hi! so i just went for my interview at the US Embassy so i thought i'd share what happened for those who are overthinking it 😂. I am a student ! i applied for the f-1 visa just fyi :)) i turn 18 in december so apparently i needed a parent to enter the building with me. at the front of the embassy, theres a queue line to wait. once its your turn, you give them your ic and passport ( they keep your ic ) and they give you a visitors pass then you put all electronics in a basket ( not metal items ) and you enter the building ( thats another queue to enter ) then you hit a security check point, like the ones at airports, you put your gadget basket and EVERYTHING on you like your bag and stuff. then they give you a number tile so you can claim your stuff when you leave. after this, you leave the room and walk across the area to another building with a huge clock on it. once in, you meet a lady or man who tells you where to go and they give you a sticker to put behind your passport. you then go to a counter and they asked for my DS 160, I-20, and passport. after that, you go to the next counter and they ask to scan your sticker and they scan both your hands and thumbs. then you get a waiting number and you wait at the waiting room which is opposite the room you are in. THE WAITING PROCESS! I WAITED FOR 2 HOURS MAN. it depends on when you go but for me it was so bad. AND WE DIDNT HAVE PHONES OR ANYTHING. but i digress. they call your number (eventually) and you line up in the first room and wait your turn. the interview happens at counters with 2 walls beside it. and you talk to the interviewer. they ask you easy questions like for me it was why 'my uni' ? and what do your parents do and they also asked for proof of funds. OH they told me that they couldnt give me my visa now because it wasnt 120 days from my program start date !! IMPORTANT INFO! i wasnt told this. so they told me that i've been approved of the visa but i cant get it yet. they told me to drop it off at a droppff point when it becomes 120 days until your program starts. then pick it up around 3-5 working days at the same spot you dropped it off at. they gave me a yellow letter to drop off my passport with. thats basically it. then i left and retrieved my gadgets and ic at the entrance before leaving and returned the visitors pass. all in all, pretty quick unincluding the wait time. very easy, dont sweat it !

Hi, I'm not sure about the current state of the embassy as I applied more than a year ago. When I was there, they did keep my belongings with them for security purposes. It is best for you to call the embassy and ask them about it. Good luck with your interview!

You should be getting an appointment confirmation letter upon registering at the website. The appointment confirmation letter needs to be scanned at the embassy for security. You will not be admitted into the building without an appointment confirmation letter. Try to email/call them to resolve the issue.
