Hank Sr was taught guitar by a blues man. He wrote all his songs before age 29. There are now 4 Hanks releasing music all of them are excellent. Hank 3 mixes thrash metal with hard core country. Hank 4 is just getting started with what i call alt country which is country but not chained to any formula.

The suit he's wearing is a "nudie suit" made by Nudie Cohen, who designed suits like this for all the big stars for a long time. He made Elvis' famous gold suit, and he also drove crazy awesome customized Cadillacs. Really, really cool guy, and it's worth reading up on him and diving down that rabbit hole. Dozens of nudie suits are in the country music hall of fame

Hank was awarded a citation for his songwriting and his influence in moving country music into the mainstream of american culture. He was a genius, writing over 3000 songs. He died at the age of 29. He was the top country performer of his day. and he has influenced generations of musicians and singers, including every country singer, Elvis, the. Beatles and Bob Dylan. 70 years after his death singers are still doing tributes to him.

So the legend is that Hank wanted to get a record contract with Fred Rose Publishing, who was one of the top producers in Country music...
Fred Rose told Hank, that if he could write a song and sing there during the interview, he would sign him as an artist...
Hank went in the next room and wrote "Mansion on a hill", and sang it to Fred Rose and got the contract!!!
" Mansion on the hill" became Hank's first song to chart, and the rest is history!!!💯👍👍👍

When I was a kid, I wasn't allowed to watch MTV, (back when they actually had music), but I was allowed to watch country music videos, I think that is why country, and oldies hold such a special place in my heart. It's because that was the music of my childhood. I grew up listening to it, and listening to the older stuff like this song, with my grandparents. I grew up in the '80s and '90s, and I'm not saying I didn't listen to any pop, I did lots of Tiffany, Cyndi Lauper, and madonna, but I think overall when I reminisce I go back to music that is a little older than I am actually.

One of the saddest songs ever written by the father of country music. The steel guitar on this song is absolutely iconic. You can't overlook 'Your Cheatin' Heart,' one of his biggest all-time hits, but he didn't just sing sad songs; some of his tunes were upbeat, even funny, like 'Settin' the Woods on Fire' and 'Howlin' at the Moon.'

Even though I'm 30, Hank Sr. is on my Mount Rushmore of favorite artists.
The dude was such a huge influence for having such a short career. Wrote and sang so many hit songs before passing at 29 years old in the back of his Cadillac on his was to a show on New Years Eve night 1952-1953.
Different artists, but he was getting Elvis-like star power, before Elvis. You can hear his music featured in some of the biggest movies like Forest Gump and Shawshank Redemption. His music was also featured in the Last of Us video game.
Here's an 8 minute compilation of all his televised live performances, which occurred on two broadcasts in 1952. Roughly 8 months before he passed. The compilation is the best quality video I've found of it. Hope the comment section allows me to post this link: th-cam.com/video/09nBiVU-D0Q/w-d-xo.html

I am so glad that you are getting to enjoy different types of music. There are a lot of older music that I consider timeless.

In the vein of Hank Sr’s legend, give a listen to Alan Jackson “Midnight In Montgomery”. Haunting and lovely.

My grandpa used to play the guitar and this was one of the songs he would play and sing. He loved Hank Williams. So do I

it's definitely a Williams family tradition. Hank Jr. daughter Holly Williams is a unbelievable instrument player and singer. Her and Shooter Jennings did a live version of "The Conversation" by Hank Jr. and Waylon Jennings. Williams and Jennings bloodlines can lay it down.

Hank Williams Sr. was royalty for sure. Here's another "Kenny Rogers - She Believes In Me (Live)" Hank Williams Jr. has an extraordinary story also. Great reaction👍

The hillbilly Shakespeare, his influence on not only country but he even crossed over into the pop field way back then which was unheard of, a huge influence on music of the day but even now also, check out some more of Hank Sr.

Here's a 8 minute compilation of his live video performances: th-cam.com/video/09nBiVU-D0Q/w-d-xo.html
There's only a couple of videos of him performing live, when he appeared 2 times on a televised show in 1952. About 8 months before his passing.
I listened to him my whole life and had only seen pictures, so it was trippy for me when I finally watched video of him doing these raw performances a few years ago. I think of him as a historical legend, so it was surreal to see him live and animated.

I'd like to suggest a few SR songs. Kaw-liga, Mind Your Own Business and Hey Good Lookin.
When you said Mister, it reminded me of a song by David Allen Coe called The Ride. Maybe for Halloween give it a listen too.

Ain't but 1 Hank Williams and that's Sr. He was a lyrical genius. Jr. would've never been what he was without the name. His dad died young. Had spina bifida. And died from a heroin overdose from his doctor. He had surgery and needed time off but managers insisted he fulfill performances. Very sad.
