In this video, I'm going to talk about the upcoming album from Azawi, one of the most talented and versatile singers in Uganda and Africa. The album is called Sankofa, and it is set to be released on October 9, 2023.
Sankofa is the second album from Azawi, who rose to fame with her debut album African Music in 2022. The album featured hit songs like "Quinamino", "Lo Fit", "Repeat It", and "Crazy Lover". The album earned her several awards and nominations, including the Best Female Artist in East Africa at the 2022 All Africa Music Awards (AFRIMA) ¹.
Sankofa is a word from the Akan language of Ghana, which means "go back and get it". It is also a symbol of learning from the past and using it to shape the future. This is the theme of Azawi's album, which honors her roots and exudes African pride. The album consists of 16 tracks, which showcase Azawi's musical diversity and creativity. She explores different genres and rhythms from the continent, such as rumba, dancehall, amapiano, bongo flava, and Afrobeats. She also sings in English and Luganda, her native language.
