Connect & Learn - Gateshead Community Bridgebuilders - building community power

The Connect & Learn sessions are a series of online learning events, planned with the purpose of sharing and spreading improvement work across the North East and North Cumbria health and care system.
Each with a different focus, the Connect & Learns are more than just information-sharing - they are an opportunity for you to connect with like-minded colleagues around a specific topic, to generate ideas, and take forward improvements in your own work, team, or service.
This session on 17 September 2024 saw Andy Crosbie (Director, Collective Impact Agency/Gateshead Community Bridgebuilders) and Fozia Haider (Gateshead Community Bridgebuilder) present 'Gateshead Community Bridgebuilders - building community power'.
This team is working to enable local people to have the opportunities, skills, and confidence to engage in making decisions that are going to improve their lives now and in the future.
The Gateshead Community Bridgebuilders (GCB) are a team of individuals who represent many of the diverse communities of Gateshead. This team runs experiments which try to challenge the systems that marginalise and build the power of local communities.
The Bridgebuilders believe that empowered communities are essential for a healthy society. In this session, you will hear what this team has done to achieve that end, the challenges they have encountered, what it is like to step into a new type of decision-making space, and what they have learnt in the process.
