nice little coffee shop that converts into a bar at night there owned by a friendly German guy. I got to know one of the baristas at the coffee shop, her name was "Menche." I'm sorry I never got to say goodbye to her before I had to get up to Manila to get my flight back to the States. If you happen to see her would you please tell her that "Tom" from the States says "hello." Thanks.
The coffee shop is called "Break Time"; it appears at 11:07 in your video.

We would-be expats would get more knowledge of Dumaguette from your videos if you turned the camera forward so we could see the roads and start building a mental map of the roads and the lay of the land. (Even better would be a 'geo tracker' in the corner of the video where we could see on a roadmap where you are going. After a handful of those, and we could show up in Dumaguette and get around town like a native :)

So, do you think you think you began to appreciate Dumaguete more because Maya and her family made you feel more at home there than anywhere else?

I did stay though at the Sierra Hotel ( which was excellent) near the Race Car resto and also (i think its called) the Treehouse resto. Do you know if there is any live acoustic music in the North Point area at night?

I was there in March and saw a phenomenal reggae band on a Wednesday night. I don't remember which restaurant, but it was in the area where Gio is at. I saw another band that was ok on a different night. The ambiance is amazing and very relaxing there at night. You get to have dinner and look out over the ocean. Not a lot of people there when I was having dinner and listening to the reggae band. Too bad for them because they were awesome. The girl I was with wanted to hear a specific song. He said he would sing it towards the end of the show. I game him 500 pesos and he was very appreciative and sang it. Then other people started making requests. So, they made some extra cash that night because of us. I would book those guys for a personal party if I lived there. Two more years for me.

Gio, liked the walk. Can I ask where you stayed in Vietnam & why you didnt like it? I personally would shy away from living there just due to their Visa situation. It does look like a beautiful country however.

That is something of a relief. Was contemplating the possibility that the closures were indicative of a major national trend, such as seems to be taking place in China.

Nice video... I was wondering more about places to avoid? In one of your video, where you were answering viewers questions, there was one are mentioned to avoid (Mafia or something). Could you maybe specify more precisely which areas Expats/Foreigners should avoid? Its not that I plan to travel whole Philipines, but knowing which areas are problematic, might be little help, when using online service like Christian Filipina, where girls are from all around the place...
