  • Day 1 of our travel across Uzbekistan. Don't wear shorts in the Fergana Valley. We cross the land border (Dostuk) from Osh, Kyrgyzstan and head to Andijan (Andijon), Uzbekistan (Ozbekiston). Andijan, is located in the conservative & volatile Fergana Valley region. It is here we actually meet another British traveller, also Matt. From Andijan, our aim was to catch a train on the capital of Tashkent...

Love the random fun facts you throw in along the way, so does Vauxhall actually mean train station as well? since the pronunciations are so similar? or did they say let's take that word put our spin on it, and make that our word for train station if so what is the original Russian word for train station so many questions I need a sit-down plus the shorts thing is so interesting never heard of anything like that for men. You guys are awesome the best travel vloggers on the Tubes spasibo bol shoi you taught me that dasvidania and that too.

    • @MattandJulia

Vauxhall is just a place name in London where a station was at that time, and that is where the British took the Russian delegation.
'Vokzal' is just, let's say, the Russian pronunciation of the word. Why did decided to adopt it as the name for train stations, I don't really know to be honest, maybe they thought that when the British said "we are going to Vauxhall" they thought that meant 'Station' so copied it 😁
No was no word for Train Station in Russian prior to Vokzal as far as I know as there were no trains.
Now, Vokzal, is the word used for train station throughout the entirety of the ex Soviet Union. Its like a little piece of British history living in the ex USSR 😊
Really interesting history, love querks like that 😊
