same, and there is absolutely no reason to be ashame, it just shows that we are humans. And this Song really tells us how sickening War is, even its nessecary, so lets just take a second and appreciate those in the Service. We can also discuss if we should but that is not the Soldiers (Men/Womens) fault, there are others that make that choice for us.
As a descendant of a WW1 soldier who fought at the Somme and survived he also fought at Paschendale - another sad song (Price of a mile) about the waste of life.
For an added bit of historical context; The quotes regarding an entire generation of young men from towns and villages being wiped out is from the “Pals” battalions. A recruitment incentive introduced at the start of the way to encourage young men from a local area to all sign up together so they could be placed in the same unit and fight together, side by side with your friends. An extremely tragic unrealised consequence being that when one of these battalions went into action and suffered horrendous casualties, then an entire town and village would then have seen all of its young men die. A tragedy of war.
Covenant With Death (book) John Harris. Sheffield Pals regiment. I wouldn't even exist if it wasn't for the fact that my paternal grandfather was fortunate enough to have survived. I am a huge Motorhead fan too. ♠
There is a lot of Easter eggs in the song here are a few: the car with the driver but no passengers is to represent the assassination of Arch Duke Franz Ferdinand and his wife that kicked off WW1. The Airborne soldiers are from their song Screaming Eagles. The officer with the eye patch is another song called the Unkillable soldier. The biplanes flying next to the B-17 are the Night Witches. The B-17 is from the song No Bullets Fly. (Correction on that, it’s a Lancaster, appreciate the comments on the correction) The Roman soldier on horseback is from the song Winged Hussar. Another WW1 soldier with a sergeant rank is Sgt York. From the song 82nd all the way. The woman coming from the alley is from Lady of the Dark. So much more is in the song! it’s amazing to show everything in there.
They added 2 years to their ages. 16 year olds lied about their age, saying they were 18. The British needed bodies, so they took their word. There were soldiers in WWI ,as young as 12 years old. The cello over the end credits was played by Tina Guo, she has worked with Sabaton several times. If you want to see her join the band on stage, check out the song "Swedish Pagans" live at Wacken 2019.
Just try to imagine every single working aged man you know suddenly vanishing from existence. Your dad, your brothers, friends, your crush, the guy who works at the local store, the random fellow who says hi everyday but you never learned his name, all just gone forever in a single day. Its a chilling thought, but it really happened.
My great uncle was 16 when he enlisted to fight in WW1 at the Somne and at Paschendale (price of a mile) and he died 8 days before the end of WW1. The song was mainly filmed in and around Black country in West Midlands my family's home town!
sorry for your loss, even if 100, little over now. but to be killed that close to the war's end, even to this day, is just to heartbreaking imo. the infamous Red Baron was the same; he nearly made it to the end too. he was shot down only around 6-7 months before the end of the war.
I did some researching and found that all the names of the soldiers, knights and Spartans in the end were real people. Many of the soldiers were Medal of Honor, Silver Star, Victoria Cross or Croix de Guerre recipients. The soldier pulling himself out of the mud, at first I thought he was a member of "The Smoking Snakes" (Força Expedicionária Brasileira, FEB, nicknamed Cobras Fumantes), but doing some more research with the patch on his shoulder as well as his helmet, that's Sgt Henry Johnson of the 15th New York National Guard Regiment, aka "The Harlem Hellfighters". Medal of Honor recipient and recipient of French Croix de Guerre avec Palme, France's highest award for valor. The Medal of Honor was awarded to him in 2015. Sgt. Henry Johnson is "one of the five bravest American soldiers in the war." Theodore Roosevelt Jr. in his book "Rank and File: True Stories of the Great War" The Asian soldier with the cocked-hat, that's a Nepalese Gurka named Havildar Gurung (per the credits) who earn the Victoria Cross in the Burma campaign off WWII. Sgt Awal Nur, who did a secret mission over the Himalaya. Lt. Audie Murphy, Sgt. Alvin York are both medal of honor recipients from WWI (York) and WWII (Murphy). I also notice a soldier with the Croix Lorraine on what looks like a French flag arm band, meaning he was a member of the 'Forces françaises libres' forces in WWII. Doing some reading I found out that a large number of French colonial troops from territories such as Chad had joined with the 'Forces françaises libres'. I suspect that soldier is Lt Comba, but I can't find anything on him. As I've been working my way through the names listed in the credits and found another one: Private George Stringer, Manchester, Awarded the Victoria Cross at the Battle of Es Sinn in Mesopotamia. Capt. Dobson, 1st Canadian Infantry Battalion, Killed on 9 July 1916 in Flanders.
