You announce the actor who played the original hero of the MCU to play the villain of the MULTIVERSE Saga, obviously there would be a point to the casting. He never hid his face as Iron Man. We kept having shots inside his helmet. He outed his identity at the end of his first movie. His helmet became collapsible by Civil War. And he invented that nanotechnology that allowed other heroes to make their masks disappear instantly. The actor who showed his face more and more as the MCU went on and even died unmasked wouldn't be hiding behind a mask as Doom.
The fact RDJ is playing Doom is in the words of Deadpool: lazy writing. Just make him Superior Iron Man and keep pushing. Doom deserves to be his own character not just a glorified reskin.

That isn’t confirmed yet, but why else would the Russo’s say on stage in front of the world that not only is it Victor Von doom, but that there is only ONE actor who could play him? Robert Downey Jr. just said recently that when he was talking to Kevin Feige about coming back, Feige said “let’s get Victor Von doom right”. Do the math my friend. But other than that, him just being a Tony variant is so obvious, it’s not clever or creative enough. Robert Downey Jr. just won an Oscar, the Russo Brothers have their own production company, it’s not like they needed this. So if they’re coming back there has to be a great idea and a great story in mind and I just don’t think a Tony Stark Dr. doom variant is exciting enough to convince them to clear their calendars for the next two years.

I agree with Colton and have said this when this was all announced. You can’t tell me that Tony invented time travel and didn’t test it himself before bringing it to the team. He had to have created multiple variants in the process.

When they finished Loki, they were highly impressed by Jonathan Majors's acting and decided to make Kang the big bad. But then after Quantumania flopped badly, they realised that needed to move away from Kang because he didn't feel 'intimidating' enough(not my words) and tried to bring in someone else, who turned out to be Doom. This was before Jonathan Majors was declared guilty. Also yes Endgame's final scene is not a reference to Doom, but now it can be. Retcons happen all the time, it's not a difficult task to retcon and say, "Yes, that was Doom!" I mean they even retconned that the little kid at Stark Expo in Iron Man 2 was Peter Parker and we know this wasn't possible cuz Sony didn't lease them Spidey rights back then, but retcons happen.
I think people are forgetting Kang vs doom is a big thing in the marvel comics right now so Kang will return with a new story most likely facing doom cause they both fight through the timeline
They should include Kang in Doomsday one way or another, even if its a minimal role. Either have Doom defeat the council of kangs to steal their tech or have him be the villain in Doomsday and Doom can defeat him to become the big bad

Because they can’t be bothered to write a reasonable explanation or answer, or that have and they are waiting for the reveal on screen to not mess up the audience’s expectations and excitement. That’s a big OR; as I don’t think they will do it proper justice to make it actually make proper sense of it for the whole audience, I think they will go for the mass appeal rather than commonsense appeal, as RDJ wouldn’t be cast if they cared about actual storytelling. They back pedaled like crazy after the J Majors news, going with the mass audience and media commentators opinion, they didn’t learn from how they treated Depp, even if he is found guilty (for trying to help his lady), they destroyed the relationships they built, they only care about the bottom line of $$$. No more Pirates movies with Depp until Disney apologise, which they haven’t, and no more Kang because they care more about current public opinion rather than future public opinion. Otherwise we wouldn’t have half the actors we have now. The MCU have established that not all variants of the same person has the same face. Loki has met a lot of versions of himself that are not Tom Hiddleston. Tom Holland's Spider-Man teamed up with the previous incarnations of Spider-Man played by Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield. John Krasinski is not returning as Reed Richards because Pedro Pascal is Reed. Deadpool met the Cavillrine, Chris Evans' Johnny Storm, Wesley Snipes' Blade and Jennifer Garner's Elektra. They've even recast a few characters within the 616 MCU like Rhodey, Hulk, Fandral and most recently Thaddeus Ross even though their faces changing made absolutely no sense.

Social media has ruined entertainment. Remember the days when we would learn things like this once we went to see the movie and not years before the studio even knew what the movie would be? Studios put things out without even having a plan when back in the day things just got released when it was time for them to be and it made the viewing experience way better. You didn’t know what to expect and everything was a genuine surprise. Imagine if they never told us RDJ was coming back and we all went to see the Fan4 movie and halfway through we get a scene where Dr Doom takes his mask off and we see RDJ. That reveal would have broke theaters. But now we know to expect him so people so in every marvel movie going forward until he is shown people are just gonna speculate and anticipate him being in them which kinda ruins them if he isn’t. I just wanna go back to being genuinely surprised by movies again.
I don’t think Doom be a variant of Tony Stark. I also don’t think he will have RJD’s face… at least not right away. I think he will be scarred Doom. I think at some point, he will use a combination of science and magic to assume the identity of Tony Stark.

