    A superlative article. I'm going through the process of buying my first decent multimeter. God knows, there are so many out there! Often, too many choices creates problems. Comparing spec sheets goes only so far. So, listening to one's real life experience is a big help. I'm "sold" and will be buying an MM700.

    I bought one in a pinch at a big box store my opinion of it is it’s a pile of junk. The auto range is horrible takes 3-4 seconds to get a reading. Even on manual range it’s 2 seconds for a stable reading. The leads are absolutely garbage. Personally I don’t recommend buying this one, save yourself some frustration and get a Fluke 87 or equivalent. Who has time to wait 3-4 seconds for a reading? This meter will drive you crazy and slow down your diagnosis to a crawl!

    I mainly do low voltage stuff, cameras, internet, cable, alarms, stuff like that. I’ve been using a $7 meter from Harbor Freight, I’ve had it since before I started doing this stuff, and I’ve wanted a new meter for awhile. Was on a job today, yanked it off of what it was sitting on, and broke it all to hell. Grabbed this one from Home Depot, and I’m happy I did. One accessory you didn’t point out was the clip ends for the leads, that’s great for low voltage stuff.

    Interesting, recently I ordered from Amazon the Amazon commercial 6000 multimeter. During a work on a boiler tank I replaced the heating element and I accidentally spilled water inside the tank on some cheap multi meters I was using. Even though it was inexpensive multimeter I opened it and I was able to dry the inside (it was drenched), this is why I decided getting IP rated multimeters. Getting one from known brand like fluke would have been prohibitively expensive so I just got the best one I could find on Amazon at a reasonable price. I should get it soon I hope it will be reliable and somewhat dependable.

    It's a great meter. But being a fire alarm guy, it is a bit annoying that it defaults on AC. It would be nice it you could change to DC as default. My old one was megger, I loved that one.
    Nice review though bud! Just subscribed. Love me some klien, knipex, nws and bahco 👌

      So question for you that I can't work out how to do on this meter. What setting do you put it on to measure quiessant charge. Aka turning the power off and measuring how many amps it pulls on battery only stable, then battery only in alarm

    • @888MUSKETT888
      @888MUSKETT888 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@danstoolroom7700 I haven't used it much yet as I only got it a couple weeks ago. But looking at the meter I would put it on the 10 amps setting and 10amp plug hole. That's the setting I used to use on my old megger. It should still read lower currents on load tests, for example, if you was reading 200ma it would just show as 0.2amp. I never used the uA setting, I think that is for low current cct boards.

      @888MUSKETT888 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@danstoolroom7700 *edit sorry just see you was talking about quiescent current aswell as load! My bad. If the current is really low, 10amp setting might be out of range, so you'd have to flick it over to mA

      @@danstoolroom7700 Dan, I've been recently using a Klein clamp meter that does DC current. Absolute game changer for load tests, no need to unplug batts. Just clamp over the battery poss and pull the mains out. 👌

    I want something accurate on DC voltage and continuity to replace a very old Fluke. Independent reviews have shown this to be a good choice. Thanks for an excellent overview review. The ability to measure temp is a big advantage. Having to use a separate adapter is a bit of a pain, even cheap multi-meters allow you to just plug in a temp lead.

    Nice Review. I bought this model late last year. It was about $110.00 Canadian and well worth it. I have used fluke brand at my work places, but I can't justify the price for home use. I had a couple of other cheap units which are OK for quick test, but for my electronics lab (hobby) I wanted a good meter.

    Great review!!
    I bought the MM400 first, and had to exchange it. I was trying to test small circuit board capacitors for capacitance and I could not get the meter to give me a good reading. I was never able to zero it out properly. Even emailed Klein and they gave me a few suggestions. They suggested it may be a problem with that particular meter and said I could send it to them, or if it has not been too long, take it back to the store. I took it back to the store and exchanged it for the mm700.
    I absolutely LOVE this meter.
    I use it mainly for electronics, and have now tested about 300 capacitors with it. Very reliable and enjoy it immensely. I like that it came with the clamps, although for my smaller components, I did buy another smaller set to use with this.

      I purchased the MM700 in a pinch, I got sick of not having a Multi Meter and I needed one to test my alternator / battery. I have been wanting to get more into electronics repair as I have been building PCs and doing phone / tablet repairs so I picked up the MM700. I would just replace entire boards rather than trying to fix them and always wished I could repair the boards. I've saved them, all of them. So I have plenty of test stuff around.
      Do you think the MM700 is good for my usage? Do you know how to set it so it will default to DC rather than AC? That is the only thing I don't like about it, clearly more for electricians in the field.

    2 Questions please & thank you:
    1.) Is the temp testing lead capable of testing a solder iron tip temperature ?
    2.) Can it function as a millivolt meter IE. read 20mV @ 175kHz bandwidth ?
