That first card that they passed around didn't just show their differences, it also showed how they were alike. Mitch and Scott both identify as gay. Scott and Avi are both men. Avi and Kevin are both American. Kevin and Kirstin are both Christian. But all of them are individuals. Their differences make the group stronger, not weaker; they're celebrating their diversity even as they celebrate the ways that they're alike, and that is truly in the spirit of "Imagine."
You speak of politics and race and religion as things that are causing us to fragment as a society, and you aren't wrong. But Pentatonix is demonstrating how societies should hold together, with love and empathy for those who are different from us, not just because at the end of the day we're all human, but because it is our very differences that give us a wider perspective, that make us wiser, more compassionate people.

this vid honestly has a special place in my heart - the signs they hold up do express their individuality & diversity, but when one of them pass the sign on to the next person, it shows something they have in common. its wonderful that theyre all proud to be who they are & at the same time unified as friends- humans - who love & accept each other not just despite those differences, but because of them. 💙 i also think this vid is a beacon of light for fans who are members of oppressed minorities, especially in the context of when it was posted (shortly after the 2016 US presidential elections) as it makes us feel seen, loved, & safe to be their fans. the world can feel very small sometimes, it's always nice to know who our allies are. thanks for reacting to this! can't wait for the next one :^)

I love how music can mean what we need to hear at the time. I always interpreted the lyrics as John Lennox’s plea for the world to set aside the forces that led nations to declare war. PTX, reacting to current threats, chose to interpret the song as a way to celebrate how our individual differences can enhance our humanity. Peace from Ohio …

Did you catch that the card they passed was how they are the same and the cards they flipped was how they are different. They also did it with sound at the end. They were all singing different notes and ended with perfect harmony

    • @anna9072
      @anna9072 ปีที่แล้ว +4

You can’t get harmony when everyone’s singing the same note. Harmony requires differences. The more notes, the more complex and beautiful the harmony. Let everyone sing their own song.

I’m glad you reacted to this one. It’s a song worth contemplating and their execution of it is amazing. I’m a worried about what’s happening in my country Sweden but more so the US. It’s scary how intolerant people are. I don’t understand why people want to limit other people’s choices just because it doesn’t agree with them. I think we should live and let live. ❤ I think it’s awesome that kids today are more able to choose who they want to be. I didn’t even know I could choose when I was young. ❤

Being transgender or lesbian, gay, bisexual or straight or whatever sexualty is NO CHOICE, just like being black or white, people are born just how they are. And I like that the world is getting more and more open to diversity. ❤️ 🏳️‍🌈 🏳️‍⚧️ ❤️

    • @AnnikaRamhqvist
      @AnnikaRamhqvist ปีที่แล้ว +1

@@schuhschrank947 thank you for your clarification. I did not mean that one chooses one’s sexuality or gender identity what I meant was that today it’s more possible to choose to be true to one self and not need to hide. I realize this is more true here in Sweden compared to the US where it’s going backwards.
If I was growing up today with the knowledge I have now I would have lived a different life.

This version of Imagine always makes me cry. I think the message they were trying to convey was that everyone is different but we share similarities and in the end we are all human beings. The timing of the song was important too.
    Great reaction as usual!!

I just love this arrangement to Imagine. That wall of sound near the end then Kevin's sweet solo...STILL gives me chills, & I've heard it hundreds of times.
No, pentaholics are not gonna be saying mean stuff to ya! We R a very positive community & always are supportive of each other & the reactors who do Ptx. Thanks for this reaction & so glad you enjoyed it! I'm going to bed now as it's going on 4am here in NC. So drink a shot for me & have a great rest of ur evening!