As people have stated, this is a cover of a Motörhead song. The two guys standing in the door opening at 4:30 are Mikkey Dee and Phil Campbell, the drummer and the guitarist of Motörhead.
Thanks for a nice reaction to this nice song. The reality is once again uncertain and I hope musicians in the future remember us and tell our story as Europe once again fights for its freedom against the enemy...this time from the East. Greetings from Sweden
Besides the verse that gets everyone (...and I fell by his side & that's how we died, clinging like kids to each other...) the end where the different Soldiers are getting out in front of the crowd, going forward & walking off together & then vanishing REALLY got me.
Tina did the Cello work for the DCEU Wonder Woman Theme. Tina is also featured on Sabaton's Steel Commander song. Another awesome Sabaton video 🖤🦇💣💀⚡️🤘
Fun fact Most of the troops in the British army at the time during ww1 were under the age of fifteen years old and the youngest number I can recall was fourteen who died during the battle of Jutland when his warship was sinking and that he remained at his post helping the wounded as well as his duty to the very end and died with those who were unable to escape, although the real terrifying part of a sinking ship isn’t the slow death due to hypothermia, but for the poor souls who were still trapped inside of their metal coffin as the ship they once called home, slowly sinks below the icy cold depths of the Atlantic Ocean, all the while small pockets of air still remain as sailors who were trapped inside their rooms slowly suffocated to death, in the cold dark abyss with nothing but their thoughts and fears to accompany them into the afterlife. Sorry for the depressing comment but unfortunately not everyone were lucky enough to escape and survive a sinking ship and unfortunately not many would be as lucky to be killed instantly than to slowly face death.
I love their rendition of the song 1916 because that made so many of us go back & listen to the original version from Motörhead to see the impact that Lemmy wanted to make when he originally wrote the lyric despite the fact that song didn't get same recognition amongst Motörheads other songs before so the cover gave life into that song by letting people know about the original..Please react to " The Last Stand" from Sabaton it was the first song that I ever heard from them & that particular song made a true impression on me that I became a instant Fan before even hearing the rest of their songs..I never forget that moment
Great reaction from you guys! 1916 of Sabaton is one of their best songs out there also the song is originally from Motorhead. Also there are lots of songs of Sabaton that good out there like The Attack of the Dead Men, Soldiers of Heaven, The Unkilleable Soldier and so on. Also I have sad news that Tommy Johansson will leave Sabaton til the band finds a new guitarist. Sabaton: ”After 7 amazing years in the band, our guitarist, Tommy, has decided to leave Sabaton to pursue his own path. We wish him nothing but the best on his journey. We have been a close family and we will continue to support him in the adventures that await him in the future.” Tommy Johansson: ”After doing this for seven years, I feel it’s time to start following my heart. This means I will no longer tour with my brothers in Sabaton and will not meet all you lovely Sabaton supporters on the upcoming tours with the band. I will never quit playing music. I’ll still be touring with Majestica and other projects, but not on the same level as Sabaton of course. I am sure I will meet you lovely fans on the road again in the future.” I will support both Sabaton and Tommy as the fan I am because Tommy is a great artist in his own right. Have a great day all of you!
This song was written by Lemmy (rip) in Motörhead after he saw a documentary from the WW1 on TV. Lemmy was kind of a doublenature, vocalist and frontfigure of Motörhead, the definition of a badboy, and at the same very well-read and polite. Great reaction of a great song with strong lyrics. Most swedes use rolling Rrr when they speak english. Even though english arent our mothers tongue most swedes are good in english, but speak it are something different. 😊🇸🇪
Yeah and the words used are from his autobiog: White Line Fever. Have read it. Last saw Motorhead at Sheffield Academy, 11 years ago. Covenant With Death - John Harris is a good read. Tad biased. My paternal grandfather survived The Somme. Not a Sheffield regt. A Lancashire regiment. Born to lose, live to win.
