Hey Chris, i just wanted to send my love and appreciation for what you do. Over the past year, I’ve been learning how to drive, and my issue during the time was that I wasn’t able to practice driving outside of my paid lessons with the local driving school, so i would use your vids, along with The Topher and Tedward, to help as a way to study how normal experienced people drivers drove. From your road trips with Emily, to your commutes to downtown, I’ve watched just about any vid of yours i could in order to help myself improve between my lessons as much as possible, and on New Year’s Eve i officially became a licensed driver. So i just wanna send my thanks to you, and your friends for what you guys do, i love the reviews, and i love seeing you guys drive. Wishing you all the best, and a successful new year.

0:39 it’s not a CUV disguised as a wagon, it’s a Wagon disguised as a CUV. Sedans and Wagons don’t get their rear windows tinted from factory. CUVs do unless they’re economy base models, and the Crown Signia is not an economy car and your trim is Limited with the Tech package so not base.

I love it so much that I am considering buying a Crown Limited instead of a Tacoma. We have a super tight garage, and the cameras' auto-folding mirrors make parking so easy. I actually would like to see wagons return with a lower center of gravity and better height for entry/exit. I’d like to see better MPG figures on this car. Chris, Happy New year! You mentioned the mysterious torque figure at the beginning. I cannot give a complete answer but I can say the rear electric motor produces nearly as much torque as the 1.6 litre engine in my old Mazda 323. With spy photos suggesting the next Outback will be more of a boxy CUV, the Crown Signia may soon have the whole Japanese wagon market to itself. If that is the case, I hope Toyota brings in a LE to round out the XLE and Limited they already offer. On the subject of performance and economy, if I was lucky enough to own a Signia, it would never get near 3,500 RPM and I would be cruising at a velocity far below your 80 mph average. That approach would make those EPA numbers far more achievable. 😉

Nice review, a couple of things you didn't mention. No spare tire in the USA, just a fix a flat kit. The Signia also has towing capability of 2,700 lbs and a very nice voice command capability, like "turn my cabin temperature to 72 degrees", and with a microphone over each front seat, each can adjust vocally. The gauge cluster is almost 100% configurable, but not easy to adjust / configure until you spend an hour or so with the manuals / videos. Personally I'm expecting / hoping for a Platinum version with the higher power engine six speed transmission from the sedan, but it will likely push the price near $60k, but still saving money from the Lexus version in the RX.

Great review! I've been trying to find a way to grow up and break out of 4Runnerdom. I was aiming in this direction, but I'm not sure I could listen to that pitiful grown whilst trying to kick it around the highways. It's beautiful for sure, but I'm so tired of blacked out wheels. The GLX? ..would be better looking. Smaller wheels are so much better for potholes anyway. I look forward for more reviews from you.

Vehicle looks really nice and practical I feel, if a little overpriced for the spec / materials used .. I agree the CVT ‘whine is unacceptable to me. I traded my Outback XT touring which was also very jerky with simulated gear shifts after just 18 months for a Genesis GV70 which albeit more expensive feels like a luxury vehicle .. As I do only low mileage , I’m ok with the poor fuel efficiency as I really get excellent performance from the 2.5T

11:50 I disagree about the "CVT droning" being a real problem, as an actual toyota hybrid owner. First of all it's not that loud, in reality and day to day use. I've driven Toyotas and Lexuses with the eCVT(not CVT), it is one of the smoothest drivetrains out there. No jerking, no swings in power, no clutch or double clutch nonsense, instant torque...
And then 40-60% of the time the engine is completely off, but I don't see anyone mentioning this in reviews...or how it can cruise at highway speeds with 1500-2500rpm.

This car is aimed at soccer moms and middle-class families, it is pragmatic, it is a tall car so it's easy to get in and out, it has a lot of tech inside to make it easier to drive and more comfortable, it has a lot of room inside to fit a family, and the reason it uses a 4 cylinder hybrid cvt drivetrain is so you can have low fuel consumption.
This car isn't aimed at people looking for fun, status or luxury. This car is aimed at people who see cars as a transportation device.
And about the price: thank the government and inflation for that.