      Little correction
It's Seasons Of Love. And they've done My Favorite Things from the musical Sound Of Music (the video is kind of a mixture between Steampunk and the Alice in Wonderland Teeparty, little bit crazy but so good)

I completely agree with you as far as the whole world needs to come together as one. We need to start with OUR country coming together first, our country is weak right now due to this great divide with "the right" and "the left". I remember back right after 9/11 happened, our country and all Americans came together as one in our love for each other and our country. Out of that nightmare came unity and togetherness among all Americans which was a beautiful thing. How do we get back to a place like that? Our country is much weaker and more vulnerable due to being so divided and it is heartbreaking to be honest. I have no idea what it will take to reunite all of us but I pray that it happens soon. There is already so much hate and judgement in this world, I wish our country was a perfect example of compassion and respect for all mankind rather than part of the problem. Great reaction, glad that you got their message in this one.

Yeah, It's going to get worse because most of the people on this dreadful planet doesn't know how to be damn human being anymore or so forget that we're all the same species living on same planet. Trust me, we're all one way or another if fear, hate, other types of xenophobia continues on, it will bring on our own extinction. Common sense prevails...must love one another. Peace ✌

We Are Ninjas is a super fun PTX original, done because all the members grew up watching TMNT cartoon & talk about the upcoming movie excited them. They went all out & filmed at Universal Studios with lots of extras & all. Check it out when you're in the mood for a "just for fun" song! (Too bad the live-action movie wasn't nearly as good as it should've been.)

Glad you liked this one. Did you notice that the cards they passed to each other showed what they had in common before they flipped them over to show how they were different e.g. Mitch and Scott are both gay, Kevin and Kirstie are both Christian etc. Did you love the 'PTX 'Wall of Sound' when Kirst turned her card to 'woman'? Also, it's lovely that you read out some of the comments. Just to let you know, though, if you read any of mine out again, my surname is pronounced with the 'Gup' part sounding like 'book' rather than 'Goop'. Not a big deal though!

I would love to hear them do Jesus Christ Superstar. They can sing anything.
Imagine by Pentatonix may be one of the most important videos of this century. This group took a classic, timeless song of tolerance and peace and modernized it as only they can. They are a perfect example of what respect and love can be like. Five people with differences in race, religion, gender, and sexuality can do beautiful things when they work together. I cried when I saw and heard this the first time. I still usually tear up when they go into Wall of Sound mode. Pentaholics are the ones who need to see this the least.

Forgive me for writing out of place.
Do you know the Japanese all-female heavy metal band LOVEBITES?
Metal Hammer Golden Gods Awards 2018 - Best New Band
On 17 August 2021, LOVEBITES took an extended break after their leader, bassist Miho, left the group.
The remaining girls organised an audition for a new bassist from the public from all over the world and recruited a new bassist named Fami.
"JUDGEMENT DAY" is the first song from the long rest.
"JUDGEMENT DAY" proves that LOVEBITES is back in full force and justifies the adoption of Fami.
You will be amazed by new bassist Fami's slapping and fast finger picking. If you watch "Alien Alien" on her TH-cam channel, which was uploaded 4 years ago with 10,490,000 listens on her content, you will be amazed at her world-class slapping skills.
With the addition of new bassist Fami, the trio Harmony Shredder has become a reality.
Fami is a five-string bassist who can dance, sing, and play, and boasts 670,000 TH-cam subscribers.
Fami is 20 years old with a cute smile.
Fami will turn 21 on 1 June 2023.

Not sure of your interpretation of this song and video. Showing that they are individuals is natural. We are all individuals. Regardless if we work together or not. Regardless if we are kind or mean to each other. Yes, coming together at the end to proclaim that people, regardless of their individuality are all "Human" ......makes a specific point. But if we are not individuals first.... coming together has no significance. Thanks for all your reactions. You are insightful and fun.

I still hold out a tiny bit of hope that enough people in this troubled world will pull us out of the morass of hate and apathy and we'll evolve a bit more instead of regressing into a polarized mess. Frankly...there may not be a choice. With the consequences of ignoring climate change becoming apparent now, because we spent the last 50 years arguing about it instead of working on viable and immediate solutions, we and our children and grandchildren will have no choice but to suffer the consequences of those decades of denial and apathy.
    Sorry...that was such a depressing comment..I think it's past my bedtime. G'night.

There was Zero reaction on your part while listening to PTXs performance of this iconic song, or the significance of their personal message behind the original.