Pleas indulge me. Just a couple names that could not be mentioned and I want people to read PLEASE and keep them alive. The youngest boy there that day at the battle of the Somme was 12. His name was Sidney Lewis. He had Lied about his age and then told his mother he was going to a workhouse to earn more money for them, Fortunately, he survived the battles. His mother found out from another boy that was wounded and sent home, that Sidney was not at a Workhouse, and she petitioned the government, and he was sent home. Unfortunately, 13 YO Horace Iles who also lied about his age died in the first three hours of the battle. So he did not make it home. When World leaders are ok with killing children, they don't deserve your support respect or fealty. The only incents lost in war are those who had No chance to live first.
Ladies, I loved your review you Ladies are Also Amazing, Now just to clear a things up for for you, I am a Nightwish, and Floor Jansen fan of 26 years, and been to many of their shows all over Europe. Floor Joined her first Metal band who Dutch, aged i6 years old, They Were called (After Forever,) for 12 years before they Dibanded. Floor then started up her own Metal band who were called (Revamp) for just over 7 years, then Floor was asked to Join Nightwish in 2013. Now FACT, Floor Jansen is 6ft and bit tall in her stacking feet, When she has her stage, high heel boots on, she is F 6ft 5 inches tall. Now her Husband is Named (Hannes Van Dahl), he is the drummer in Sabaton, he is the one with the long Blond Hair, and he is 6ft 6 inches tall, in his stocking feet. He is Swedish, and they All Live, including their 2 children, live in a very remote part, of Sweden, way out in the Forrest area, for the peace and quite, and privacy, on a Ranch that is called (Van Dahl Ranch) Love your reactions Ladies, keep them coming
the part where they get to the verse where they're talking about the two friends dying together and calling for their mother, this actually happened to a veteran that was interviewed. he survived, but his friend didn't. the vet said he remembers his friend calling out to her until he slowly but surely got weaker and colder until he died; calling for his mother the entire time. needless to say, the vet didn't like recalling that memory. also, this wasn't the only battle of the somme. they actually needed another attempt to take the position they were fighting for...and their were nearly just as many deaths.
Lemmy Kilmister (bass & vocals) of Motorhead wrote '1916' for the album (of the same name) in 1991... it was a tribute to the casualties of World War I. (The late) Lemmy was an avid reader and would spend off-hours on tour reading history books... Many recall Lemmy as someone who drank, did drugs and gambled his life away, but he was a deep individual who was a rock n roll fan and a dedicated musician & songwriter... He also collected historical artifacts of war like knives, medals and artifacts from World War II years (People accused him of being a nazi, but he hated that ideology... He collected those artifacts for historical value) I highly recommend u watch the 'Lemmy' documentary movie that was made during his lifetime. '1916' was a perfect song for Sabaton to cover... 🤘🤘Motorhead members Phil Campbell (guitar) and Mikkey Dee (drums) appeared in this music video (if u recognize them 😁) Sabaton also did a remarkable cover of the song 'Kingdom Come' by Manowar. Motorhead were a heavy rock band that was credited w/ inspiring the hyperfast thrash metal scene of the 80's... but they did not get the success they deserved for decades... They were doing the double-bass drumming and shredding guitars since 1979. The classic Motorhead line-up from 1977 to 1982 (Lemmy Kilmister on vocals & bass, Phil 'Philthy Animal' Taylor on drums and 'Fast' Eddie Clarke on guitar) created some memorable records like 'Overkill'... 'Bomber' ... 'Ace of spades' ... 'Iron Fist'... 🤘🤘Metallica were huge fans of Motorhead... so were Guns N' Roses, Motley Crue, and Nirvana. Lemmy kept Motorhead going w/ new members after both Philthy and 'Fast' Eddie were out of the band... Phil Campbell and (the late) Mick 'Wurzel' Burston (guitars) joined in 1985... Philthy (drums) returned in 1987, but was fired in 1991... Mikkey Dee (drums) joined in 1992. Motorhead became a trio again in 1995 after guitarist Wurzel quit... They actually became extremely popular again by 2005 and toured until 2015... Lemmy Kilmister turned 70 in 2015 and passed away after being diagnosed w/ brain cancer late that year. Motorhead ended their 40 year career. Besides the original '1916' by Motorhead... I recommend u check out more songs by the band - 'Ace of spades' ... 'Bomber' ... 'Overkill' ... 'Orgasmatron'... 'Love me forever' ... 'Hellraiser' ... 'March or die'... 🤘🤘🔥🔥