I think it's the most likely that RDJ's Doom will initially appear in the Fantastic Four First Steps film. We know he won't be the main antagonist, but it's likely that he'll be vaguely referenced throughout the film and maybe even make a full appearance in the post-credit scene. And I don't see RDJ making an appearance of any kind in MCU Spider-Man 4 especially since it's "supposed to be" right after Avengers Doomsday.

This is definitely a desperation move. They replaced Kang with RDJ playing Doom because of a scandal with Jonathan Majors? They brought the most popular actor of the MCU to play the most popular villain of the comics. But there are so many ways this could be a bad combo. Namely, Victor von Doom is not Iron Man! And what's worse about this, I've got a similar idea for my fifth book dealing with a multiversal villain that is a variant of a member of my superhero team. At least Amy Simpson isn't dead. She's the co-lead of the story helping the heroes take down her wicked counterpart. Doctor Doom being there looking like Tony after his death would tarnish Iron Man's legacy. But in my franchise, Amy will live on as the Flying Girl of the Justicers, helping her boyfriend Jeremy Floeter the Flying Boy save lives. Within the aforementioned fifth book, The Flying Boy 2: Amy's Flight, Amy will fight her evil counterpart Maxy multiple times. And unlike the case of Doom who has been confirmed to be Victor von Doom and not a variant of Tony Stark, Maxy really was a version of Amy from a world where the science and magic communities were switched. In the prime universe of Verse-617861, Amy was a flying mutant. In Maxy's world of Verse-666, she was a witch powerful enough to destroy her own universe, and she did so and now she's trying to conquer the multiverse for a place to live. She was shunned as a nobody in the Nexus Earth that provides shelter to those who lost their universes. Everyone including the other Amies hate her for doing something as awful as genocide, even though it was accidental when she destroyed her world. So she decided to give herself a new name. By scrambling it and crossing it out. Then she went on a quest to conquer the multiverse and threatened to destroy any worlds that don't submit with the same incursion spell she accidentally destroyed her world with. Only this time, she would do it on purpose! Now, I would wonder, what would be Doom's motivation in Doomsday? I bet it doesn't go nearly as deep as what I just said about Maxy. Does he have Tony's face just so that Spider-Man would mistake him for Tony? They should have just made Doom the villain for the Fantastic Four movie with a new actor, not the big multiversal villain. In fact, I would have liked it if the Fantastic Four were on Earth-199999 instead of this retro 60's Earth we're getting. And making Doom look like Tony Stark only enforces the fact that they're in an alternate universe. Come on, Marvel! We've been waiting for these guys to be part of the MCU and you're going to just throw them in an alternate Earth? These alternate Earths should be used for new variants of existing characters and characters whose origin stories have them come from alternate timelines and universes, like Kang! Kang would have made a better multiverse villain.
I’m thinking maybe after Doomsday he can show up in Doctor Strange 3 & have them team up together against the beyonders or something like in the comics all while adapting a version of the time runs out comic book storyline as well that would be dope.
Spider-Man 4 could be set before Doomsday as well. It might be weird though, since Peter is confirmed to be one of the main characters in Doomsday. They could do the Ant-Man and the Wasp routine but they will have to do it right.

