From 2001-2005 I was a WWE wrestler. I had the time of my life, traveling the world and entertaining people. The saddest day, though, was the I day I got fired.
I was thinking the same thing. Holding yourself accountable and not blaming other to what happens to you is such an important aspect of life. You will never be successful or happy without being accountable to your own actions. Huge respect to him for sharing this story. Very interesting.

Getting fired from any job is really difficult. Especially something that you worked at and were good at. In America, it seems like our identities are tied to what we do for a living. It's pretty sad when you think about it. But in the end, Maven did something that millions and millions of kids all over the world have dreamed of doing. Nothing & nobody can ever take that away.
still remember in the early 90s. the undertaker is like not very popuplar cause he acted so amateur. However, later on the in late 90s, he is extremely popular from there on. he is acting a lot better and with his own special moves.

The company is to blame for as well. You have to watch Maven during his time in WWE and he was not utilize very well. At first, we saw the push with him winning royal rumble but after that, he became a jobber. No matter how much you improve, if the boss says you will lose to the Undertaker, Hulk Hogan, Triple H, Shawn Michaels, Ric Flair, and other top superstars without even getting in a win from one of those guys, then you are doom. WWE is scripted and fake, winning shouldn't matter but those guys egos are too big to admit defeat.
I've been struggling with the shock and shame of being unexpectedly fired for months. Your words about having part of your identity and your world taken away really helped put words to a feeling i couldn't describe. And you're not wrong : given the chance you'd have been a great speaker (if your TH-cam content is anything to go by). Thanks Maven.
What I love about Maven is that he doesn't hide from accountability. Even when he was out there putting in a hard shift he acknowledges he could have given more. People like Maven can fail and then learn from their mistakes to become better than they were previously, where so many these days cannot accept responsibility and become a victim and if you are the victim then there is no life lesson to learn as you did nothing wrong in your mind. I find him inspiring.
I used to "hate" him back in the day, and I can admit that. He reminded me of a generic created character out of a video game, but he's earned my respect because of moments like these

There isn’t many guys like Maven in pro wrestling. Whenever they get fired. It’s this guys fault, or that guys fault, or this guy didn’t like me and politicked to keep me down, or the promoter didn’t like me, or I had heat with this guy and that guy.

I was a wrestler for 6 years. This May, I had to retire at 20 years old because of a reckless worker. Hearing Maven talk about seeing the business as an Ex move on happier with their life echos a lot of what I’ve been going through the past few months. It’s nice to hear I’m not alone in those thoughts. Thanks Maven.

Well, they didn't because as he stated he advised to 'get out there and prove himself' while had all the time and opportunities, but he never took advantage of the opportunities to do so.
He definitely has an excellent on-air presence NOW but that took time to develop. Back then, his articulation probably wasn't as good as it is now. But no doubt, today he's absolutely fantastic at it. Complete natural now.

There are so many great things that happen to us when we are working with a large company, until the day comes when that company decides it no longer needs us in that position. that moment of termination can feel like the world around us has stopped and that we are out of options. the truth of the matter is that that we are so much more capable of creating a life for ourselves than that company could ever achieve for us. Maven, you are doing awesome. keep doing what you are doing and keep grinding for yourself!
why we define ourselves by our job, that's one of depressing things to think about. i've been a truck driver for 2 years now, currently working as a fuel delivery driver. i'm one point away from getting fired (company's policy) because i made some petty mistakes while doing deliveries. trucking isn't my passion, but i don't know what else to do afterwards. it's only a matter of time for me because anything can happen, and i've been depressed about that because i feel like i will be nobody again. Much respect to Maven for sharing his painful experience of losing his job that he loved. best wishes.

Maven! I dont know if you know this man, but your content is among the BEST of all the wrestling content on TH-cam. In terms of inside stuff from actual wrestlers. And I respect your in ring work, but you definitely weren't my favorite. Which just lends more credit to your ability here, your killing it man, keep it man and thanks!

I am a fan of wrestling I did not watch your run on WWE, but hearing your words about your separation from the business and watching your videos which gave me new insight on wrestling made me a fan of yours, morewer maven!
Can we petition the WWE to get Maven a commentary gig or a backstage interviewer position? Perhaps he could be a manager? He's always been charismatic and can clearly cut a promo (these entertaining videos are proof of that). And he's just a good guy.

To be honest I absolutely loved watching you. From the first day I saw you on Tough Enough I was instantly a fan of yours. Too this day I still have your first WWE action figure (only wwe figure I’ve ever bought) I stopped watching wrestling a few years ago but I’m getting back into it. I was a wrestler for 6 years. This May, I had to retire at 20 years old because of a reckless worker. Hearing Maven talk about seeing the business as an Ex move on happier with their life echos a lot of what I’ve been going through the past few months. Well, they didn't because as he stated he advised to 'get out there and prove himself' while had all the time and opportunities, but he never took advantage of the opportunities to do so.
He definitely has an excellent on-air presence NOW but that took time to develop. Back then, his articulation probably wasn't as good as it is now. But no doubt, today he's absolutely fantastic at it. Complete natural now.
@@neelt2001 I doubt that because unless you are annointed, WWE buries anybody that goes off script, they don't allow you to speak or express yourself, they neuter you with bad writing and promos. A lot of these guys already have the personality and charisma.

this is not just a video for WWE... this is a video for corporate America. There are so many great things that happen to us when we are working with a large company, until the day comes when that company decides it no longer needs us in that position. that moment of termination can feel like the world around us has stopped and that we are out of options. the truth of the matter is that that we are so much more capable of creating a life for ourselves than that company could ever achieve for us. Maven, you are doing awesome. keep doing what you are doing and keep grinding for yourself!

why we define ourselves by our job, that's one of depressing things to think about. i've been a truck driver for 2 years now, currently working as a fuel delivery driver. i'm one point away from getting fired (company's policy) because i made some petty mistakes while doing deliveries. trucking isn't my passion, but i don't know what else to do afterwards. it's only a matter of time for me because anything can happen, and i've been depressed about that because i feel like i will be nobody again. Much respect to Maven for sharing his painful experience of losing his job that he loved. best wishes.

I just randomly had a wrestling memory lane situation and I came across ur videos and I don't rememeber watching u wrestle bc I stopped watching shortly after the attitude Era ended and stone cold had retired that time.
Anyway I been watching ur videos I've seen like 4 and I'm so impressed with ur character. U seem to be really grounded and like see things in a very realistic way where u see ur weaknesses and embrace then and accept them and don't run or deny somthing that may be true. It's commendable

I'm so glad you have a TH-cam channel. I was rooting for you ever since Tough Enough in the early 2000s!! and I was very into wrestling around that time. It'll be nice to catch up on some of your matches, because at that time I thought that those contracts were only a few years and I stopped watching WWE, well, not long after it became WWE.
