I'm truly delighted how many people this has reached. 25,000 in the first 27 days. Thank you everyone and especially Tony Brooks for the wonderful narration. You folks are wonderful. Cheers! Francois
As someone who lives there now, it is so fascinating seeing what my areas used to be like 100 years ago. The state it has since fallen into should be counted amongst one of the greatest shames in all of Pennsylvanian history.
*Wilkes-Barre was BUSTLING at the time! Here it is, a day short of July 4th, 2020, 92 years later, I'm looking at this city and it's surroundings in awe. Great find!*
I grew up there in the 60s and 70s. It was a great place at the time. I haven’t been back for many years but I heard it’s changed ...and not for the better.
I still live outside the area towards shickshinny. It's an ok area. The BS that does go on doesn't really involve alot of innocent collateral tho. Although drugs are becoming rampant after being found to be a great hud for the tri-state drug trades. Places like sherman hills, OKT, and majority of developments in the area and surrounding towns getting alot of trafficking in the areas. Could careless about the pot since that's making a change but heroin and meth are such a huge problem. Along with the recent spike in fentanyl laced products in the past couple years has added to a sad death rate we are starting to carry. Industry is doing great still just inner cities are starting to slowly destroy themselves with the bigger city populace moving in to get away from it only for it to follow them. Scranton is a shamble of a city and so is hazleton. Won't be long before Wilkes Barre becomes just like them.
Its horrible here everyday I wish to get out I feel trapped in a coal town with 0 opportunity. I also have a college degree in architectural engineering and there isn't a job available im my field within 100 miles of where I live

@@SusanChristmas My in-laws live in Plains and I wish they would move. Still ok but Wilkes Barry is a mess and I think is only matter of time that Plains will follow.
I still live here and and everything is now garbage. They say it's up and coming but all it is now is filled with thugs drug dealers addicts and potholes.
Yeah, it went declined in 60’s so they rented rooms to local college students. Before it torn down, I’ve seen pictures of lobby. It was sad. Same as Scranton’s 1911 Casey Hotel too. Razed 2001.
A valid question that deserves a considerate answer. Tony Brooks was kind enough to produce the voice over in Wilkes-Barre at his expense and send the audio file to me some 3400 km distance in British Columbia. The voice over length was created to match the length and tell the most effective story. Sadly, It is very challenging to line up every word with every sight or location precisely. Also, I'm doing this for everyone's enjoyment. I have literally no budget. I find these films with the intention of preserving them, learning more about them and then sharing them with viewers like you. Otherwise these little gems would be lost forever. I've saved many of them from an ending in the landfill. It's great enjoyment for me to share in this capacity. I hope the explanation makes sense. Cheers.
In you narration, you keep referring to what we’re “ going to see” rather than what is on the screen now. It would have been much more interesting to keep the narration concurrent with the film. I was at a loss many times because I kinda knew where I was, but wanted confirmation. Thanks.
I wish the camera had been more securely mounted on something. It was obviously hand-held in a car with primitive shocks. The camera-shake is enough to cause nausea. I couldn't watch this all at once, had to keep pausing.
Did you say Bosco or Boscov’s? I’m not sure what I hear. Nice video and loved vintage houses. Today at W-B isn’t that bad at all and before Interstate 81.
Whoever is speaking over this, word of advice...actually watch this as your speaking so that what you are describing coincides with what we see. This is horribly put together. If you need a real editor, Im friends with a big youtuber who would fix this for some cash.

I thought there are a lot of American flags and banners today in scranton/wilkesbarre nope i was wrong!!
W-B will always be home no matter where I go!
it is so surreal to see my hometown, where my family was raised for generations, almost 80 years before i was born. thank you so much for this! :)
What awesome history. I love the city of Wilkes-Barré. 💪❤️
I’ve never in my life heard anyone say that they love Wilkes-Barre.
2:25 he cut the guy off. Yup still like wilkes barre today 😂
Good one very accurate
I currently live within 5 miles of wilkes-barre. Great part of history. The city is nothing what it used to be..
I'm sorry to hear that 🤭🤭🤭
@Steph Watson good nobody cares
Of course, it's not what it used to be. Welcome to the Rust Belt.
I lived IN Wilkes Barre, & ur absolutely right, ha.
Bigotry?!
Love this.
Awwww this video makes me want to take a stroll through Sherman hills 😆
Were they giving fines for trespassing for strolls in Sherman Hills back then too?

I moved to Wilkes Barre about a year ago this just popped up on my news feed. Nice video
This video is such a hidden gem
Awesome Footage
Lived in W-B all my life, cool video.
I worked in the Hotel Sterling for many years. Sadly it was torn down years ago. So many wonderful landmarks have been destroyed.

Wow aesome video.. I had not idea there were so many cars in Wilkes Barre in 1928. Lots of flags also, was this the 4th of July?
I wish the roads still looked this good here (':
Who would of thought my home town would be in TH-cam lol
I live in wilkes now. Though I dont do much in town.
I live in dallas which is pretty close to me..... amazing... wilkes barre seems cleaner
Cool
"Wilkes-barre pa during prohibition this is incredible but amazing just simply amazing".
Here's a thought, why not have the narration match what we are seeing.

The narrator is a classist snob straight from Jane Austen.
look at all the trees!
A lot more "green" then, hah. Looked pretty beautiful.

570, unhappy valley baby lets go.
You're saying everything named Wyoming in the country is named after Wyoming valley in PA?
That's true. The state of Wyoming was named afer the Wyoming Valley.
I wish the camera had been more securely mounted on something. It was obviously hand-held in a car with primitive shocks. The camera-shake is enough to cause nausea. I couldn't watch this all at once, had to keep pausing.
This is strange to see. I’m originally from WB
Interesting video and I liked the concept of old school dash cam. However commentary was way off in some parts.

Narration is way out of sync with the video.

I like Lithuania - you know the land is flat there!!
How beautiful "America" was before EUROPEAN WESTERN
Not Wilkes Berry.
I thought it was pronounced wilks bar?
There's many different ways people say it but it was named after someone who has founded it or sum and it's pronounced Wilkes-Bear-e
