Beautiful work, all those fine details on the edges of the fractures are beyond amazing. You could almost convince me that some of these scenes were just filmed instead of being simulated.
Papers like this are why I became an Engineer...unfortunately I don't have time to write my own...I must live vicariously through the work of these focused youth! Ad Astra!
Interesting results and very nice visualization. Does the traditional MPM use linear interpolation functions in the simulations? Are there some specific fracture criteria, or is it inherent to the constitutive model?
No. Rabbit, armadillos, dragon etc are famous free scanned meshes ( graphics.stanford.edu/data/3Dscanrep/ ), available for all science purposes. That is why they used so often. May be, they become memetic for years.
Who technically owns this footage? I’m considering using some of these clips in a music video, and want permission to do so. Can I do that if the footage is owned by a university?
how long did these take to render and what hardware was used? Nevermind, in the video! the scary part is, that if we're this close to simulating the physics of our reality with such accuracy that it is almost indistinguishable from our reality, then who's to say that our very own reality is actually being simulated in real time by some super mega cosmic quantum computer?
"With three realistic armadillos..." LOL
wobbly armadillos
Beautiful work, all those fine details on the edges of the fractures are beyond amazing. You could almost convince me that some of these scenes were just filmed instead of being simulated.
I'm showing this to my class
They all liked it. Good example of where elastics simulation is at in 2019.
This is so exciting! The T-rex was impressive, but that bread-tear had me clapping!
From your paper to Houdini nodes, with wings please.
The choice of objects to showcase is just priceless. Well done on the simulation model!
Why is there that little views, upvotes and subscribers to this? I actually had to double check to make sure this is real. Mind blowing
Breaking bread with Science! Great video
Papers like this are why I became an Engineer...unfortunately I don't have time to write my own...I must live vicariously through the work of these focused youth! Ad Astra!
WOW this is super impressive! I would love to see this kind of physics in future games :D
you guys are amazing, I wish there was some way to celebrate all of you guys because these simulation videos are just so cool
Will you ever release the code?
Both CD-MPM and Silly Rubber are now open-sourced and ready for use! Find it here: github.com/squarefk/ziran2019
Wow! Amazing work. This is the future!
truly impressive work
Interesting results and very nice visualization. Does the traditional MPM use linear interpolation functions in the simulations? Are there some specific fracture criteria, or is it inherent to the constitutive model?
amazing! which program did you use?
They... are showcasing their program?
This is mind-blowing work. Bravo!
Is this available to the public? Can this be done in blender??
:58 what exactly is a background scratchpad grid? :x
"....and here we torture an armadillo!"
so all this visualization is done with Blender?
The bread looks like a sponge
Douwe E. ...Bread kind of is a sponge.
That’s what bread is: a starchy gluten sponge.
I'd like to see this simulate an airplane crash. Most CGI crashes don't accurately show the twisting/stretching of the aluminum skin.
There are some and they figured out that carbon could save a lot of lifes but its too expansive
@@GrinderFX expansive or expensive?
@@spordel yes expensive. They dont care about life, its more important to safe some bucks.
I lost a few brain cells reading these comments
Outstanding work!
Just wow. Simulation times are still somewhat high (relatively speaking ;) ), but the results... wow!
Voice of HomeWorld :p
That watermelon looked too much like jello
I'm more and more convinced that we are, in fact, in a simulation... That bread actually made me hungry.
Is this thing with armadillos a meme or something? We see it in every SIGGRAPH
No. Rabbit, armadillos, dragon etc are famous free scanned meshes ( graphics.stanford.edu/data/3Dscanrep/ ), available for all science purposes. That is why they used so often. May be, they become memetic for years.
a meme in the computer graphics community

The real question is how did you make that gun fire an entire cartridge and not just the bullet?

that would be epic as a VR Demo
@@mongolman3492 When the Time is up, the Hardware would be good enough for this.
That bread at the start looks so appetizing lol
“Sandwich cookie”
*INTERNAL RAGE*
Maybe because of copyright they can’t say Oreo
@@Prism00n But it says. literally says Oreo on the "Sandwich cookie". Guess that's what they are called now.
Hi, this is amazing work!
One question though: Why do you hate armadillos so much? :D
lol i was going to ask the same question
When will this stuff be available?
Wow - this is amazing :)
THIS IS INSANE!

While this is cool in concept... I can't get excited about this stuff until they can do this in real-time.
I hope ed boon will implement this technology in future mortal kombat titles
I want this in Blender right now.
Most impressive
I always wanted to see a rabbit crack open!

Bring it to Blender baby!!

Does anyone know which software they have used to render those simulations? Would anyone also recommend blender to achieve a similar result?
Wow, this is so cool!

can this simulation be introduce into Blender 3D software?
