These are basic standard perm rods. They come in a variety of sizes and are colour coded to make them easy to identify. Sizes range from jumbo to very small rods.The larger the rod size, the looser the curl. The smaller the rod size, the tighter the curl.
They are used to create various curls, from, firm body wave on short hair to spiral curls on medium length or longer hair. The smaller rods will create ringlets and the jumbo rods creates big, bouncy curls.
The more times the hair is wound around the perm rod directly creates the number of bends and curls.

Hey I was wondering if I can mix the white rod with the sand one will that look weird
I like a combination of the orange and the green. Maybe the sand one, but that may be a little too tight of a curl, for my own personal preference.

Hi there. Yes, purple and sand are perfect for that length of hair. You will get bouncy big curls.

Hi there. There are so many different types of curlers. This video only covers the cold wave perm rods. You will need to go to a professional perm tech to evaluate the condition of your hair prior to having a perm.

It seems some perm rods being sold today in metric sizes do not convert to the standard sizes once used. Some colors don't match neither.

Two rods on the same section of hair. One is rolled from middle to end the other is "piggybacked" from mid to ends in the opposite direction.
So as a guy, my hair takes a perm very well. I have gotten multiple perms and just actually grew out my hair to get a looser perm. I've gotten white and purple beforte and they ended up looking like yellows and blues for around 2-3 months. I am getting a perm this week, and I was wondering if I should instead get a jumbro green and orange?
Hey there,
I can't determine the best perm rod size without seeing the length of your hair. As shown in the perm rod video, the hair must wrap around the curler at least three times to form a curl. The rollers you used shouldn’t result in tight curls. Leaving the perm solution on too long might cause tight or frizzy curls. This is just a suggestion without seeing you.

Which rods were used on the mannequin head shown at the end? That's the type of curl I want. My hair length is about 2" past my shoulders.
Nope. Perm rods colors and sizes are not uniform for all brands.
A white perm rod by Diane is 7/16 (11.11mm).
A white perm rod by Annie is 3/5 (15.25mm). And now she's saying a white rod is 9/16 (14.28mm)
Pretty big difference. This really is so much more difficult than she makes it means I'll have to do a lot of math to perm my hair the way I want.
I wish what she said was true. That would make this SO much easier.😠
