Land Rover Discovery 3: How To Change Your Oil & Filter -Your Engine Will Last Forever -

  • Changing the oil on your LandRover LR3/LR4 is just the same process as most all other vehicles. With the exception of skid plates. Once you take off the 2 skid plates off your Land Rover LR3/LR4 or Range Rover Sport you will finish the job in less than 10 minutes. These are the step for the gas or petrol model.
    I had the air suspension lower to access height and then drove onto my ramps so I didn't have to rely on the air struts to hold up the vehicle.

    Thanks once again. Here is a little tip. If you use a smaller funnel and pour in quite a bit of oil you will sometimes get "burps" that splash oil over the engine. To prevent this remove the dipstick. This provides an escape route for the air in the oil pan. Waiting for some more offroad videos and drone shots.

      Gordon Wedman I'm a little jealous I've been looking at those here lately. But I do need the third row but I still want one hahaha. So how do you like it and how does it drive?

    • @gordonwedman3179
      @gordonwedman3179 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      It is great. I try to find excuses to drive it around. Basically effortless, quiet, comfortable driving. I like the dashboard layout as well, very easy to use. Only negative is the navigation is not up to date. Latest available DVD is 2012 so I use my $65 TomTom VIA which has free lifetime updates as opposed to $200US. Of course gas mileage is not great, 17mpg (Imperial) but that's OK. Cheers.

    Also best to do this when the oil is hot after you've been for a drive as oil flows better when it's warmer and the contaminants will be circulated in the old oil instead of sitting at the bottom.

    I know most in the USA have petrol engines, but heads up if you do have a 2.7 V6, the sump plug is on the bottom of the sump and points straight down for a cleaner, less fussy oil drop. In addition, the oil filter is under a plastic cover under the bonnet (hood) and is really easy to access....

    • @oxmanagain
      @oxmanagain  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I know some people love the coil conversions and me particular I like the air suspension. But either way as long as the miles are respectable you should have a pretty decent vehicle. I will say the majority of the problems come from the air suspension so you might have a point. But, with that said I have a 190,000 mi and I'm just starting to have problems in the last 4 to 8,000 mi.

    Great Video ! Congratulations !
    Your Engine is 4.4 V8 made by BMW , And Land Rover uses anothers engines , for example 4.0 V6 ( Ford Explorer ) and 2.7 V6 Turbo Diesel (Peugeot/Citroën) . This third is most complicated to change oil filter , because is in top of the engine between cilinders And you need one big tool ( 30 or 32mm key i dont remember ) And have attention with rubber seal on filter housing .
    Your Car is most simple to change , compared to others .
    Anyway great video and great content on your channel !

    Hey brother. so I have a 05 lr3 hse. I had a problem with the air flow so I cleaned the throttle housing. all good but I have a question, the housing has a metal gasket so I was wondering should I smear some oil on the gasket for a good seal before attaching the housing back ? first time doing something like this and your videos are inspiring and has made me do a lot more on my lanny. thank you sir

      Hello. I start with 7 quarts and then I put the vehicle on flat ground and I checked the dipstick and add whatever it is I need. I appreciate you watching.

  • @spinkness
    @spinkness 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    This won't work for the lr4 HSE as it has the oil filter at the top, has no dipstick, and no drain plug. The vacuum method will need to be used.

      Lr4 has similar procedure. No Vacuum needed. Cartridge filter is on top, drain plug is on the bottom. No dip stick, but has a digital level meter.

    Awesome video, I did everything as you mention on the video. The only concern that I have is that when I drove it after the oil change was done. While I was driving it said on the dash. Suspension Fault and no driving over 30 miles an hour. Any ideas how to get rid of that? Thanks I hope I can get some help.

      Have you ever had this happened before?

    • @jsob1970
      @jsob1970 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I had a suspension fault message on my lr4. I took it to the dealer and they replaced a sensor, I believe, and that solved the suspension fault message. I don’t recall the cost.

    • @kimkleiner8456

      As far as suspension fault I believe that there is a reference to how to avoid it in the tire changing section of the owner's manual. Don't have owner's manual in front of me but I believe it had something to do with key position, suspension setting ( off road), and 120 second wait when restarting vehicle after using the jack. Because oxman drove the vehicle up on ramps he wouldn't have needed to follow this procedure. Obviously my memory of the procedure is incomplete but I urge anyone jacking the vehicle up for any reason to read that section of owners manual. I came across this when I had a flat and came across it because i didn't know how to lower the spare. Glad I saw this additional info because I normally wouldn't have consulted the manual to change a flat. Thank you oxman for your excellent videos. The one where you highlighted the different positions of the rear seats sold me on the LR3. Lovin it so far!

    • @oxmanagain

      I had a similar issue with one side lower than the other. Do you have a leak in one of the struts airbags? If you raise the Rover does it level out then? What else is going on with your suspension? The more info you can give might help both of us figure out the problem.

    I do this to mine,,but you dont need to put it up on ramps,,the car is high enough to get under it easily on the tires..Use synthetic oil and change it every 6000 miles and it will last for 300K