Lemmy: The Movie. Astonishing knowledge of conflict. The time he stated that: "this is a Hetzer tank. Built by Skoda. A tank killer. They'd bury it so that just the turret and barrel was showing..." "I collect this stuff because it's cool and has a history" Midwits on soc med accuse me of being a ......? But, I'm so bad, baby I don't care. ♠
I like how Sabaton put their own spin on this song and made it about soldiers from all of history, not just WW1 like the original. Most of the footage is still of WW1, but sprinkled in with other wars, both ancient and more contemporary. Sabaton is a Swedish band, so ofc they had to include our own history in this, with some Swedish Carolean soldiers sprinkled in (the drummer at the beginning for example). On that topic, you should check out songs from the "Carolus Rex" album :)
Thanks ski! This hits hard. My mother's grandfather was _14_ when he signed up! He survived through blind luck: he was wounded, and while being treated at a field hospital his own father (who was also wounded) saw him and blew his top. Then he wrote to his wife, who wrote to the War Office with evidence of his age, and they pulled him out. He never spoke of his experiences. Let's raise a glass to Lemmy, to Birmingham (birthplace of metal), and to lost sons.
Sabaton did an amazing job with this Motörhead cover both making a tribute to the original, to all soldiers in war and still making it their own 😀 Both Hannes ( Floors husband) and Tommy are REALLY tall. I had to go on the internet to see what their actual length is and from what I can find Hannes are 6,3 and Tommy is 6,5 ( keep in mind it is from sites stating facts of artists not from an “official” source .. but that is the heights I’ve seen mentioned in comments too) so Tommy is a little taller but they are both just shy of 2 meters tall. I find it a An interesting contrast that Tommy has that majestic presence, positive personality and beautiful high pitched voice all at the same time
Tommy said he was 6'4" in his q and a video, i think.....of course he said it in centimeters.....someone please correct me if it wasn't in his q and a interview he did.
Lemmy wrote a masterpiece with this. Maybe check out the original Motörhead version as well? It hits even more in my opinion. Greets from Germany! RIP Lemmy legend!
great reaction as usual. the line "clinging like kids to each other" is insanenely powerful, Sixteen IS a kid, twenty is barely starting to be adult in most cases.
One of my favorite Easter eggs in this song is that one of the last lines goes "and now there's nobody remembers our names, and that's what it means to be a soldier" and then every soldier that appeared IS named, IS a specific soldier from history and often with their own Sabaton song telling their story as well
As a historian the line is sadly true. When the story is told only the commanders and heroes are remembered otherwise most soldiers names are lost to time.
There is a beautiful ecru coloured convertible that pops up occasionally in the video... this is the very pale horse that conquest rode in on with war and famine and death in it's train. This is the car that Archduke Franz Ferdinand of Austria and his (morganatic) wife Sophie Duchess Hohenberg bled to death in on June 28th in Sarajevo. The spark that directly touched off the Apocalypse of the Old World. The "One foolish things in the Balkans" that would touch off the next Great European War as Bismarck predicted 20+ years before the events. It's both disturbing to think about in our very "early 20the century-esque" world and awesome to see these little details, left without explicit explanation, as proof to the level of historical knowledge that Sabaton has risen by now. Best regards Raoul G. Kunz
Sabaton did a great cover of it, and have the Motorhead members with them as well as the flag. Lemmy was also from that area, hence another reason he wrote the song. A good tribute to "The Lost Generation"
The video features reenactments actors ranging from the Roman Army to WW2. The female solider in a Soviet Union uniform is a throwback to The Night Witches a video about the 588th all female bomber squad who wreaked havoc on the Nazi Army a great video and song by Sabaton.
