  • Powerful, beautiful and painful is the best way I can describe this song.
With everything that's going on in Ukraine, this hit hard - even thought it was a fantastic performance and awesome song.
The video is brilliant, I loved the point of view and even though I sherd some tears, it was a great experience!

As a Finn, I "had to" learn Swedish at school. Our languages aren't related at all, but we have a complex history between our lands. I'm very happy that I can read Swedish books and understand this song and Swedish films and TV. And they were there for us in 1939, when the eastern bear invaded. Not statewide-officially, but their help was invaluable. I hope we (all) can do the same in the current situation. And a big thank you for your reaction! About the song, and everything else. ☺

      I understand what you're saying but the pragmatic truth of the matter is this;
You have misunderstood the entire purpose why all civilized nations find it necessary to teach their young citizens about history. They teach you about the past in order for you to better understand the present, so that you may become an informed adult that understands the nuances required of a citizen of a democracy.
The mandate and curriculum of your history teacher is decided upon by elected officials and ultimately your entire people. Sabaton, while being the greatest band in the world, simply wants you to masturbate to someone else's past glory.
So be nice to your teacher. They are not rivals in the slightest.

Sweden and Finland was the same country for around 700 years up until 1809, more than double than the south of Sweden. During this time Sweden had around 125 wars domestic and others. 34 of them against Denmark no one to Finland. So they didn't like us at all.

I am a US Navy Cold War Veteran. Although, I never saw combat, 'safe' in the engine room of an aircraft carrier. This song reflects my motivation to serve. To make the world safe enough to eliminate the need for my job. The fall of the Berlin Wall in 1989 made me feel like maybe we had accomplished that goal. Only to see it dashed the next year with the Iraqi invasion of Kuwait. This song's lyrics in English embody that feeling of "Will this ever end?".
I wish I understood Swedish to get the intended meaning. My hearing is declining rapidly and may not be able to hear well enough already to learn a new language. Im wondering how much of the music I am missing.

    • @TheDarkstormy

The subtitles are hit and miss, but they are generally accurate, so you won't miss much if you have those for this song. This album came in Swedish and English versions, the Swedish version which they obviously sing in Sweden, is more personal than the english versions, but there's not a lot missed in translation, and this would be the Carolus Rex album.

A channel with reactions to Nightwish, Rhapsody AND Sabaton, you just got a new follower
Jokes aside, amazing reaction, this song carries a special energy with it, especcially in these days, when we are reminded that war actually concerns us all, even though people might think otherwise. Seen the boys perform more than 10 times, but I always choke up and feel tears running when the violin section before the 1st verse starts, and I don't think I'll stop amytime soon❤

As a Swede I can also relate alot to this song as the current political climat is spinning out of control with Russia threatning us here in Sweden and Finland on pretty much a daily basis.
But if Putin and Co is stupid enough to attack Scandinavia I know for sure I will listen to Sabaton while defending my country, that's for sure \,,/

All war is a symptom of man’s failure as a thinking animal. A few prophetic words that sum up the futility of current events. It’s not difficult to be moved by current events. I take a great amount of pleasure when I see the selfless acts that others perform in order to bring some relief to the victims of one persons crass stupidity and thirst for power. I’ve really started to enjoy Sabatons music. Okay, so it generally has a war theme. However, they don’t judge…they let the listening audience do that. A powerful song clearly enjoyed by the audience. I loved it. It’s only a pity that it evokes a background of sadness given current events. A brave posting Sabina. But, a necessary one. I thank you for that. I’ve also loved the comments that people have so far made on the posting…it’s good to see that we have people with a moral and compassionate compass. One again Sabina, you have used great judgement in posting this track…a refreshing change to many other reaction channels that jump on the reaction bandwagon without any obvious care for what they post. Once again, you have demonstrated yourself as a decent human being with a feeling for events rather than a hunger for clicks and views..🙏🙏👏👏

This song works for literally any war but Sabaton is specifically singing about the 30 years war in this song which was in the 16th century when Sweden was involved in a big war that cost us an extreme amount of lives.
If you wanna learn more about the history Sabaton has a history channel where they make a video for each song explaining the history behind it. Since this is a Swedish song I’ll link the history video for this song which is in Swedish. Since you are a Dane I assume you understand or if not you can put on subtitles or watch the English version of the song called a Lifetime of war and the history video for that version.

Ive never been in the military but I got HUGE respect for all men who have died and protected thier country, and give the life of them to stand for that point.
So this song actually make me terryfied as a man because today men are getting so much HATE and females have NO IDEA how much men have given to make this life so good for the femenists....
we really need to stop the hate and start see EVERYONE as humans and make EVERYONE have the same idea of sacrifies and workload people have.
Sabaton is brining out the good in every song. to show the world stuff that "normal" milleniums never understood.

@Tan Jenner This is a joke comment.
Should my grandfather demand reparations for what happened to those in his family who remained in Germany? On the other hand my other grandfather fought as a swedish volunteer in The Continuation War a.k.a. the finnish part of Operation Barbarossa.
History is complicated so it's better to forgive and forget, and instead focus on solutions to current problems.

It is so nice to see such a respectful reaction to what is a powerful and emotional song. Full respect to Sabaton who write songs that make you think and respect whatever subject they sing about. I agree with Максим Прокопьев that you need to watch No Bullets Fly (Animated Version) and is taken from the Album Heroes, also please react to the songs Soldier Of Heaven (Official Video) and The Unkillable Soldier (Official Video) these last 2 songs were taken from the Album The War to End All Wars along with Christmas Truce all songs relate to events from World War 1. Sabaton have a fantastic channel called Sabaton History which takes each song and give an overview of what the song is about. En Livstid I Krig is from the Album Carolus Rex which is based on the rise and fall of the Swedish Empire,.