Theory: Reed will seek out the aid of Doom in addressing the looming Galactus/ incursion crisis and Doom will rebuff Reed because the Richards are not actually from the dimension they are currently living in. The Richards are from the 616 and their first mission that gave them powers left them stranded in Doom's dimension. The Richards from Doom' s dimension died on their first mission and Doom blames this foreign Reed as an imposter. When their world dies because of Galactus Doom will escape by siphoning power from the herald of Galactus and arrive in the 616 ahead of the FF where he has been for years plotting for their eventual arrival behind the scenes. Doom will be revealed to have been the shadowy threat behind many of the lesser threats destabilizing the world to prepare for his ultimate plan. He hates Reed and wants him to see his world burn the way Doom's world did.
Now I have a theory. In Doctor Strange, Multiverse of madness, there was an empty chair on earth 616 of The Illuminati. We all thought that that might’ve been Iron Man seat or Tony Stark. But, what if that seat was saved for Dr. Doom, Tony Stark, and he just happened to be away when they brought Doctor Strange into the room. We know nothing about earth 616. But some of us believe it’s gonna come down between the battle of earth 616 and the 838. You have the Ultron bots on earth 616. Now who would’ve made them? Now I know it could be a stretch, but not that far from a stretch. He had to come from some earth number. Somewhere in the Multiverse might as well let it be a earth. We already kinda know, 616. That’s the earth. He’s trying to save by putting a shield of armor around the Earth to save off the threats they know it’s coming. How does Loki fit into all of this? He is the over arching protector of the Multiverse. Would it be actually Loki resetting the Multiverse. There’s always going to be a Multiverse. If not by Loki, then Kang or Dr. Doom. Tom Hiddleson has plenty of years left to play Loki. I’m wondering how they’re gonna tie all that in. How can they even reach Loki? The TVA? Does TVA agent help Dr. Doom get there?
I feel like the biggest issue of all of this is that they revealed RDJs role too early. While I’m not stoked about it, they should have made the RDJ casting a surprise in the F4 movie like Ryan mentions here. That would have been HUGE.
Until Marvel says that Doom is a variant of Tony, or vice versa, he IS NOT A VARIANT! And I'm sorry Colton, I love ya but you are wrong...there is a 50/50 chance that they make him a variant, not a 0% chance. I personally think it would be a BIG mistake to make a Doom/Tony variant story instead of completely separate characters as they are in the comics. Doing so will confuse most normal MCU movie fans and also make them think that Chris Evans Jonny Storm is a variant of Steve Rogers and vice versa, regardless if you think the D&W scene was a gag or not, Colton, instead of an introduction to the idea of different characters that look alike but aren't variants of each other and are their own individual characters.

I just hope they don’t do a disservice to Doom and RDJ, himself, by having him introduced and defeated in the same phase. I’d really like to see Doomsday be the film that shows us Doom’s plans, motivations, and background. From there, make Secret Wars the film that will have an ending equivalent to Thanos’s Snap, with Dr Doom having gained all the powers he needed (I imagine powers like Galactus, Loki, etc.) and he creates Battleworld, with the film ending with everybody so shocked to not know where they are now. Let a phase 7 serve as an interlude phase so to end it with two more avengers films that will have God Emperor Doom taken down at that point. If they do a phase 7 it allows them to not have to rush this story; it could be a whole phase where all films take place on Battleworld and/or are prequels that show how certain characters got to Battleworld, such as the Xmen.

I just hope whenever Dr. Doom appears, it's a surprise, and not credited in the intro, or on TH-cam 3 months before the film is in theaters. You know, like Fury in Iron Man 1. Supernatural was really bad about spoiling major surprise guests in the opening credits. After a while, I started holding my hand just high enough to see when the producers were written on the screen.
The only way it works for me is if Tony's parents die when he's very young in a plane crash and he doesn't know who he actually is until much later and already lived and been successful as Victor in Latveria

Tony being Doom makes sense in the comics Tony is adopted and this would fix the probelm with the date when tony met his father in endgame and he has flowers for his pregnant wife and tony was confused bc it was to early. Starks lost a kid and adopted a parentless victor and named him tony and though still very smart no magic and not evil. Tony was always doom.

@@akashvig5007 They weren't actually. It was not until Loki's final episode was filmed that they thought of Kang as the big bad. When they finished Loki, they were highly impressed by Jonathan Majors's acting and decided to make Kang the big bad.
But then after Quantumania flopped badly, they realised that needed to move away from Kang because he didn't feel 'intimidating' enough(not my words) and tried to bring in someone else, who turned out to be Doom. This was before Jonathan Majors was declared guilty.
Also yes Endgame's final scene is not a reference to Doom, but now it can be. Retcons happen all the time, it's not a difficult task to retcon and say, "Yes, that was Doom!" I mean they even retconned that the little kid at Stark Expo in Iron Man 2 was Peter Parker and we know this wasn't possible cuz Sony didn't lease them Spidey rights back then, but retcons happen.

I think people are forgetting Kang vs doom is a big thing in the marvel comics right now so Kang will return with a new story most likely facing doom cause they both fight through the timeline
They should include Kang in Doomsday one way or another, even if its a minimal role. Either have Doom defeat the council of kangs to steal their tech or have him be the villain in Doomsday and Doom can defeat him to become the big bad
Maybe Kang can be a stand in for the Molecule Man? I just really hate that because of one mistake, an entire character's story arc is being scrapped.