This was a great reaction, I was waiting for it. I can't listen to this song without getting tears in my grown man eyes. Btw, You seem to like Tommy, unfortunately he just announced that he will be leaving Sabaton :( He still has his other band and his solo projects, so I guess he didn't have time for them all.
Thank you lovely Patreon for this request and thank you lovely ladies this song always bring tears when i think how many young people where sucked into believing joining the army doesn't just make you a man and honourable for serving your country but will make you famous. In the end know one knew there names and you had to charge at your enemy or you'll be imprisoned or worse shot by your commanding officer. Just food for the gun.
I think that Hannes is taller than Tommy. From what I've heard, but I could be wrong. I'm still in the process of accepting the fact that Tommy is leaving Sabaton...😢 He will be with them on their US tour in a couple of months. April-May I think.. How about the live version of "Night Witches"? (live from the Great Tour, Leipzig, Germany, 2020). Great reaction, btw! 🤘
A moving and fitting tribute to both Lemmy Kilmister of Motorhead and all the soldiers throughout history who marched off to fight, and sometimes die, for their homelands. RIP, you are all missed and remembered.
Again ladies, thank you so much for reacting to this very moving song. As others have said, this is a cover for Motorhead's 1916, written by Lemmy Killmister. Lemmy wrote this song after watching a documentary about the battle of the Somme. Sabaton paid tribute to Motorhead by having the surviving members of the band in this video. Also, a shout-out to the great Tina Guo who arranged and played the cello out-take at the end. she was the one who played with Sabaton in Steel Commanders.
This is a really beautiful tribute to Lemmy from Motörhead that wrote this song originally. You can see the two surviving members from Motörhead in the video and they also march along with the photo of Lemmy who passed away a couple of years ago. The video is also filled with references to a lot of Sabaton songs. You can see soldiers from all time and from all the world, because the life for a soldier is universe and timeless. The song is about the battle of The Somme. The most horrific battle ever, as you could see in the description in the end of the video. The cello part is arranged by the fantastic Tin Guo that Sabaton worked quite a lot with. You can see her performing with Sabaton in the live video for Swedish Pagans at the Woodstock festival. That's my suggestion for another song from Sabaton.
I just have to say I am enjoying your reactions. 3 generations of women! Especially your Sabaton reactions, I can tell Ms. Donna is possibly the closest generation to metal and rock music followed by Kathy who is possibly near my generation. To see Lulu enjoy metal and history just warms my heart. I have nieces and nephews her age and it is so difficult to get them into metal, rock and much less history! I am a trained anthropologist and historian and an avid fan of metal and rock music, I am 44 I am an "exennial" too young for GenX too old for Millennials and definitely out of touch with GenZ! I definitely love seeing this multigenerational reaction so much. I will continue to watch the rest even the ones not related to Sabaton
I can recommend Sabaton's live performance "Swedish pagans - Live at Wacken open air 2019" with Tina Guo on cello who played at the end in the credits.
There is a sort of hidden message in a short piece ofthe song. The woman in uniform stepping out of the shaded alley.. she's a representative of all of the women in uniform from the world wars, because we tend to forget the women that faught in the wars. But Sabaton never forgets and keep reminding us of those girls in the trenches and front lines.
my grandfather was a boy soldier in ww1 my uncie in ww2 my father in korea my uncle in aden and me in the mid 70sand when i seem to shed a tear when i listen to this
That pretty blonde lady you asked about, she was a Night Witch, a Russian group of female pilots who did all their work at night and got little to no recognition from the other units nor the Russian govt
Sabaton "En livstid i krig, A lifetime of war" live version. Song in Swedish so use the subtitles. Is about the 30 year old war that Sweden was a part of. Another great song "Devil dogs" is about US Marines in first WW.
