    Daniel is a braking master. His braking skill is impressive, he never locks up while braking much later and harder than others.

      Max did double moves, shut the door and brake hard. So when you're directly behind another car, the front wing lose significant down force so less grip under braking. It's Max fault.

    • @azab515
      @azab515 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Andi S i agree with you but why were the commentators saying it was ricciardos fault?
      It did kind of look like he didnt have a real window to overtake but then i can see max cut him off both sides

    This is Spot on.
    In my Opinion Ricciardo is currently the best Overtaker on the Grid. Not just because of his Braking abilities, but mostly because he's a Master in forcing People off the Line, as you explained in this Video.
    He's opportunistic too and misjudges very rarely, whilst still being agressive.
    Yes, i'm aware of the Fact that i sound like a Fangirl. But seriously....how can you not like Ricciardo

      The thing I like about him the most is how clean of a racing driver he is despite how aggressive his moves are. You will rarely see him make a mistake, lock a wheel, run wide, make contact with an opponent etc etc.
      Please Red Bull or another top team, give this guy a championship winning car!

    • @TangoNevada

      You have to be superior at overtaking when driving an inferior car. Sure he had better tires at that point, but so did other drivers.

    Another factor is psychological. It can be very mentally taxing on the driver ahead to have a faster car behind trying to get by. Not only having to focus on the correct racing line as normal but also keeping track of the rival car's location. A driver behind can try and provoke mistakes via feints and being a general nuisance in the mirrors of the car ahead.

    Ricciardo's has the best racecraft of any of the drivers. His skill goes well beyond overtaking & braking.
    His wheel to wheel racecraft is incredible, a great example to check out is his 2017 race in Monza where he went 3 wide (middle) thru Turns 1 & 2 while avoiding any contact (race start or lap 1?).
    That same race is also a good example of his overtaking as well.

    1. What do u mean by the tilt era in f1

    3. How do u know so much? Research? Or did u work in f1 before?

    • @chainbear
      @chainbear  6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Hi!
      1. Tilke era just means the period after Herman Tilke became the primary track architect for all new F1 tracks. I might do a video on it one day but his main characteristics are long straights followed by sharp turns and single-radius corners. Recently he's added very long fast corners to his repertoire after Turn 8 at Istanbul proved popular.
      2. I can, but not in this comment :)
      3. Education and research and a looooong time of building information

    You see, if I wanted to watch a single file line parade progress, then I’d be sitting around at an airport’s baggage area, not watching F1 “racing” in Russia and Monaco. Overtaking it’s what makes a running race an actual race, not a parade.

    Love your videos. Never been to F1 but even local racers sometimes don’t understand the principles of overtaking/passing. They inherently allow competition too much room to prevail. No quarter asked, none given. Thank you.

    Meanwhile in moto3, there are 7 riders side by side, in the straight. The leading group consists of 14riders,seperated within 1 second of time and 30 yards of distance, getting hundreds of overtakes. The trailing group is slightly behind at 3 seconds with 19 riders almost side by side again with quintillions of overtakes

      i think its more the media why he gets this shit becouse they praised him like the new senna 2.0 but in fact he is still way to inexperienced to be matched withg that and so we also get to think kinda like thgat and dont expect him to make any mistakes of course he does and as soon as he does he gets this hate. but prob as soon as he does something cool again everyone forgets it and its just how it was like every fckin time....

    I agree that Ricciardo is a good overtaker. But several of his moves are dive bombs.

    • @stephencooper5155
      @stephencooper5155 6 ปีที่แล้ว +13

      Agreed. I like both drivers but let's be honest the only difference in the Verstappen/Vettel and Ric/Bottas overtake attempts was Bottas got out of the way

    • @Midori_Ringo
      @Midori_Ringo 6 ปีที่แล้ว +39

      I think you need to look again. Yeah it's a dive bomb but it's under control. Bottas moves right to squeeze Daniel which he is allowed to do, but he has to allow space. Look at the position of Daniel's car prior to the apex and turn in. He is side by side front wheel to front wheel prior to the turning into the corner. As stated in the video "the dominant position". The Verstappen move on Vettel look at where Verstappen is as Vettel turns in and is trying to hit the apex and the point of impact 1/2 way around the chicane. Verstappen barely got his front wheels alongside Vettel's rear wheels. He failed to set up the move on the inside earlier and was caught in no-man's land ie he failed to establish dominant position. Because Daniel setup the move early, Bottas was aware of where he is and doesn't turn into him. It's a bad decision on Verstappen's part as he has an easier pass anyway right after the end of the corner with having the traction advantage out of the corner. This relates back to the section of the video "study your rival" clearly Vettel was struggling for traction so it was an ill advised moved to try that there

    • @grahamserle7930
      @grahamserle7930 6 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Correct. And great drivers have that instinct and awareness. Danny Ric has done this many times and rarely comes to grief. That's the difference between a good and a great driver.

    • @Midori_Ringo
      @Midori_Ringo 6 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      Oh and if you're saying Vettel should of moved, why should he? He has the dominant position into that corner and they are fighting for position. Even if he could Max doesn't even make a move until Vettel has turned in so it's impossible for Vettel to let him through even if he wanted to. Once vettel turned in the overtaking opportunity at that corner is effectively over.

    • @pixlpionier
      @pixlpionier 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Well, the reason that Ricciardo’s move on Bottas succeeded was because Bottas eventually didn’t turn into the corner when he could, knowing that they would collide if he would. That overtake could have easily retired both drivers.

  • @muntee33

    This video should be done in respect to MotoGP. Variable steering geometry, variable tyre profile, variable pitch force relative to lean angle, independent front and rear brake systems and use of them to aid turn radius and grip potential, use of body weight to alter COG, etc etc
    Real racers ride bikes 😛.
    Its that much harder that the use of pit coms is prohibited so rider can focus entirely on riding -only pit board and limited ‘codes’ on cluster for race strategy adjustments. Its much more in the hands of the rider. F1 car attendants must do as instructed over pit coms.
    Bikes have an effect for sure but on average, the fastest times are achieved by the fastest rider.

    • @Blaize110
      @Blaize110 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Also far less blocking ability due to the bikes being smaller. If you don't finish your overtake cleanly, you can bet the other rider will snap back at you straight away. It's those laps where riders trade places virtually every corner that make it so great to watch.

    6:48 This rule doesn't seem to apply to Verstappen. He always waits until the driver behind commits to one side (inside or outside) and then turns in the same direction under breaking to squeeze them of the track or make them lock up and ruin their tyres. And he never gets penalised for it.

    I really like your explanation of the situation regarding the different RB overtakes. We all agree that Max could have waited and most likely overtake Seb on the main straight, but he made a split second decision that ultimately cost him the race. I still like the move, despite it not panning out, over the simple fact that the opportunity arose and he went for it 100% (much like the safety car situation where RB didn't waste time and just pulled both cars in). I absolutely loved Daniel's move on Valtteri, simply because it was so controlled and it was a butt clencher to look at!
    Was Alonso's overtake on Vettel simply a matter of fresher tyres or Vettel giving up his race?

    • @6St6Jimmy6
      @6St6Jimmy6 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Vettel rev the tires a lot when he spun so they got overheated and teared badly and the tires weren't the most fresh ones at that point. There was also some damage. That's why Vettel struggled after the contact.