The MCU have established that not all variants of the same person has the same face. Loki has met a lot of versions of himself that are not Tom Hiddleston. Tom Holland's Spider-Man teamed up with the previous incarnations of Spider-Man played by Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield. John Krasinski is not returning as Reed Richards because Pedro Pascal is Reed. Deadpool met the Cavillrine, Chris Evans' Johnny Storm, Wesley Snipes' Blade and Jennifer Garner's Elektra. They've even recast a few characters within the 616 MCU like Rhodey, Hulk, Fandral and most recently Thaddeus Ross even though their faces changing made absolutely no sense.

Social media has ruined entertainment. Remember the days when we would learn things like this once we went to see the movie and not years before the studio even knew what the movie would be? Studios put things out without even having a plan when back in the day things just got released when it was time for them to be and it made the viewing experience way better. You didn’t know what to expect and everything was a genuine surprise. Imagine if they never told us RDJ was coming back and we all went to see the Fan4 movie and halfway through we get a scene where Dr Doom takes his mask off and we see RDJ. That reveal would have broke theaters. But now we know to expect him so people so in every marvel movie going forward until he is shown people are just gonna speculate and anticipate him being in them which kinda ruins them if he isn’t. I just wanna go back to being genuinely surprised by movies again.
I don’t think Doom be a variant of Tony Stark. I also don’t think he will have RJD’s face… at least not right away. I think he will be scarred Doom. I think at some point, he will use a combination of science and magic to assume the identity of Tony Stark.

What IF.... Tony lost his family? Never met Pepper, Happy or Rhodie. Most of us are a product of our environment. And very few every cleanly break free of that. I think it's the most likely that RDJ's Doom will initially appear in the Fantastic Four First Steps film. We know he won't be the main antagonist, but it's likely that he'll be vaguely referenced throughout the film and maybe even make a full appearance in the post-credit scene. And I don't see RDJ making an appearance of any kind in MCU Spider-Man 4 especially since it's "supposed to be" right after Avengers Doomsday.

This is definitely a desperation move. They replaced Kang with RDJ playing Doom because of a scandal with Jonathan Majors? They brought the most popular actor of the MCU to play the most popular villain of the comics. But there are so many ways this could be a bad combo. Namely, Victor von Doom is not Iron Man!
And what's worse about this, I've got a similar idea for my fifth book dealing with a multiversal villain that is a variant of a member of my superhero team. At least Amy Simpson isn't dead. She's the co-lead of the story helping the heroes take down her wicked counterpart. Doctor Doom being there looking like Tony after his death would tarnish Iron Man's legacy. But in my franchise, Amy will live on as the Flying Girl of the Justicers, helping her boyfriend Jeremy Floeter the Flying Boy save lives. Within the aforementioned fifth book, The Flying Boy 2: Amy's Flight, Amy will fight her evil counterpart Maxy multiple times. And unlike the case of Doom who has been confirmed to be Victor von Doom and not a variant of Tony Stark, Maxy really was a version of Amy from a world where the science and magic communities were switched. In the prime universe of Verse-617861, Amy was a flying mutant. In Maxy's world of Verse-666, she was a witch powerful enough to destroy her own universe, and she did so and now she's trying to conquer the multiverse for a place to live. She was shunned as a nobody in the Nexus Earth that provides shelter to those who lost their universes. Everyone including the other Amies hate her for doing something as awful as genocide, even though it was accidental when she destroyed her world. So she decided to give herself a new name. By scrambling it and crossing it out. Then she went on a quest to conquer the multiverse and threatened to destroy any worlds that don't submit with the same incursion spell she accidentally destroyed her world with. Only this time, she would do it on purpose!
Now, I would wonder, what would be Doom's motivation in Doomsday? I bet it doesn't go nearly as deep as what I just said about Maxy. Does he have Tony's face just so that Spider-Man would mistake him for Tony? They should have just made Doom the villain for the Fantastic Four movie with a new actor, not the big multiversal villain. In fact, I would have liked it if the Fantastic Four were on Earth-199999 instead of this retro 60's Earth we're getting. And making Doom look like Tony Stark only enforces the fact that they're in an alternate universe. Come on, Marvel! We've been waiting for these guys to be part of the MCU and you're going to just throw them in an alternate Earth? These alternate Earths should be used for new variants of existing characters and characters whose origin stories have them come from alternate timelines and universes, like Kang! Kang would have made a better multiverse villain.