Another great reaction ladies. Donna, you were spot on saying that they they don't teach this in America because it happened overseas. Lulu is learning so much about the outside world and history. You would so enjoy a visit to Europe, assuming you haven't yet been.
I have to say this is an amazing video for many reasons. Besides the poignant story, it also serves as a tribute to the song's writer, Lemmy, of Motorhead. As for your teacher Mr. Betts, perhaps you could suggest he give Sabaton a listen, and incorporate their videos into his lesson plans. Sabaton has a history channel which goes into greater depth on the stories behind the videos, and is presented by real historians.
What's always interesting to me is how the number of casualties from World War 1 battles like the Somme with its slightly are seen as horrific, as they were, yet then you have actions like the Battle of Stalingrad, where between 1.9 and 4.1 million Germans and Soviets died in a battle lasting only a month longer than the Battle of the Somme yet with between two to four times the number of casualties, that many people don't seem to be able to compare. To me, it showcases something special with World War 1 that World War 2 just generally didn't have. Futility. The Somme was an inconclusive battle. All the British and French had managed to do for the loss of 420,000 Brits and 200,000 Frenchmen was gain 6 miles of territory across a 16 mile front. Stalingrad was a decisive defeat for the Germans and decisive victory for the Soviets, undoing all the gains the Germans had made in 1942 and effectively killing any chance they had at capturing Russia's oil fields in the Caucuses. Yes, 2-4 times as many men died in Stalingrad but they died FOR something (the Soviets stopping the German advance and if the Germans had won, a massive propaganda victory and a chance at Soviet oil). The men at the Somme died for some soggy ground that had little real importance by itself. Just something interesting.
We lost a generation of men for a war started by Serbia against Austria-Hungary. Millions of englishmen dead, the youngest of all, at the Somme, 12 years old.
What makes it better one of tge film locations is where i work and we have to wear time period clothing so its normal for us to bressed up in 1910s 20s 30s 40s 50s and 60s style clothing daily
The Battle of the Somme is one of those historical parts of British history that is taught about at schools here in the UK, and also part of our nation's history that is still remembered today. Over 57,000 British heroes died on the first day who are remembered throughout the United Kingdom. The Battle of the Somme on the first day was the biggest disaster in British Military History and we have had some but not as bad as the first day of the Battle of the Somme. I strongly recommend songs live, "En livstid i krig" live i Gothenburg Sweden and use translation to understand the strong Swedish lyrics and "Uprising" live i woodstock Warzawa Poland
Agree although the video clip of "Uprising" is so much more enlightening for people who never heard about the Warsaw Uprising. So a tricky one. Maybe I would even recommend the videoclip (for a first ever listen) so you'll get the story (and you will understand the live version and the enthusiasm of the Polish crowd that much better)
Great again ! ❤ So, you could also do: En Livstid I Krig (live from Gothenburg) - but please with subtitles (it’s sung in Swedish)…. A wonderful live performance - a must see ‼️🏆👍
Loved your reaction to an amazing cover of an equally good Song. As other already said there are amazing callbacks/Easter eggs in this one. If you need any suggestions for future reactions I'd like to enter ''The Last Battle'' as an Idea, it is my all time favorite of theirs. Greetings from Germany! After I retired from the Army, I was briefly a high school history teacher, before becoming a space museum curator. When I taught, I did use Sabaton songs to illustrate my lessons.
The man holding the photo of Lemmy was Motorheads travel manager. He now has the same job for Sabaton.
Yeah, his name is Eddie Rocha.
Does look a lot like paul , lemmys son think many made that mistake
I cannot hear this song (either Sabaton’s cover or the original by Motörhead) and not get emotional. Not ashamed to admit that either.

The instrumental at the end even moreso as well. Although i want a full instrumental version
Such a cute reaction, Ladys!😊 Thank you! Soldier of heaven would be another great song to react to. Greetings from Germany!
but you must agree sabaton did it a sligty better in motional voice all love to motörhead who did it first but my vote sabaton did it better.
