    My father was born 2 years before the start of the depression. He grew up eating just about anything and everything you can imagine. Dad said that you could eat everything on a pig except the “oink”. 😂 I knew of only two foods that my dad wouldn’t eat: parsnips and chipped beef on toast which he called “sh!t on a shingle”, because he was served so much of it in the army. Dad promised himself he wouldn’t eat it ever again. My Mom, however, loved it, so she would fix it for herself when Dad wasn’t home.

    Hahahaha loves the pickled food series. I have to say I've had pickled muscles here in Newfoundland, Canada. The simple pickled wieners and eggs but the best was pickled moose tongue. So I'd say your lamb was ok lol

    You all are a lot more braver than I am. I wouldn't even think of eating that. I once watched a co-worker eating a pickled pig's foot. Between the sight of him biting into it, the sounds of him eating it, the look of him tearing off some of the white gooey stuff, the smell, and the dripping juices put me off of that for life.
    Now I do like dill pickles (with garlic and red pepper) and pickled beets. Occasionally I get a craving for pickled beets.

    My grandfather quite liked tripe, and I could count on it being served several times a year when I visited, which I did almost every weekend. He would coat it in cornmeal and fry it up. It was edible.

      Tripe is especially good in menudo. The taqueria near my house does it on the weekends, and I was fortunate enough to get some on a Monday when there was leftover. Texture could throw people off, but the flavor of the soup is phenomenal.

    There is a dish commonly eaten in the Caribbean where we use those cuts of meat , snout , ears , feet , tail etc and it's usually cooked and eaten with pickled stuff , it's called souse prepared different so you guys may enjoy it if u do ever come to the Caribbean

    • @sheryljohnson6602
      @sheryljohnson6602 ปีที่แล้ว

      And here I was, thinking souse was a southern thing. My grandmother grew up a Kentucky farm girl, and definitely cooked like one. Every year my great uncle, who was a farmer, would bring us all kinds of meat after a slaughter. He always brought a pigs head, ears, tails, etc... My grandmother couldn't wait get it into the pressure cooker so she could make souse. I'm betting the Caribbean version is MUCH better, though.

    Ox tongue in broth is something that is regularly eaten during celebrations here in Europe (Belgium). But we're smart enough to peel them before eating them... 😄
    The tip is my favourite, with croquettes, tomato sauce and Parisian mushrooms... 🤤
    Tripe was often eaten in the past, not so much anymore (stinks when you boil it), and snout is also still eaten, usually in stews (but not by everyone).

    I was in tears from laughing! 😂🤣😂 By far one of the funniest episodes ever!!!
    I'm like Grainne, not afraid to try different foods. 👍The only food that ever made me chuck, was a white sauce Coubion, with chunks of Gaspergou (Goo) Fish. The coubion was delicious until I scooped a chunk of Goo fish into my mouth. The slimy texture, and overwhelming smell and taste of rotten swamp mud sent me gagging and running outside! I dumped the bowl and returned inside to the sink. The old cajun woman who cooked the coubion saw the empty bowl and joyously said "you must really liked it!" I politely smiled. She grabbed the bowl and refilled it. Dermot's reaction trying the Pig Snout reminded me of that day. 😂

    So coming from a Mexican heritage, my grandmother used to boil cow’s tongue and then slice it thin, fry it and cut it up for tacos. It’s actually killer and is starting to catch on in mainstream American culture, though it’s not like my grandma’s. Also Menudo is made with tripe and very good after a night of drinking, another dish that’s getting popular in American culture. That being said, pickled anything other than cucumbers or other various veggies is off the table for me. That totally had me rolling! 😂