Spider-Man 4 could be set before Doomsday as well. It might be weird though, since Peter is confirmed to be one of the main characters in Doomsday. They could do the Ant-Man and the Wasp routine but they will have to do it right.

Theory: Reed will seek out the aid of Doom in addressing the looming Galactus/ incursion crisis and Doom will rebuff Reed because the Richards are not actually from the dimension they are currently living in. The Richards are from the 616 and their first mission that gave them powers left them stranded in Doom's dimension. The Richards from Doom' s dimension died on their first mission and Doom blames this foreign Reed as an imposter. When their world dies because of Galactus Doom will escape by siphoning power from the herald of Galactus and arrive in the 616 ahead of the FF where he has been for years plotting for their eventual arrival behind the scenes. Doom will be revealed to have been the shadowy threat behind many of the lesser threats destabilizing the world to prepare for his ultimate plan. He hates Reed and wants him to see his world burn the way Doom's world did.
Now I have a theory. In Doctor Strange, Multiverse of madness, there was an empty chair on earth 616 of The Illuminati. We all thought that that might’ve been Iron Man seat or Tony Stark. But, what if that seat was saved for Dr. Doom, Tony Stark, and he just happened to be away when they brought Doctor Strange into the room. We know nothing about earth 616. But some of us believe it’s gonna come down between the battle of earth 616 and the 838. You have the Ultron bots on earth 616. Now who would’ve made them? Now I know it could be a stretch, but not that far from a stretch. He had to come from some earth number. Somewhere in the Multiverse might as well let it be a earth. We already kinda know, 616. That’s the earth. He’s trying to save by putting a shield of armor around the Earth to save off the threats they know it’s coming.
How does Loki fit into all of this? He is the over arching protector of the Multiverse. Would it be actually Loki resetting the Multiverse. There’s always going to be a Multiverse. If not by Loki, then Kang or Dr. Doom. Tom Hiddleson has plenty of years left to play Loki. I’m wondering how they’re gonna tie all that in. How can they even reach Loki? The TVA? Does TVA agent help Dr. Doom get there?

I feel like the biggest issue of all of this is that they revealed RDJs role too early. While I’m not stoked about it, they should have made the RDJ casting a surprise in the F4 movie like Ryan mentions here. That would have been HUGE.

Until Marvel says that Doom is a variant of Tony, or vice versa, he IS NOT A VARIANT! And I'm sorry Colton, I love ya but you are wrong...there is a 50/50 chance that they make him a variant, not a 0% chance. I personally think it would be a BIG mistake to make a Doom/Tony variant story instead of completely separate characters as they are in the comics. Doing so will confuse most normal MCU movie fans and also make them think that Chris Evans Jonny Storm is a variant of Steve Rogers and vice versa, regardless if you think the D&W scene was a gag or not, Colton, instead of an introduction to the idea of different characters that look alike but aren't variants of each other and are their own individual characters.

I’d really like to see Doomsday be the film that shows us Doom’s plans, motivations, and background.
From there, make Secret Wars the film that will have an ending equivalent to Thanos’s Snap, with Dr Doom having gained all the powers he needed (I imagine powers like Galactus, Loki, etc.) and he creates Battleworld, with the film ending with everybody so shocked to not know where they are now.
Let a phase 7 serve as an interlude phase so to end it with two more avengers films that will have God Emperor Doom taken down at that point.
If they do a phase 7 it allows them to not have to rush this story; it could be a whole phase where all films take place on Battleworld and/or are prequels that show how certain characters got to Battleworld, such as the Xmen.

I just hope whenever Dr. Doom appears, it's a surprise, and not credited in the intro, or on TH-cam 3 months before the film is in theaters. You know, like Fury in Iron Man 1. Supernatural was really bad about spoiling major surprise guests in the opening credits. After a while, I started holding my hand just high enough to see when the producers were written on the screen.
The only way it works for me is if Tony's parents die when he's very young in a plane crash and he doesn't know who he actually is until much later and already lived and been successful as Victor in Latveria

Tony being Doom makes sense in the comics Tony is adopted and this would fix the probelm with the date when tony met his father in endgame and he has flowers for his pregnant wife and tony was confused bc it was to early. Starks lost a kid and adopted a parentless victor and named him tony and though still very smart no magic and not evil. Tony was always doom.