For an added bit of historical context;
The quotes regarding an entire generation of young men from towns and villages being wiped out is from the “Pals” battalions. A recruitment incentive introduced at the start of the way to encourage young men from a local area to all sign up together so they could be placed in the same unit and fight together, side by side with your friends. So much more is in the song! it’s amazing to show everything in there.
Let's not forget the Hellfighters. :)
and the Smoking Snakes
Much appreciated! Saludos desde Valencia ✌💚
The ANZAC's (cliffs of Galipoli) are featured with the Australian flag
From roman times till now , that's the life of a soldier, it's not just only about 1916.
“I hate war as only a soldier who has live it can, only as one who has seen it’s brutality, it’s stupidity.” -Dwight D. Eisenhower.
They added 2 years to their ages. 16 year olds lied about their age, saying they were 18. The British needed bodies, so they took their word. There were soldiers in WWI ,as young as 12 years old.

To put it in context, the British losses in just the Somme exceeded all Union losses for the duration of the Civil War.
this song just makes me think of my brother. an iraq veteran who did 2 tours. it never fails to make me cry.
2,738 men died on 12th November - the very last day of the war
@@anime4life209 thanks - his memory or name will never be forgotten.
Sgt. Henry Johnson is "one of the five bravest American soldiers in the war."

The Asian soldier with the cocked-hat, that's a Nepalese Gurka named Havildar Gurung (per the credits) who earn the Victoria Cross in the Burma campaign off WWII.
Hello from Texas. Thanks for watching.
The blonde haired one is Hannes, Floor’s husband, the drummer.
Besides the verse that gets everyone (...and I fell by his side & that's how we died, clinging like kids to each other...) the end where the different Soldiers are getting out in front of the crowd, going forward & walking off together & then vanishing REALLY got me.
The cello in the end is played and arranged by the amazing Tina "Wonder woman" Guo.
Tina did the Cello work for the DCEU Wonder Woman Theme. Tina is also featured on Sabaton's Steel Commander song. Another awesome Sabaton video 🖤🦇💣💀⚡️🤘
Tina Guo making her cello cry...
i dont know if anyone have said this before, but the main singer of sabaton were a history teacher before joining sabaton
Fun fact
Most of the troops in the British army at the time during ww1 were under the age of fifteen years old and the youngest number I can recall was fourteen who died during the battle of Jutland when his warship was sinking and that he remained at his post helping the wounded as well as his duty to the very end and died with those who were unable to escape, although the real terrifying part of a sinking ship isn’t the slow death due to hypothermia, but for the poor souls who were still trapped inside of their metal coffin as the ship they once called home, slowly sinks below the icy cold depths of the Atlantic Ocean, all the while small pockets of air still remain as sailors who were trapped inside their rooms slowly suffocated to death, in the cold dark abyss with nothing but their thoughts and fears to accompany them into the afterlife.
Sabaton:
”After 7 amazing years in the band, our guitarist, Tommy, has decided to leave Sabaton to pursue his own path. We wish him nothing but the best on his journey. We have been a close family and we will continue to support him in the adventures that await him in the future.”
Tommy Johansson:
”After doing this for seven years, I feel it’s time to start following my heart. This means I will no longer tour with my brothers in Sabaton and will not meet all you lovely Sabaton supporters on the upcoming tours with the band. I will never quit playing music. I’ll still be touring with Majestica and other projects, but not on the same level as Sabaton of course. I am sure I will meet you lovely fans on the road again in the future.”
I will support both Sabaton and Tommy as the fan I am because Tommy is a great artist in his own right. Have a great day all of you!
One more song to add to the list: Christmas Truce
@@stefangummesson8367 Yes that song is also emotional like 1916. But very good song.

I’m tearing up 😢😢

the part where they get to the verse where they're talking about the two friends dying together and calling for their mother, this actually happened to a veteran that was interviewed. he survived, but his friend didn't. the vet said he remembers his friend calling out to her until he slowly but surely got weaker and colder until he died; calling for his mother the entire time. needless to say, the vet didn't like recalling that memory. also, this wasn't the only battle of the somme. they actually needed another attempt to take the position they were fighting for...and their were nearly just as many deaths.
He collected those artifacts for historical value)
I highly recommend u watch the 'Lemmy' documentary movie that was made during his lifetime.
'1916' was a perfect song for Sabaton to cover... 🤘🤘Motorhead members Phil Campbell (guitar) and Mikkey Dee (drums) appeared in this music video (if u recognize them 😁)
Sabaton also did a remarkable cover of the song 'Kingdom Come' by Manowar.
They'd bury it so that just the turret and barrel was showing..."
"I collect this stuff because it's cool and has a history"
Midwits on soc med accuse me of being a ......? But, I'm so bad, baby I don't care.

The Sabaton music video of Royal Guard. Is probably the best video that shows the band with other individuals. Great song as well.
I do not mourn the loss of those Men, but I thank God Men like them existed!
This one absolutely gets me choked up, production value is so spot on!
Sabaton did an amazing job with this Motörhead cover both making a tribute to the original, to all soldiers in war and still making it their own 😀
Both Hannes ( Floors husband) and Tommy are REALLY tall.
Much as I love the Sabaton version, especially the quality of the video, I must say that Lemmy's wonderful honest and gruff vocals are deeply moving
These people are called the "Lost Generation" for obvious reasons.
great reaction as usual.
the line "clinging like kids to each other" is insanenely powerful, Sixteen IS a kid, twenty is barely starting to be adult in most cases.
We're going to miss you Tommy. Good luck with your solo career.
the behind the scene video is amazing-the cello player is none other than Tina Guo also known for her awesome playing
12:21 Cello performance, arrangement and mixing by
TINA GUO
they are such a great band awesome music and a good history lesson. 40 to 1 live at Woodstock festival in Poland is absolute amazing.
Best regards
Raoul G. Kunz
Sabaton did a great cover of it, and have the Motorhead members with them as well as the flag. Lemmy was also from that area, hence another reason he wrote the song. A good tribute to "The Lost Generation"
Like many, I can't get through this without crying. It just hits me.
Btw, You seem to like Tommy, unfortunately he just announced that he will be leaving Sabaton :(
He still has his other band and his solo projects, so I guess he didn't have time for them all.
really???? why?
@@Brainreaver79 he wants to focus on his own band majestica and youtube channel
@@liys540 ah ok, thx for the quick repsonse
but you can see him if majestica would come to us for a christmas carol tour or another album
@@liys540 Yes, I hope so. We can probably (hopefully) expect more from Majestica!🤘
A moving and fitting tribute to both Lemmy Kilmister of Motorhead and all the soldiers throughout history who marched off to fight, and sometimes die, for their homelands. RIP, you are all missed and remembered.
This is who we are, at least those of us left that remember.
Thank you
I can recommend Sabaton's live performance "Swedish pagans - Live at Wacken open air 2019" with Tina Guo on cello who played at the end in the credits.
the iconic london bus.
At the end of the song, the living stop, and ghosts go on to history.

This is an amazing video for this song by sabaton and your reaction to this was good as well
Another great reaction ladies. Donna, you were spot on saying that they they don't teach this in America because it happened overseas. Lulu is learning so much about the outside world and history. You would so enjoy a visit to Europe, assuming you haven't yet been.

you are right, the large, blond guy is Hannes - husband of Floor.
Some of the places the filmed at are open air museums.
There is an excellent video on the Sabaton TH-cam channel that documents the three-day location shoot of the making of this song.
>>> Shout out Donna ! you started all .
When you watch future Sabaton ones, dont forget to put on the lyrics. It helps.
I love this line of thinking. Your damn right.
We lost a generation of men for a war started by Serbia against Austria-Hungary.
Millions of englishmen dead, the youngest of all, at the Somme, 12 years old.
you really need to react to the motorhead version, Lemmy put so much emotion into it
What makes it better one of tge film locations is where i work and we have to wear time period clothing so its normal for us to bressed up in 1910s 20s 30s 40s 50s and 60s style clothing daily
I for one, am thrilled :)
Please watch the videos to the end.
Thank you ❤️
